I Love You Beth Cooper

Teen comedy about at graduation a nerd.. some unnaractivve guy with a big nose who looked about 30, declares to the school that he loves Beth Cooper (Hayden Panettiere) a cheerleadering popular girl. The film was just odd. Like it is in no form of reality, the nerdy guy isn't even the typical nerd but really a cool geek. He was a complete spaz of a nerd. Film sort of jumped around a bit from the type of film it wanted to be. It just wasn't what I thought it'd be. There's actually a bunch of laughs, but yeah it's nothing i'd recommend. Just doesn't quite work. How on earth it was Directed by Chris Columbus i have no idea. DTV quality for sure.


The Heartbreak Kid

It's one of those Ben Stiller movies that just seemed to have been made, I remember seeing an ad on TV for it then never heard about it again. Like Envy. It's by the Farrelly borthers, who did Dumb and Dumber, Something About Mary, Shallow Hal, Stuck on You.
Films about Ben Stiller playing a 40 year old guy who never got married and after attending the wedding of his ex he has marriage on his mind and meets a pretty nice girl. After a quick whirlwind romance he ties the knot with her and they go away on their honeymoon and the girl doesn't quite seem as wonderful any more. She's kind of crazy, annoying and all sorts of bad character traits. Of course while he's there he meets a girl played by Michelle Monaghan who is the girl he should have married. Sound generic romantic comedy right?
It starts off as one, kind of a bit bland, once they get on the honey mood the film ramps up to actually being quite funny and entertaining. Unfortunately what holds it back is, there's a bunch of stuff which is definitely too crude and rude for many. So while I may not be offended, I actually think holding back on this and trying to balance out the films tone, pace and jokes it could have been a film that people would know and like.
At first I was all, eh this is kind of dull but i ended enjoying most of the film enough that the plot holes and cliche stuff didn't bother me. Definitely a flawed film but you can do a lot worse if just looking for something funny and like Ben Stiller films.
 
Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

The classic Spielberg movie. Lots of zooming in on faces in wonder, the Family, the plot that is all emotion over logic. Steven S at his peak.

Scientists and technicians constantly jabbering away technical stuff that when you listen doesn't make any sense, but it's not supposed to. It's all mood.

But wow, it's still a very powerful film, and the effects still hold up very well.
 
Going the distance
That one with Drew Barrymore & Justin Long. Knew it was a rom com but didn't realize how filthy it would be! Even the grannies in front of us had a good laugh, thought they would have walked out lol 7/10

Was the mother in the end of the film the same one that lost her kid? I never got that and if many years had passed because she did not seem that much older?

I love the film but it could have been better had there been more on the characters who came back and them telling us what happened to them on the ship and all.
 
The idea was that the Prawns were alot like a Bee hive. A Queen or some such... a smarter Elite breed of aliens... and a whole lot of Drones, who are used to being told what to do.

For whatever reason, they lost their Elite. They died of a disease or just abandoned their Drones. And so you are left with this ship full of worker ants who don't know what to do with themselves.
 
They needed the stuff. That black goo that took 20 years to collect, they probably didn't know that earth didn't have that type of fuel. What else could they use, unleaded petrol? That little tube (minus the spill) was enough to power their whole way home - their capacity for substitutions was not there.

Not dumb. Poor choice of planet.
 
Man On Fire


Hasn't seen this, it was quite good. Better than I expected. Interesting story and well made.
 
Resident Evil 4 is in bloody 3D...... Now that never works for me and there is no information about a 2D version........ I hate Hollywood

I want to see this but it's only on at 10am weekends so it's hard to work out when i can make it.
 
Does anyone know if Resident Evil 4 will have 2D screenings?

Also when the hell is Salt coming on DVD even Amazon says it's still not available
 
I saw Dinner For Schmucks yesterday.
I'd read so-so reviews about it, but my abiding love of all things Steve Carell compelled me to go anyway, and I'm mighty glad it did. Thought it was hilarious. Loved seeing Jemaine Clement, David Walliams and Chris O'Dowd pop up amongst the cavalcade of characters.

The perfect LOL movie for a 'mental health day' off work.:D

I watched Repo Men on dvd last night, good movie but a bit too long and some of the gore could have been left out but jeez Forest Whittaker can act. He's fantastic.

It was quite funny and I enjoyed it. It was one of those films that was full of the more less conventional, quirky subtle jokes that are normally far and few between in these sort of comedies. It's not all this, but so much of it isn't the typical humour that you get in one of these mainstream comedies. It was a nice change and suited me well! Llots of great people involved. Definitely will make the dvd collection when it comes out.

The main female lead... was so ****ing gorgeous it was distracting when she was on screen.

Stephanie Szostak, some french actress. Absolutely gorgeous and adorable in the film.
