Masterchef 2016

I love earring guy's passion for cooking. That to me says that cooking is not just about cooking up some nosh and eating it, for him.

It's about putting your heart and soul into making something that makes you and the people who eat it, go WOW, nailed it.

Good on him for getting the "Death dish", right.👍

I also loved the fact he didn't throw him delaying a honeymoon story into the mix. I've never eaten risotto and it usually looks like ass to me but his looked sooooo good!![DOUBLEPOST=1462107343][/DOUBLEPOST]
Ha ha. The Greek grannies competing, for apron time and George.

Seriously.. I said to my partner OMG that is the Greek version of my Mum and he laughed and agreed. It was so bizarre haha.. she rocks!!

Loved every minute of the show...such a breath of "feel good" fresh air after MKR. Very slick show and no dull moments...loved all the contestants shown and the food was just WOW! I feel like I've "come home" seeing Gary, Matt and George...such an easy, pleasant style about them. :D
I also went through a period of jaded viewing for a while with MC but they've stepped up and made it special again, somehow. Hope they keep it up. Not one snotty, horrible contestant...I liked all of them! That's a first I think LOL

I muted the really long, intro and left the room till it was over because I hate that they show so much spoilerage.

The brother/sister combo is such an obvious setup. The producers absolutely want a head to head elimination between them. I predict it'll happen just on the halfway point of the series.

Also, how are these two "amateur" chefs? They've grown up in and their father owned a restaurant all their lives and it looks like the guy, Jimmy, stills works there (owner...?)

I haven't watch Masterchef since season 1, don't really enjoy MKR (only watched the instant restaurants cause nothing else was on and got bored)
Masterchef is so genuine, I'm still teary over the girl using the lemons from her grandfather's lemon tree. Really a breath of fresh air from all the trashy reality I watch

Enjoyed the first episode, but seeing so many specially filmed backstories before we've seen that person cook is a bit of a giveaway, as is the built up "rivalry" between the brother & sister. Then we have to endure the judges pretending they didn't know they were brother & sister. The other thing that doesn't make sense logistically is how or why they expect us to believe everything we saw tonight happened on one day, when they let it slip that each contestant had one hour to cook. That's an awfully long day.
A few other things don't add up, like the girl whose grandfather died "2 weeks ago" and so didn't know she was going on MasterChef. I'm not saying it wasn't a moving story, but it doesn't seem very plausible that she decided to apply and got through whatever selection process brought us to tonight's episode, in less than 2 weeks.

...I agree with all of this... I hope that this isn't going to be like this all the way through the series or I'll think that I'm watching MKR... I'm just going to put it down to bad editing and am giving them the benefit of the doubt on this episode... lol!... cheers.

just over 1 million viewers for masterchef launch last night. Pretty good considering the voice launched 30 minutes prior. And it came 1st in the 18-39 demo. Once time shifted viewers are added and the voice auditions are over ratings will be more consistent and higher.

I watched House Rules live, with The Voice and MasterChef later. I tend to watch the least important one while having tea and stuff, and save the better shows for later when I can watch properly.

...that's funny Dennis... on the 'Today' show on Channel 9 this morning they were screaming out to us that 'The Voice' was ... "AUSTRALIA'S MOST WATCHED SHOW LAST NIGHT WAS 'THE VOICE'!!!" as per usual the were blowing steam out of their arses and lying to us... thanks for letting us know that it was 'Masterchef' that came 1st... Channel 9 are such liars... I hate them... (most people probably already know that lol!)... cheers.

...you have there Meglos... what people would call... 'an organised system' lol!... I wish that I was a bit more like that... bravo!... cheers.

OMG and WTF was my bit of the Voice at 7pm, thanks 9, I didn't need much convincing Voice is shit and a sham - so ricky took a hike.

Adele should sue them for ghastly screeching, 2 awful screeching women big on diva-ing just showed us how good Adele is.
Meanwhile the back up boys I suppose they sang, I couldn't hear them.
Who knew what they were trying to sing...then i heard "Hello" OMG that is Adele they murdered.

Has anyone made a career from the Voice other than the judges? And the judges, well, the standard is bargain basement now.

Go Master Chef - the promos worked on me, hard to ignore all of those top world chefs heaping such effusive praise. And it didn't disappoint, great opening. Now I wonder why I stopped watching.

...if you stopped watching Masterchef and have now come back to the fold... welcome back kxk!... lol!... cheers.

I really enjoyed Masterchef so far. Not drawn out crap. It is cook, apron, move on :)

...what I liked about the boys sampling those dishes were their spontaneous reactions to the food dished up to them... they gave the wannabe Chefs instant feedback whereas on MKR Paleo Pete and Manure always do the 'taste the food... taste it again... look into each others eyes... taste it a third time... another glancing look into each others eyes and then comment' routine each and every time!... it is so rehearsed and orchestrated to build up the dramatic tension... it is so bloody pathetic!...

...these guys on Masterchef?... nothing rehearsed... instant feedback... brilliant!... cheers.

There were more than 2, @Witty Banter a few flew through in quickies I think, and I can recall at least 3.
Water buffalo girl; brother Jimmy's tuna; and country dude stew.

Desserts I wouldn't want to risk as you have to be more precise and really know your oven - but they are easier to impress with and make so pretty.

Now we get all those food shows on 33, and elsewhere - well Aus MC really is a class act in it's own right and in comparison.
The production is slick, editing is great, hosts are real and warm, contestants are like big kids and endearing & genuine.
A lot of the US shows are so clunky, cheesey, awkward and often silly or just mean. They feel dumbed down and odd. Haven't seen many UK shows other than celeb chefs cooking.

@Mr Stickyfingers I had previously liked watching MC, avidly 1st 3 seasons. Then just sometimes, I recall that season with lego hair Dani, and the one that cute guy Andy won. I still love Adam, Callum and Poh.
Then I just went off it, and most TV, I needed more peaceful pursuits. It felt annoying & noisy and about products. The Dali episode may have sunk it for me now I recall.
George can and did give me the shits. I do like the other 2.

I turned off after the season Andy won. That whole season didn't sit right with me - it seemed to be rigged. I think I only took that season off. It redeemed itself after that.
