So where do you think they went wrong with this plan? I can see spending a day with them for $500 if I had it, I guess, why do you think they didn't make more? I've done kick starters for video games, and one for a film of an underwater forest, but I've never funded something that seemed as nebulous or needlessly expensive as this. Many of the kick starter pages I've read are very clear about what they will do if they reach different totals, like what extras they will include in a game if they go over the bare minimum.

I would love your thoughts on what he might have done. My main idea is that he should have not had the expense of flying and housing a team from Australia when he could easily have found a team in Memphis. Obviously, he raised a substantial amount, much more than I thought he would. I'm surprised he can't make some kind of on line web video for $20,000 or so plus him paying the expenses of himself and Ben.
I do think the expense of using an Aussie crew is an unnecessary one but one thing I've learned from living here is that Aussies are ultra sensitive about work being given to those other than Aussies. And then of course it'd blow out the whole spend a day with them editing in the studio because really, how many Americans would pay the $500 to do it and then get themselves to Nashville?

The only thing I see them going wrong on was how long they waited but because I have no clue what restrictions were placed on them with their Ch 9 commitments that they both had or even how long it would've taken say Ben to agree to be involved if we're to believe his schtick, I can't even say honestly that they went wrong here. I'm actually a bit shocked they managed to raise $20k.

Think about the '12 HMs and where they were a year later. I don't want to say celebrity wise or relevancy or whatever - especially as some post here - but maybe say 'in the mix'. People like Sharon, Jazz and even Nathan who was in the house for like two days have even parlayed their BB stints into ambassadorships for charities, the Sugar Sisters have a thriving business, Tim is a regular Ch 9 dude, Ben, Tahan, Jade, Tully, Drew, Ed, Mikkayla, Heidi are all either working in the media or are featured in it regularly. Yet from the '12 HMs... a year after they left BB and a new season started. Ben, Layla, Michael and...

The fact that these two have managed to raise $20k a year after they were out is a pretty big win and I'm not saying that as a Tim fan. I truly thought they'd stagnate around $6k after the Today Show appearance. They've been off the show for a year and new HMs are on so to me they've done quite well. No one's sick, everyone knows Tim won $250k yet people felt it worth it enough a year later to still donate $20k to this web series. A bit surprising to be honest.

I would think they could edit in Australia even if they filmed in the U.S. I think it's a fair point that Australians want to hire Australians for work. I thought they could split the work between the U.S. and Australia somehow, but maybe Aussies wouldn't donate.

I'm just curious about this project because I wanted it to succeed, and they have done well. My first thought when I saw the price was that they were asking for too much for what they were planning to deliver. But I didn't think about needing to use Aussie labor. It's interesting because tons of people have very successful YouTube channels without needing an expensive film crew.

Someone in this thread posted ways they could have used an Australian crew for less, with cheap airfare and hotels and rental cars.

Maybe part of the problem was not more clearly breaking down the cost? It kind of sounded like a paid vacation instead of a working trip.

It's interesting because I feel there was a way they could have got this project funded, but I know nothing about what it costs to do this kind of project.
I'm sure they will still have a great trip and will post some photos and videos.

EVICTED: Wagga's Big Brother house mate Sandra Nixon is excited to be living in the real world again. Picture: Michael Frogley

SHE'S been evicted from the house and is back on the street.

Yesterday Wagga's ousted Big Brother house mate, Sandra Nixon, glowed with excitement.

After living in artificial conditions for more than eight weeks, she was thrilled to be back in Wagga and in the real world.

"It was so tough," Sandra said of her time in the house.

"You can't sing commercial music, you can't sleep all day because they wake you up with chainsaws and you live on rice and beans," she said.

Sandra was shocked at the tough rules housemates had to abide by.

They are not allowed to read books, newspapers or have any outside contact.

"We didn't even know what time it was," she said.

Sandra described herself as naive when she entered the house.

"I reacted in ways I didn't expect," she said.

The young star Kooringal softball player was learning to deal with the attention.

She described coming back to Wagga was a relief.

"I feel like I should be talking about softball."

Sandra has no regrets from the show, particularly treasuring her friendship with fellow evictee Sam.

"Sam's friendship is the best thing to come out of the house," she said.

Sandra is looking forward to catching up with housemates in a more natural environment.

"It will be great to just go to the pub," she said.

Sandra said she planed to stay at Bonds and hopes to move to Sydney in the future.

"I'm looking forward to good coffee, seeing friends and family and being able to talk to people that I know well," she said.

As for who will win the show, Sandra is pretty sure she has it figured out.

"I think Skye, Ryan or Dave," she said.

Typical!
Blames the rice and beans for her incessant & .unladylike continual farting.

I thought about the YouTube channels without a film crew too but I think their goal is to turn this into something bigger and so they wanted to be professional from the start. If not they could've just brought an iphone or flip video recorder and been done with it. With the YT vids though, even with the star vids, normally they're still and in one location so they use a webcam or a tripod. But these guys need at a minimum a third person to record it and it seems they're after decent quality unless they constantly are trying to record themselves which won't work.

I think it was @TullyLovesDrew who posted prices but I don't think it's as simple as that. Firstly you want someone who is not only professional but is available to you to fix up stuff and add content in a timely fashion. I work for a company based in LA (why I'm often up late Aussie time) so US crew wouldn't work beyond everything else but because of the time difference and the delay in communication constantly. Then it's all just a guesstimate. If they wanted to just hire a friend and pay for them to film them with no skills but knew how to hold an iphone or flip cam then it'd be merely the cost of a plane ticket. But if you want to make something of it and use it as a launching pad, you want it done right and professionally. I'd rather not do something at all than do it half assed. These guys aren't the type to stay in the Ritz or eat at Nobu every night as it is so there's no way they'd want their crew to. I just think they want to do a pro job and this is/was a decent selection for them.

I really want to send them a message, that looking at their website and all those stretched pics of them is so off putting. Hurts my eyes, surely they must realise that it looks terrible

Can someone explain how they made the target? Yesterday they were $20k short, today they've made the target with no large increase in donator numbers and no $1000+ donators. It doesn't make sense.

Could Tim potentially add to it without it changing the numbers? That's the only thing I can think of.
