Last movie you saw

I've always thought Moonraker was quite underrated, as are Roger Moore's films in general. Yeah, it's cheesy and completely unrealistic (even in the world of Bond) but it's just so entertaining. The Man With The Golden Gun is another favourite of mine too. Roger Moore was great damn it.

Moonraker is awesome! Also man with the golden gun is one of my fav bonds. I've been slowly replacing my bond dvd collection with Blu-rays. Going favourite bond films, one at a time.

Good action, great production design, locations and special effects. It was the most expensive bond film for quite some time. They basically just went all out with it. Roger Moore had proven himself as bond so they had lots of money and they wanted bigger and better. Then after Star Wars everything was all, "space space space" and we got moonraker. It's more like a james bond spin of.

Part of the reason the effects still look quite good is they used an incredibly time consuming process. Instead of compositing with blue-screens like star wars which created matte lines and very often a loss in quality of each element.
The method they used was that they only exposed certain area's of the film to capture an element. They would then whined the film back, covered up what they filmed, then film a new element and so forth. It was done to an extent and difficulty that had never been done before at that time. Keeping track of everything with grid references ect, not knowing if it worked until it was all done.
So it let to superior image fidelity, but it was a bugger to do.
Things like the space station blowing up, they were actually shooting the model with a shot gun. I assume it was low power bird shot. The model as with most the models used were quite large. Which also helped for quality. The only reason they could get away with it was because it wasn't complex movements like x-wings and tie-fighters. You watch other sci-fi films from the period and while complexity of shots often may be more, very little to nothing matches a lot of the work for moonraker. Well the space stuff, there's plenty which isn't up to scratch and period appropriate.

The film off the cuff can easily be rubbished, however I am a big james bond fan and it's one of the most entertaining. It is what it is. A big over the top james bond film where everything is done to excess and I actually think it works surprisingly well as a good solid entertaining film.

People point to it as bond loosing the plot because of the idea that bond goes into space is pure science fiction. It is, but what's wrong with a sci-fi bond film? In You only Live Twice there's a hollowed out volcanoes that launches a rocket which captures US and soviet space capsules.
The problem with the James bond films loosing touch with reality is not in over the top stories like Moonraker, it was when they became gimmicky and the silly nature of a plot point or gadget is there to funny and a sort of wink. Moonraker may be over the top but it's consistent to the world in the film. It's not a film that momentarily goes silly.

I missed it the other night on tv, if it wasn't 10pm i would go chuck the blu-ray of it in.

I'm not sure I would want an Office Space sequel. I thought everything wrapped up quite nicely. And like you said, it probably would come across as unoriginal nowadays.

A Ghostbusters 3 would be very cool, as long as the original cast were back and it wasn't made purely as a cash cow. It'd be really cool to see ghosts and stuff with decent CGI too, because the first film especially looks so dated as it was made during the early days of computer generated special effects.

I assume he must have actually had a good idea for an office space sequel. Like not just to make one, but a proper follow up that would have stood on his own. He doesn't seem like someone who'd do one for the sake of it.

I may be wrong but I think i read about ghostbusters 3 they wanted to do the special effects to match those of the original, in style and appearance, just modern versions. So it'd be cg but a new clean version of the look.

Can't argue with any of that I have all the Bond movies in my collection, and I wasn't saying I hated it, just that it is cheesy and a little over the top. My favourite part of Bond films beint the names they get away with for some of the Bond women.... Pussy Galore, Holly Goodhead, Christmas Jones...... It's just cheese and fun.

Predators

This really is just like a predator sequel as if made back in line with the originals. Except for some CGI wolf/dog/reptiles it doesn't even contain anything that you couldn't have done back then. Which is curious because I thought this was based off a Script Robert Rodreiguez wrote in the 90s that was done with no consideration for budget or FX technology at the time and so was meant to be crazy. That would have been too expensive to have made. I see basically no example of that. Which was disappointing as I was expecting something a bit more insane and kick ass. Just a larger scale and some more dramatic, things we haven't seen before set pieces.
Instead it's really kind of just like a remake of Predator. A bunch of scenes are literally just new versions of stuff from the first film. That said it's enjoyable and entertaining. Just lacks the iconic nature of Predator. That film is still great today and this is entertaining, it's just kind of more of the same and doesn't do that much with it. It doesn't set up the characters fears and reaction to the situation as well as the first or as good as it should. Atmosphere is lacking. The conclusion they have been transported to an alien planet to be hunted comes a little too quick and easy. Also the alien jungle, maybe we've been spoiled with Avatar but there's really no reason this couldn't have been set on earth.

So yeah if you like the original you'll enjoy this. It just didn't really add anything new. It is made like a film from the period of the original. Which is good and bad. Don't want lots of crazy stuff that's silly, but they could have done something more with this. Maybe they didn't have the budget, hopefully it does well enough and we can get some unrestrained, well when necessary and to to silly proportions, sequel.

