Last movie you saw

You beat me to it, Molloch! I haven't been this excited since BB08 was confirmed. So the NZ Tolkein tourism, movie and special effects industry will survive more than 10 years! ( they wouldn't/couldn't do it anywhere else, could they?) I admit, I didn't think the trilogy would be as big for NZ as it has been.
And I am not sure about making the hobbit into two movies (although I think they could have made LOR into six). My guess is the first one will end with the Warg-fest, just after the discovery of the ring.

Beowulf

Loved it.

Took a few minutes to get used to the graphics at the start, but that is quickly forgotten. Engaging movie throughout, definately worth a look at the cinemas. Angelinas boobies oh my :eek::eek::D

8/10

It has sentimental value for both Alien and Predator fans.
I am an Alien fan,Alien>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Predator, even with his mask off.

Went into the movies today expecting to see Beowolf 3-D despite expecting to come out thinking it was only going to be a mildly enjoyable experience. Didn't even get that far, nope. Instead, I was somehow insanely lured into Bee Movie instead, despite being by myself. I had this inner compulsion to just go see it, though I'm a Pixar fan through and through, and will continue to shred on Dreamworks Animation films as long as it continues to churn out vomit inducing quality films. I also hate Jerry Seinfelds comedy, and I HATE his voice even more. I don't know what it was, but something made me walk into that movie theatre. Was it divine intervention? I don't know.

Now, I did enjoy the film. But it was only a GOOD movie for ME, just not GREAT. Jerry's voice was sooo grating to me throughout the movie, it really turned me off the main character; I just couldn't feel for him at all. But then again, there was a lot of voice acting in the film that rubbed me up the wrong way. What also got bad marks in my books was the production design. It looks great sometimes, and at others, it just makes the film unfocused. Any great animator will tell you that they've broken several animation school 101 rules with colour selection and character design in this movie, and it shows. All in all, it comes off bad, not good.

I could go on forever with some big no no, but don't get me wrong - I did enjoy the film, as I said, there were a couple of laugh out load moments and a great cover of The Beatles 'Here Comes the Sun' (which in turn prompted me to listen to the ever glorious original on my ipod as I left the cinema), but there was also a lot of cliched story elements, jokes, and acting. I give it 3/5. Only just worth my $10, but not a DVD purchase.

Thanks for that review Rabymon10: you probably just saved me $10.

I'm a Pixar purist. No motion capture rubbish for me. I was thinking about Bee Movie, but now I'll give it a miss. I loath big name stars voicing animated characters. It is more of a distraction than anything. If the illusion of a film is broken, your left sitting in a dark room with strangers, looking at your watch and wondering if you can make the next train home. Meh.

I saw a preview to Beowulf and was appalled. It is like big name celebrity voice syndrome taken to the ultimate step in that the on screen characters are almost directly modeled on the actors. It goes without saying that all the body movements are motion capture, but I think even the facial animations are motion capture. Of course they can't replicate true facial movement, so the characters have a grotesquely cardboard look. Most stars these days are fairly wooden, but this is ridiculous. It all begs the question: why bother animating the film at all?

I guess it appeals to teenage boys, especially with the inclusion of a scantily clad Angelina Jolie. At least with an animated Angelina, you don't have to see her tramp stamps.

Wasn't there supposed to be a new martial arts film using the CGI likeness of Bruce Lee?

It may be the way of the future, basically bringing stars back to life. But it may raise some ethical or legal questions.

In what sense would it be unethical? I mean it's only a likeness of the
person not a clone or a biological entity.

Not so much unethical but of course all the legal niceties would need to be observed ie in the intellectual property that a star has in relation to their own image.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see new Bruce Lee movies.
