sparrow it doesn't have to be a tim appreciation thread for you or me to appreciate his generous offer. It is current housemate news and he did a great thing and deserves to be praised.

appreciation threads are weird in my view....i have occasionally participated but just general conversation about all housemates and opinions on what they are doing/have done is always interesting and belongs here....

i don't remember you ever being disrespectful to anyone.

Keep expressing your feelings here about what ever you want....i have found that even if i completely disagree with someone and even argue with them, we all have cool heads at the end of the day and can get along. I've laughed with people even though we totally disagree on certain things...

i'm sure most people here don't take offense to differing opinions, we love it :D and still end up in group hugs when the news changes and we jump onto another debate

Thank you Jo-bot! Really appreciate that.

I was just so proud of Tim and what he did and to come home to the posts, love the positive ones, but the others were upsetting. I think that just shows what a wonderful season of BBAU this was, that this many days later so many of us are still in the forum enjoying updates about our favorites.

Some of the housemates may not have even heard about this yet, and I have a feeling that by the end everyone will have chosen their charity and things will turn out rosy. No one is being shamed, yet. :) Happy that Tahan tweeted the reason she only donated 100 was that she was giving the rest to another charity.. If the others feel at all shamed they can indicate the same thing that they want to personally give it away. Easy peasy

This is actually a really valid and touchy point...some of the HM's might even have family members or friends who are in dire need of a financial boost at this time of the year and perhaps those HM's don't want to embarrass them by publicly announcing their names. The thing is, how will they be judged by the public if they choose to go down this road? Look at how Tahan has been judged already.

I'm glad Tim did it like this. Some of the HMs tried to declare "war" on him bahahahaha, said horrific things and wouldn't piss on Tim if he were on fire. And yet now they're being given the opportunity to give $500 to charity on their behalf or keep money for themselves. If any of the HMs need that cash desperately, well I'm sorry but I don't feel one ounce of pity for them. Some of them were only in the house for a short period of time and they still got paid $500 a week until their BB commitments stopped... if they haven't managed to sort their finances out by now then I suspect they weren't sorted before BB and they never will be. Luckily for them though, they live in a generous country that will give them welfare payments until they get back on their feet - and won't stop those payments even if they spend some of that money on dinners out and boozing and then posting pics of that decadence on social media.

No one's forcing them to get involved with Tim's offer. It'll be interesting to see which of the HMs will be spending a part of their Xmas Day doing something for charity as Tim is and which ones don't. That is much more important to me than whether or not someone takes $500 for themselves when let's face it: Not a single one of them should need that money.

$500 a week doesn't sound like a lot. So, out of interest, what is the minimum wage in Australia and the relevant state?

yep as much as i like to comment here on the updates etc. i still think twitter was the stupidest invention ever. It has given voice to people that should really keep their opinions to themselves. So what if you don't agree with what someone does, do what we have done for the last millions of years and bitch anonymously behind their back on a forum....directly contacting someone with your disapproval and scorn and uneducated opinions is a bit rich. No one can please every one. Have a bitch to your mates (even if it's just cyber world) and move on. Contacting strangers directly to tell them how they should be living their lives is twilight zone material.

The connection between Tim and the many housemates since leaving the house is obviously strained compared to other housemates that have remained very close friends.

Sorry, but you're not a party to the details of their friendship so it would seem your dislike of Tim is clouding your opinion.

Yes, Tim is still friends with the people he was friends with in the house, but I don't believe it is as close as what it used to be. I think they now see him for the person he is.

Tim is friends with the people he likes. He keeps in contact through social media and in private, and that's really all you can say about it.

you are welcome dear

it's not a lot, but considering people chose to leave their employment to enter the bb house and are reaping many rewards in the process it is not so bad. At least they are getting paid. It's around about the same amount a single mother may receive and be expected to live on (in my case i was married and got out of a sick relationship and need to support 3 young kids). It's not a lot. But for single kids with no mortgage or care in the world it is quite generous, especially since they have gained freebies etc.

I see all these different sources of social media as a double edged sword for those who choose to live their lives openly on them - especially people in the public eye. For some, it's great for publicity, for others it could just as easily and quickly be their demise.

no he is an arsehole for making Ben subject to this scrutiny because Tim wanted to play a game
maybe Ben needs the money, maybe Ben didn't hear about it, maybe Ben is cheap, doesn't matter now because either way he will be scrutinized because Tim wanted to play this game

Our minimum wage -

Currently the full-time minimum wage is $16.37 per hour or $622.20 per week. This means that most employees in the national system shouldn't get less than this.

I think the HMs get a that now. That is what you get a fortnight on basic welfare here.

Our basic wage is quite high, in comparison with many countries, we don't make people ask for tips to make up a wage they can live from.
That seems rude to me, like making people beg for a living.

And Tim - it's nice giving away money when you have heaps, but that clip sucks.

jo-bot says you can't make an excuse for Ben taking it for any reason because she reckons that's not what it is supposed to be for even though Tim said it was HM's choice
