The Blob

OMG............CGI just can't compete.... All the effects were done in real time with traditional methods and theycome out very effective. This is a straight up horror movie which is a remake of the 1958 movie "the Blob" starring Steve McQueen....

Meteor crashes to Earth and an old man starts poking around it only to get blobbed...... He's not hurt only on his arm.. Some kids nearly run him down on a road as he stumbles and take him to a hospital where the Blob eats more of the old man..... Only his top half is left. Anyway from here it's gruesome death after death as the Blob invades the small town of Arborville..

This is a good movie if you like monster movies.

7/10

Such a pity that after this most movies started going CGI it's really not as good .......

The Blindside - meh. I;m no sandra fan and hubby was astounded I would even think of watching it. It was ok, nothing to rave about and I have no F idea how the hell she won an oscar for that performance, I mean seriously.

Hmmm... came across this on a film website.
I don't think I want to see the actual movie, but the trailer is seriously WTF.
I think seeing the trailer gives you everything the film offers in 2 minutes.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you... The Human Centipede!

Micmacs Awesome film. The love of old-style mechanical gadgets meets "bash an arms dealer" sentiment. But it's more than that.

Spent a quiet weekend down at Flinders following the day party on Good Friday, so got some video watching in of stuff we'd recorded off TV.

After the episode of "Beautiful People" (which is extremely funny btw) we watched "An Englishman in New York", which is about the life and times of Dennis Pratt aka Quentin Crisp.

This was kind of like an English version of Capote crossed with Harvey Milk, though he was more a social commentator than a crime writer or a politician - though was often drawn into political pronouncements.

He only died relatively recently (I think I can recall hearing about him dying several years, ago, at the age of 91). Came across as very effete and English manners, but a fairly complex and deep thinker.

It was a very good short film (about 1 hour 20) and finishes up with the song of the same name sung by Sting - so probably the song was created for the movie.

And also, without a doubt, a magnificent acting performance by John Hurt. :) 8/10

Compare it to "Avatar", "Titanic", or any of the LOTR trilogy, and it's a decidely short film.

Like Tropfest or something?

Ok so it's a short long film then.

(I'm really enjoying typing around this 'Security Tool' box, I don't think. Why do people who don't own this PC have to collect a virus from their surfing activities?) :cardy:

Knowing

While 2012 was a fun take on the disaster movie, almost unintentional satire IMHO Knowing was serious and sombre...... And wow what a downbeat ending?

I always wanted a downbeat ending but now I feel sad and depressed..... Not sure how to describe this film.... I liked it very much but the resolution was for me a little troubling...

2012 was knowingly satire. I enjoyed the atmosphere of Knowing.

Clash of the Titans

You know what, I enjoyed the heck out of this. It was big fun adventure film making that never took itself seriously. It never stopped to look at what was going on. They just went on their adventure, had actions, did things, sure it makes no sense, but it's gods, and giant sea monsters, flying horses ect. So why take it seriously. It had more an old adventure fantasy feeling to it. It was fun, didn't care about what made sense. It had a interesting story, that never got in the way of fights with giant scorpions ect. It just took from the rich source material, had some fun with it, didn't care about explaining it. I liked this change of pace in a big block buster.

I saw it in 2D which is the way everyone should see it, as the 3D apparently is horrendous as it wasn't shot in 3d and only converted quickly and at a low standard as a result.

So yeah for some fun, for something to not take time to dwell on what's happening, this is a good one. I can see how a lot of people will savage it for a lot of the reasons I thought it was good as a nice change of pace.

Sam worthington though, he seemed to be whispering most of his lines which was odd.

I really enjoyed this movie. Yes it was downbeat but I thought it ended on a positive note.

Tonight I watched the movie/doco, The Cove. It was absolutely horrendous & sickening :(

I'm pretty sure "The Cove" won best documentary feature at this year's Oscars.

On a completely different note....Sandra Bullock won for best actress. Can someone please explain what on earth possessed her to be living with (or was it married?) to a bikie redneck who likes to wear Nazi paraphanelia, do Hitler salutes, and whose arm is covered with garish tatoos? 😵‍💫

Don't try to work out women...... I asked the same question about her choice of guy and it turned into a mini drama. I mean big time Hollywood actress.... Should be seen with maybe another actor they fancy or a doctor, or a lawyer.. Someone posh.

Saving Private Ryan was on last night.
Still a "whoah" gut hitting film that reminded me that if I was in the Army, I'd have been dead before I got even out of the boat.

That opening scene does have a whole lot more bite on a big cinema screen though. I remember being exhausted by then end of it the first time round.
