We get pruney appendages soaking in water - for better non slip grip

Believe it or not, but until now the scientific community was baffled
by exactly why our fingers wrinkle and pucker when soaked in water.

Now, lab tests have confirmed a theory that the phenomenon may
have an evolutionary function: to improve the grip on wet objects as water
can be channelled in a similar way to how treads in car tyres work.

It is often assumed that the wrinkling is the result of water saturating the skin.
In fact, it is the result of blood vessels constricting below the skin.

Volunteers were faster at picking up wet marbles with wrinkled fingers than with dry ones.

Tom Smulders, an evolutionary biologist and co-author of the paper,
said: ‘Wrinkled fingers could have helped our ancestors to gather food from wet vegetation or streams.’

I've got a theory, that one of the illuminati must be into superheroes, and sometime in the 90s he decided it would be cool if the world was really like it is in comics. Like Bonny Tyler, he needed a hero.

So, he commenced a 20 odd year programme of getting the field fertile. We have comics, but it needs to be more mainstream - Disney. We need Marvel comics to be going to a Disney audience. And legit films too. Dark Knight was so good that they killed Heath Ledger (little prick spoke out against the war anyway) to ensure its legend.

We need to appeal to all sorts of people. Golden boys. Misunderstood dark loners. Disenfranchised immigrants. Clever girls.

So, we get Hunger Games, in which the hero takes up bow and arrow against a corrupt Capital. New Star Wars - if you see a corrupt government it is your duty to rebel. Hyper normalization - BBC documentary about how we all know the system is broken and politicians are lying, and yet we do nothing. Why?

Then, we instill a supervillain in the White House. A proper supervillain. A guy with a tower in New York with his name on top, like Luthor. A guy obviously evil. A guy who is a reality show villain, who knows how to inspire opposition.

They want a hero to arise. They want to watch comic books in real life.

I was on Vikings in the end. Waayy better than Jamie Dornan who I had to flick :p. Ragnar landed in a pit of snakes.

Damn that was hard to watch, I had to flip away when they were torturing Ragnar
By Travis, so watchable, he has a few good movies coming out soon.
And may do a prequel to Sons of Anarchy.
Will miss him, :(
Laegather's story now.

It is sad about Ragnar. I've missed quite a few eps recently. Wondered if Travis (in part) was avoiding becoming type-cast. Also wondered the same for Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, actually.

Don't know much about Travis other that he's a country VIC boy, possibly with very good acting prospects ahead, and that I'd be happy to watch his movies!

Comic books were always a fertile field for movies. The problem was making them good. And say what you will about Disney, they know how to make good shit.

Travis was only cast to appear in the first series, and he was supposed to die and be gone.
He is so riveting & fantastic they had to keep him, and managed to persuade him to stay for 3 and a bit more series.
People don't seem to suffer from typcasting as much these days, better writing and better actors probably.....I mean Capaldi is in the Paddington movies, Travis has bout 4 movies to be released.
Look at Brian Cransten, he went from a silly Dad in the Middle, to his epic druggie role

LOL, that’s interesting, kxk… it sent me down a Travis Fimmel rabbit hole… He seems very laid back and down to earth in interviews.

I agree typecasting is possibly less of issue these days, but still a career risk for some… particularly if playing stand-out characters in career defining roles, well and for any length of time…. e.g. Jim-$1m-an-episode-Parsons. I think his 'believability' in non-Sheldon-type roles would be an issue for studios and the box office.

Sure, Travis isn’t in the same definitive league, but surely Ragnar in Vikings was a successful, break-through role. It seemed odd that it was discontinued, and interesting to find out more of the background as you mentioned. He’s no spring chicken and post modelling, has been chipping away at acting for a while. Following *incredibly thorough* investigations ;) his newest movies look like mix – Warcraft (action fantasy), Lean on Pete (drama) and Finding Steve McQueen (heist thriller).

I wonder if he'll become BIG? It also prompted me to think about Chris Hemsworth’s Hollywood rise, but that’s another story!

A hat is good protection from the sun. Which is good as the sun can be quite hot. Especially during the day time.
