I don't think Tully and Drews relationship is all that different to many others I've known, particularly in that age bracket. They date split then get back together after a while hopefully having worked out the issue otherwise they just start going around in circles.
Tully did say in the artical about the break up it might not be forever they may work out, words to that effect.

I do wonder if the issue was/is where they should live, both admitted they are very clingy in relationships and like to be around that person 24/7 living in seperate states doesn't allow that living situation and the security they feel within that set up. Maybe Tullys new love for Melbourne has helped?
Or maybe the really are just best mates now, whatever it is they have both had massive smiles these last few days.

Drew was starting his clothing line
Tully is impulsive
FWB sometimes can be cool
Couples break up and decide to get back together
They might have gotten sick of the "are you still together ? " questions
Tully may have realized that there is more of a future with Drew than there is getting drunk every day
