Peter Abbott on Reality Check

What's best for the sake of the format of Big Brother is for this to be the last season this year for a year or two.

It's worth having a few years off if it means that it would go back to Channel 10 and Big Brother can go back to it's roots. Get new executive producers who don't feel need to make someone win the show because they want an "amazing" proposal at the end. Peter Abbott should be hired at least part-time or in a very small role to watch over the production and make sure none of this manipulation and gimmick stunts crap happen again. Peter should come back for the sake of all Big Brother fans.

To think Channel 10 might have had BB in 2012 but Channel 9 were greedy and picked up the format to basically ruin it.

We definitely need the show to go back to Channel 10 with new executive producers who are true BB purists. And absolutely do not think it's ok to rig the results for ratings. Stick twelve people in a house and watch them interact. Yes you can have twists but the fascinating concept of Big Brother is watching the housemates who they are and how they interact with one another. *Gasp* Is that too boring Alex????

Brilliant quote Gretel said about the "new" Big Brother in 2012:

"I think there is a certain level of TV exec that actually thinks the audience is mindless," "I think there is a lack of respect for our population as a whole."

Quoted because of perfection. Also, that quote by Gretel.

Oh, at least it's on. Stunts and all. Honestly, if I could sit through Surly, I can sit through anything. It would be great if it went back to Ten next year, so they could fuck it up in a new and different way, though.

This ep of Reality Check with Peter Abbott is repeating on ABC1, if they still call it that, tonight at 10.16. (10.16!)

I also found it interesting they tell people to blame editing.

He is right about people waiting for the next big thing and not natural interaction. However I would say this year when they aren't focussed on games and what ever. We actually have got a lot of people interacting and drama from that.

Oh, at least it's on. Stunts and all.

But is it worth it? We are just settling for this. I much rather it off and come back with proper Big Brother in a couple of years (2016 at the earliest is most likely if picked up by another TV channel) instead of putting up with this pale version.

It really upsets me that Peter's obvious wisdom when it comes to Big Brother (and reality TV in general) goes completely ignored by the current producers. I definitely feel like it's an ego thing on Alex's part. If I were in his position, I would be consulting with people with experience and intelligence, such as Peter. I mean, it'd be my job to put on the best show possible, and I would be doing as much research as I could. That's what I'd be getting paid for!

(Although I also feel like Channel 9 are too... involved with the show, which is getting in the way a lot of the time)

Very interesting.... Luv it how Peter said if the public/crowd reacts adversely just blame it on the edit, that's what the pysch & producers tell the HM to say... Didn't work for Michael in 2006, when he claimed the edit - Gretel tore strips off him lolz...

Great producer though...

I’m really enjoying this show, and thought the recent episode was great. Not only for Peter (that goes without saying) but I also loved Poh’s reactions – especially to the Survivor production insights lol – and Dicko talking about Australian Idol. His jealousy of the ‘Touchdown’ catchphrase was hilarious.

I remember watching a few weeks back, and Marion was on the panel saying something along the lines of reality TV being at its best when it’s “the party you want to be at.” I think that rings true for me for this season of BB (so far). Not a huge fan of the drama and conflict, but am hopeful it will improve…:)

I hear what you are saying @Lucas but I worry that if it was cancelled it would never be picked up again by anyone. So, I guess I'm admitting I prefer bad BB to no BB.

Someone should tweet Alex:
"Hey check out this! Gives a great definition of what BB is NOT supposed to be and how to stay true to the format by the one and only Peter Abbott (Best EP evah) xx"

+1 to everything in this thread.

Just watched the segment and I YEARN for the days he ran the show. And I also feel bad because Peter was the first guy to cop the full wrath of BBB (especially in 2003 when we became a really big website) mostly undeservingly.

Then Kris Noble came along and we upped the ante considerably.

But anyways, I wonder how Alex feels being slammed against the rocks by the original Big Bro Aus.

I have front paged this:

But as much as I'd love to talk about how P.A. totally bags out the current season, it just doesn't go down with the majority of readers who would see "old guy you've never heard of thinks the show you love is crap".[DOUBLEPOST=1411053770][/DOUBLEPOST]But I'm curious to see how Alex M reacts to the pioneer of BBAU saying Alex's seasons are shit house. Tee hee.
