Masterchef 2016

...she is isn't she?... it looks like (as Dennis said earlier) that there will be a running gag between her and the judges about talking all of the time... she seems to be one of their favourites so far... much like Rose last year... except in this case... Nidhi can definitely cook lol!... cheers.
Too true what you have said, Mr S. 👍

Being nice and personable isn't enough to get you over the line if you can't cook.

Billy is gorgeous and rather elegant, was last series really good?

I love sweet Theresa, and they all seem nice at this point. Magnetic Island guy - my cousin has been the doctor there for decades, hope they show more island stuff.
I dislike duck.

...I loved last years series and Billie so deserved to win it in my opinion kxk... and you're right... she is so gorgeous and elegant... at least we now know that her win didn't go to her head... that is so good to see... cheers.

Say what?🤨

Hahaha I love ricotta so that's why Trent's dish is my favourite so far. I love the combination he put on that dish.

Awe, it's ok I still like you (Ricotta hater) 😆

...lololol!... ya funny bugger!... (from the ricotta hater)...😄 cheers.

So upset with the bottom 3 I like all of them! I'm surprised really, I was willing to bet that they would each make it to top 10-12. I'm hoping Ashley goes over the other 2. I'm rather drawn to Charlie, he interests me and I think he's got potential to become a fan fave. And Theresa has top 10 written all over her! Will be interesting tomorrow!

... I just knew that Theresa was going to be in those three because she was about to break out into a sob while presenting her dish.... the poor girl... she knew that she had done bad even though her brother Jimmy did so great... cheers.

I think Theresa will stay around (we all know the brother-sister show down will happen) - not fussed on the other two. I hope they can prove me wrong tomorrow

...I so loved tonight's show and really can genuinely say that I don't dislike a single contestant so far!... and THAT is a first for me on ANY Reality show that I have ever watched so colour me impressed!... lol!... tomorrow for me is that it's a shame that anyone has to go home at all... as delcan just said... I think that Theresa will be sticking around too for the brother/sister showdown... and you are right too... she seems like she has 'top 10' written all over her... this loss tonight might be the shake-down that she needed to calm her down and get rid of her nerves... (well I hope so anyway)... I hope that she wins tomorrow too... cheers.

One thing I love about this show, especially after shows where there is some bitchiness and where the contestants judge each other, is that it's pretty much aways about the food. Yes there's always the life stories etc.. but the judges are the ones who decide about the food, there is no motivation for others to be catty. Everyone in general is usually supportive and happy for others. Even in the group challenges there has only been limited bitching, mostly it's encouraging. The judges are respected and treat the contestants with respect as well. I find I'm looking forward to each episode and I hope there's some great cooking!

...^^^^... I agree with absolutely everything in this post of yours Insomniac... (in fact... I wish I wrote it lol)... there is a 'comraderie' among the contestants at all times isn't there?... it's always so refreshing to watch after our stint with MKR... the shows are basically polar opposites in my opinion... great post!... cheers.

Does the music seem even more amped up this year? I know its usually on level 11 but I was just wondering.
I am awaiting a challenge where they use Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries a la Apocalypse Now.
"Todays challenge is a mystery box. Cook your signature breakfast meal in 30 minutes. Time starts now!"
Then Preston walks around bare chested (with cravat still on) stating..
5e431179a589a61f71f96f5c19552e5e.jpg

"I love the smell of pancakes in the morning."

The editing is quite off-putting. It's so easy to predict the bottom or top 3, or at least who is in contention, by how much facetime they get beforehand. As soon as Charlie and Ashley kept popping up every ten seconds it just seemed locked in. Same with Theresa, Jimmy and Miles. Maybe I'm over-analysing, but they just seem to be giving away too much. There were a bunch of them who haven't said a word and whose names haven't sunk in yet, and sure enough they were rushed through in a montage of contestants who wouldn't be in danger tonight.

I love Theresa, she's got to stay.

...hahahaha!... funny!... I touched on the loudness of the music in some earlier posts and agree with you... the music is way too loud for sure... it's ridiculous and yes... I believe that eventually they will play that music but I'm hoping to Hell that Matt doesn't turn up bare-chested... I would have to get my eyeballs taken out and get them scraped clean... lol!... so lets hope that doesn't happen eh?... cheers.

...yeah I agree... the editing is a dead give-away when they give some a large amount of airtime... they are letting simple things like that slip through and are pre-empting the results for sure... let's hope that they pick up on this a few shows in eh?... cheers.

But since we don't actually get to taste the food they can only justify the judge's decisions to us by telling us a story about how the cook is going. So they have to pre-empt the results enough so that we will accept them as fair when they come. At this stage of the comp they have too many people to tell everyone's story, so those in the middle tend to get the 'one-line summary' cut.

I recall last year there were a few early complaints about some people (Jessica was one as I recall) getting heaps of coverage and some near-zero. It'll probably be the same this year.

...yeah I see your point oddjob... if we had 'smellivision' we could at least be halfway there I guess eh?... lol!... as you say... we can only gauge how good they are by what is told to us... makes total sense... cheers.

...I may sound like an old sour egg here but granted... Billie won this last year... she's a really lovely and gracious winner... humble with it too but the way the contestants are showing their 'hero worship' towards her is quite cringey to me at least... I know why they show 'hero worship' to internationally acclaimed Chefs etc... that's understandable... they are true celebrities but to be overawed by Billie just because she was last years winner is a long stretch in my humble opinion... just saying... cheers.

I think the 'fandom' shown by the other contestants towards Billie is because it's a dream of theirs to be the winner of Masterchef. I guess whatever it is you are deeply passionate about, then someone who has walked the path that you want to walk down, will always be inspirational and probably she is a celebrity in their eyes. Or not even a celebrity... but someone to look up to. Someone to aspire to be like. If you are THAT passionate, even a so called ordinary person to others would be amazing to meet or be in the company of.

...I have to be honest... I love Billie but is she really qualified to be judging these dishes?... I understand that she is really only an apprentice Chef in Heston's restaurant so... yeah!... I feel that she's really only there as a token gesture to her winning it last year and that's it... but their futures are on the line here... is it really fair to the contestants?... (I must have my grumpy pants on tonight methinks!)... cheers.

Even as an apprentice at the Fat Duck would be an incredible learning experience. Did you happen to watch the 4 part series not long ago called Inside Hestons World? Man, everyone is majorly talented, even the wait staff are impeccable in every way. The head chef and maitre de run an extremely tight ship and you would have to have an extensive knowledge of how food works to even be asked to step in that kitchen. Of course though... it's just my thoughts. I personally think Billie had the qualifications to judge their dishes. In saying that though, the winner of the previous series always comes on the next series.

Agree completely. There's more than enough catty bitchy reality shows on tv. It's really nice to see people supporting each other mostly :)
