Politics of Estelle and Bradley

silkworm

can o' (silk)worms
In this video (at 2:55), Estelle reveals her politics to Ray and Ryan. She says that Bradley is right-wing, even more than she herself is. One has to wonder what she means by "right-wing."

I presume from this that she feels she can reveal this to Ray and Ryan because she feels they hold similar political beliefs to her; which makes me wonder - are there any HMs who hold left-wing views?

What does this say about how BB selects the HMs?

jesus_christ - In what sense?

up_all_night - Who made this promise?

Sorceress - Obviously Estelle is talking about Australia.

Thats odd, because by what she states she does like, she seems to be left-winged - tbh just more whimsical fuckery.

Batman providing law and order to the poor, a rich man keeping the weak poor people down.

I wouldn't take that to mean she's right-wing, a left-wing person could say what she said. But that's the sort of stuff we want to see, I want to know who the housemates are, what they believe in, not just how they react to tasks or who's hooking up with who. That's what's been missing from the last few series.

pecan - She definitely makes out that she is right-wing. She says that Brad is slightly more right-wing than herself. But there are no clues as to what she actually means, though Ray and Ryan seem to indicate they understand what she means. There has been a fair bit of politics discussed in the house, and we are just not getting to hear it.

Batman loves to keep order, even if it means the poor have to suffer. Trust me on this, I'm Jesus.

Ryan: But I also, I, I think I also, you know, agree with what Brad says too, Bradley.
Estelle: To a degree, yes. He's a little more, um, a little more right than I am, like, as in right-wing.
Ray: Yeah, right-wing, yeah.

That doesn't necessarily mean that she's right-wing. She could be moderately right, centrist, she could be left, just that Bradley's further to the right.

YES, that's exactly what I have always thought

One of the best/interesting moments in Australian Big Brother history was the Merlin and Paul argument in BB4 to show two people with differing points of view and passion of beliefs about citizenship and politics, Big Brother since then has gone down the faux relationship route, noone years later talks about who kissed who in a tipsy game of truth or dare, but most remember that confrontation, why has Big Brother tried to continue this theme? why not have people who have conviction and will passionately debate them? Sure this year may have that, but we dont know as it is not shown, yes a bit of fun is needed, but why promote the show as something different and give us the same shit as previous season which caused its downfall? I don't understand it, if it comes back next year Alex I beg of you, put people in who have different views on the world, a broader range of housemates and ages, lets have some discussions not hours of two bored 20somethings kissing to pass the time

Yup. Hitler was a raving totalitarian minded left-urd who merely happened to be to the political "right" of Stalin's even moreso raving totalitarian minded left-urdianism.

Left-urds typically claim Hitler to be "right wing" because they don't want to admit they are of the same ideology and the atrocities it typically leads to if given the opportunity.

The reality is that he was a left-urd, just like they are and just like Fabian Socialist Gillard is.

Monsters all, though all not necessarily (and thankfully) allowed to flourish.

Anyhoo, since we've now got a political thread, must be time to trot out the old "political compass" test that can be found here: http://www.politicalcompass.org/test

It reveals me, a "conservative", coalition / small government / libertarianism supporter, to be about as politically central as one can get.

I suspect it will reveal many of you to be raving totalitarian minded left-urdians though. :D

In the above graph, being in the green is something to be ashamed of AFAIC.

This is something I have been trying to work out, for politics is what will divide people, but some people are sophisticated enough to manage to agree to differ - not typical traits of any of this lot
I know I find it difficult to associate with right wingers.

I would have pegged Estelle as a leftie, but her besties seem like the right types, Ray/George/Ryan/Brad likely conservatives.
Zoe=conservative
Ben=Green, what other party is there for a gay man?
Stacey=Green because it's hip, or sex party
Josh=swing voter
The rest aren't likely to even vote
Michael = what do reckon??? Shame we never get to hear discussions. He likely is swing voter/greenie, would have critical analysis of both major parties he would pontificate on.

Come to think of it, Estelle has a government job likely employed when libs in, studying part-time probably a work scheme .

But - we must note, they could have been talking about anything. Maybe they have right views on abortion or some other issue, but not right in general,,,still brad is definitely a right winger

Wow. What a stupid (and hate-filled) statement. Anyone with half a brain knows Nazism was an extreme right-wing movement.

Anyway, back to BB.

I've read on this forum that Estelle annoyed the HMs by constantly ranting about the carbon tax/price, but I have not seen any evidence to support this assertion. Can anybody verify this observation about Estelle? If it is true that she is preoccupied with the carbon tax/price, then it would explain her politics.

The 4 choices make it hard. For me there had to be an option of "don't give a shit" for many of those.

But I got essentially 0 both directions. 0.02 and -0.12

Not that you've done this deliberately, but please don't assume just because someone's gay that they're going to be automatically far left.
I'm more left than right but I have a few conservative views and a fair few of my guy friends who are gay have very conservative views.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think it's something to be ashamed of?

(full disclosure, I was smack-bang in the middle of the green square haha)
