Isn't she adorable?

I think I missed how this argument arose, but I wish people didn't feel the need to use someone's age (or worse their perceived age-bracket) as a way of devaluing or explaining their stance. What I've learnt is that typically ignorance towards these sort of things can present in the not so young even more so than in the young. I'm in my early twenties myself (I don't think that's that young but apparently that puts me into a particular bracket that I wasn't aware of) but I don't think age should be a factor in this. I've often found that older individuals tend to have a more ignorant attitude towards the implications of accusing someone of being homosexual, or worse, implying that's something that should be held against them.

For the record, I don't think TullyLovesDrew was insinuating in this instance that Ed was gay because he hates him or that he should cop abuse for it. The way I read the exchange this all arose because people on social media were joking that Ed was gay based on what he was wearing in an Instagram pic and seeing him cop that is what TullyLovesDrew was enjoying. I personally don't agree with that but I don't think he himself was labelling Ed as gay in this instance or saying that there was anything wrong it anyway.

I joined because it seemed a lot nicer than Facebook or twitter. So being something of an elitist (I'm sure you never guessed), I'd like to think we're a bit better than other social media sites. We like clever insults as against cheap shots.

This forum has to be one of the most well behaved ones I have come across in a while, I'm not sure if anyone here is familiar with SurvivorSucks,I usually read through that site every now and then or during the US BB season I would read their BB section and if you compare this forum to that one it is like night and day.

Is Tim referring to the view of the coast or the blonde babe in the pool with him?!! BTW, that pool is scaring me... Eeeekkk!

EDIT: is that Bree Amer in the pool?

Thank you for this. I'm not sure what 'not that young' is. I would have guessed you were in your late teens or early twenties. I'm not sure how old or young that is to you.
I just want to try one last time, in the spirit of the goodwill you have shown. I'm sure you are aware that the suicide rates for gay teens is far higher than for their straight counterparts. Sometimes it's not what we say or do, but what we passively condone. Every time you snicker about Ed's discomfort at being perceived as gay, you are condoning the behaviour that makes this an insult. I know this is just a fun gossipy forum, but lots of people who don't post here read it. I joined because it seemed a lot nicer than Facebook or twitter. To bring this back to Big Brother…OMG! I'm sure you're well aware that Drew's my favourite. His looks and intelligence were great starting points, but for me, the highlight of the show was his friendship with Ben, who says quite openly that Drew was also his favourite. By sharing a bed with Ben in the Presidential Suite, through the laughs and kisses and hugs, Drew showed through his actions that being gay isn't an issue. Here's one of the 'cool kids' patently not caring about the sexuality of a friend. That matters a lot. Some kid watching BB took heart from that, and another one thought he needed to stop being so uptight about appearing to like that gay kid in his class. As far as I'm concerned that made Drew a standout guy.
Drew is my favorite too (he is the type of person I like to have as friends), I enjoyed his interactions with Ben as well. I really don't spend much time thinking about what each different group might think about what I say, I try not to go way over any lines but when I say something about Ed (whom I clearly don't like) I say it as it relates to him. I don't like what Ed did to jade, how he judged Boog, Tim, and Drew and how he thinks he is entitled to things. I also don't like his lack of straight-forwardness. I prefer clever insults to cheap shots however if someone cheap shots me I will return the favor. I assume you don't like Ed either because he was the most homophobic in the house (remember when they played spin the bottle and he was supposed to kiss Ben). Anyhow what I said was directed squarely at Ed, I guess I can see where you are coming from with the unintended messages but people that have read my posts probably understand by now that I just don't like Ed and that is where I was going with that. As for my age I could have kids that old, my kids aren't quite that old but I could have some that old (hope I don't get an unexpected knock on the door).

I don't think age matters either. As for the discussion regarding Ed, I don't particularly care who first decided calling Ed gay was an insult and a good thing. It's not okay but I think TullyLovesDrew and I have covered that.

I once accidentally told a gay guy that the new XboX controller was gay (stupid). We were fairly good friends (through work) and it brushed off as it should have been. My age group tends to use gay to mean stupid not homosexual so it was an honest mistake.

I am not of Anglo Saxon decent and when people use my ancestry as a derogatory term it washes off me as I am proud of my heritage and understanding of their ignorance.

If someone is so anti homosexual they feel the need use "gay" as an insult (I'm not referring to you TullyLovesDrew) it's their problem not the person whom they are insulting. I understand your frustration but take it from a minority it's going on every second of every day and if you take each derogatory comment to heart you are going to lead a very hateful and hurtful life.

Thank you for the last sentence. I'm chortling. I also know why you said what you did, and 'knowing' you here, I realise that you wouldn't go there with anyone but Ed. :) I think being politically correct can be tiresome too, but I'm hyper-sensitive to things that I think might make someone feel bad about the things within themselves they can't change, like their gender, sexuality and race.
As for liking/disliking Ed. I didn't like his behaviour during Spin the Bottle. I often hated Tully's behaviour in the house but I still like her. As for Boogs peeing on the peas, I was shocked, but after Drew I liked her best. :)

That is a healthy outlook, people have to take into account the context of what a person is saying before they jump to a conclusion that the person was intentionally being ageist, sexist, homophobic, racist ..etc ....

Again though I don't think TullyLovesDrew is saying that he's happy that Ed is copping it because people think he's gay...just happy that he's copping it in general. I don't like seeing any of the HMs cop it from idiots on social media, but I don't think this is really a sexual preference/homophobic issue either.

For me personally I don't even comfortable sending praise to Drew for being so "normal" with Ben because to me at least the way Drew acted with Ben is exactly how anyone should act. Actually I cannot think of one HM that treated Ben any differently just because he's gay (although watching Ed have such an issue kissing him did make me uncomfortable - he was the only one though).

That's just the way I see it though.

Nothing says "Hey! It's Summer! I'm going to prove that point by taking a selfie with a summer fruit"...like a watermelon wedge. #summer #nyd #pearlbeach

Ed was not the only person who had an issue with kissing Ben, at the start of the season Matt freaked out and would not fake kiss Ben through the fence that divided the halfway house. Although Matt and Caleb did kiss during that task with the floating balls.

maybe they made resolutions ???? ....................Nah

There is actually one lovely (drunken) scene after Matt, Ed, Drew and ??? 'washing machined' Ben. After it all three happily kiss ben so I'm glad it was shown. Matt's super conservative, so I was actually pleasantly surprised when he talked about how he would support his children if they were gay. Not that he could have done much else, but he was believable to me. I suspect BBAU screens its members' prejudices anyway.

I actually hadn't remembered that with Matt (thanks for reminding me!), but still in general I don't think many of the other HMs treated Ben any differently just because he was gay. Matt was also very close with Tully for a long time so I don't think for a second he's in anyway homophobic. I think in general they were a batch of really good eggs this year. They all have their downfalls and moments (I couldn't stand Heidi nor Jazz personally) but I think in general they're a good bunch (and I was saying that even when 10 of them took $500 that was intended for charity lol).

prufrock and Gemini I agree this group of HM were pretty liberal (?) in their beliefs and how they see the world. I don't think any of the HMs were homophobes. I honestly think that channel Nine want HMs that are pretty likeable and what is not more likable to the young audience than people who believe all men/women are created equal. Which to me is how all the HMs acted during the season.
