My mum and dad are now officially old (80+). Every second week my father had to go away from home to work, sometimes in Oz and sometimes overseas. I think it made their relationship stronger. they still hold hands walking down the street etc.

i liked that write-up :) so there were mistakes, but her name is spelt correctly, one-up

This reminds me of an older couple in our building in New York. I used to see them shuffling through the lobby on their way in or out, arm in arm, almost seeming to hold each other up. If that's not what it's all about, then I don't know what is.

I agree. The scary bit now is that they both want to die first. I know that sounds maudlin but it is mostly touching. My dad still reckons Mum is hottest thing on two legs ;)