If you like the first, like action yeah it's good. All the characters are good. Adrian Brody does the action made quite well. Wanted more of Topher Grace. You'll know what I mean when you see the film.
Don't think i'm being too negative, I enjoyed the film, it just didn't meet expectations and kind of in a surprising way. I just expected it to be bigger and more bad ass than it was. Like that shot in the trailer of Adrian Brody with all the laser sights on him, that isn't in the film.

At least I hope this means the Alien vs Predator films are behind us. Although to be frank they're ok popcorn stuff. They just kind of were not treating the characters with the respect they earned from their original films. Also the predators were kind of more bad ass in them with the more modern approach to what you can do.

I'm curious to see what the new Alien film(s) will be. If you don't know, Ridley Scott who directed the first is working on 1 or 2 more Alien films. However the idea sounds terrible. It's a prequel. He keeps talking about the Space Jockey and where he and his ship with the alien eggs they find in the original come from. I think unless they have something totally awesome, they should let that remain a mystery.

Trainwreck: My Life As An Idoit
Decent low budget romantic comedy type thing. It was nice to see Seann William Scott in a different sort of role, as a neurotic man with learning disabilities trying to cope in the world. Gretchen Mol was really nice too as his love interest. I'd never seen her in anything before but she's really beautiful. Her face lit up the screen every time she appeared. But anyway, as a comedy it sort of fails but I remained fairly engrossed in the story so it's not all bad. I liked it.

36 Hours
Excellent WWII thriller about a man (James Garner) who was drugged and kidnapped by the Nazis and put in this camp where he is led to believe it is 1950 and the war is over, when in reality it is still 1944. They're doing this to get secrets of the enemy, namely the area and time in which the invasion of the nazis will begin. It's a very original idea and was executed very well, although it did begin to lose steam towards the end. It seemed to lack that extra bit of tension which was necessary for the ending to have maximum impact. It was a great film though, and I've had a major crush on Eva Marie Saint ever since I first saw North By Northwest so it was nice to see her in something else. I really must see On The Waterfront, which she won an Oscar for.

Tonight on SBS2 they are showing "Shaolin Soccer"!

A great funny and amazing movie.
If you like Soccer, Kung Fu, Slapstick comedy and a bit of heart, then it's well worth it.

The soccer match at the end is insane and brilliant.

How sad is this?

I watched

The whole Anaconda trilogy

The very first movie was great, the 2nd sequel not so great, but not bad, the third one though was a total tragedy of epic fail..... Good effects but the plot jumped around and parts of the main story made me go WTF????

Pt. 1 7/10
Pt. 2 5/10
Pt. 3 3.5/10

Flight of the Phoenix

This is the remake of the original movie and while a lot of people hate it I don't think it is that bad, The only thing that irritated me was that they had to have a token female in the cast where the original never did that.... Miranda Otto is a great actress but why was she cast in this? You never get anything good out of her in this movie..... But overall I wasn't that disappointed with the whole film either.

5/10

Run Lola Run

OMG now this was as good as I remember it. Fast paced, a few surprises I never saw the first time around and I liked it

7/10

Blazing Saddles
I really tried to like this. I just couldn't. I didn't find it funny at all. I seem to have a problem with all Westerns, spoof or not. I felt it was too manic for much of the film, and there were too many meta references for my liking.

Saw Toy Story 3 with my boyfriend, it was wonderful. I wasn't the biggest fan of Pixar or CGI movies in general but Toy Story 3 had the perfect ending to a near perfect trilogy. 9/10 (P.S. both me and my boyfriend got teary at the end, just don't let him know i said that)

How could someone not be a fan of Pixar films? Name one that's not good?

The only Pixar film I don't absolutely love is Cars. The rest are so great. Finding Nemo is my favourite.

You should watch nemo and give it a chance. I haven't seen it for ages. Once cinema, once on DVD but it was really good. Cars isn't great but it's still good. I always was a bit, yeah it's good not great with A Bugs Life. Yet again haven't watched it for years.

But the toy story films(still haven't seen 3),monsters Inc,Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall-e and Up were all excellent.

Oh and with Cars, there's a sequel coming out next year. The year after that is a Monsters Inc sequel.

Lets hope they can improve upon these and follow the toy story sequel tradition. Frankly though there's no reason not to trust them. They take their time with all their films and are not about rushing things out. Although to be honest thinking about it.. will that be 3 years straight of their films being sequels? that's a bit lame.

My favourite movie of theirs' is in fact "A Bug's Life" I just love that movie......

I just could not get my head around the world of Cars....... Yes technically the movie is good and seems fun, but I could not turn my brain off and enjoy it for many things in the film bugged me.........
