Last movie you saw

Alice in Wonderland (2010) - see above, pretty dull and uninteresting

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
- looked horrible so never saw it.

Corpse Bride (2005) - never saw it.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) - entertaining film. What else is there to say really? Not bad, not great, but just entertaining.

Big Fish (2003) - Only saw this at the cinema's but I really liked it at the time.

Planet of the Apes (2001) - You know I actually think this is a decent film. It's entertaining and different enough that it works if you buy in to it. I did catch a little bit on foxtel the other day and it seemed kind of dodgy, but the couple of times i've seen it, I always enjoyed it.

The World of Stainboy (2000) - ????

Sleepy Hollow (1999) - have to think back to the cinema, I think at the time I thought it was alright but not great.

Mars Attacks! (1996) - Quite enjoy this as a fun, silly film about aliens.

Ed Wood (1994) - really like this film. I think it's his most underated film, mostly because whenever i bring it up most people haven't seen it and it's never on lists of his best films. When it is just such a well made film and Depp is great in it.

Batman Returns (1992) - Another great burton batman film. Still quite enjoy this one a lot.

Edward Scissorhands (1990) - Haven't seen it for years, last time i saw it though i seemed to remember it being a bit short and you know not as much in it as I thought there'd be. Really though I remember it being good, not great.

Batman (1989) - Excellent film. Still holds up quite well today. When it came out and I was a kid I was nuts for it!

Beetle Juice (1988) - also haven't seen it for years, no idea to be honest

Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) - been years since i've seen it. I seem to remember it being sort of harmless fun.

Oh and I didn't include nightmare before christmas as he didn't direct it. But it's a good film.

I saw Shutter Island today. Fell asleep for a bit, and I've never done that in the movies before :O

I thought Leonardo DiCaprio was as talented as ever but the story took so long to tell that I lost interest - not that it was a bad story just poorly done in the telling.

I said above that I didn't like POTA.......Well that is true but you know once you start watching it you have to let the film run.. It's not that I don't like the film it's just I don't like some aspects of the story and production, and the ending is what made me hate it. Crappy tacked on ending.

As for Alice In Wonderland I thought that film should have been based on the video game Alice by American McGee..... I could swear some of the imagery in the film was out of the game.

For those who don't know this game.

The game is actually good

LOL! Here, here!

2012, what a stupid bloody movie! was it meant to be a comedy? I expected Will Ferrell to pop up at any minute.

Alice in 3D.. Again I enjoyed it :) I like going to the movies :) I did feel a heap of empathy for the Red Queen, Helena Bonham Carter is the bomb! Johnny Depp was awesome, he gets right into his characters.

cos I know what its like to have a perfect sister lol and I dont think she realised what she was doing was necessarily wrong.

The movie is a self-aware block buster destruction movie. It's mean to be fun, funny and cliched to a point. Not a comedy, parody or spoof, but definitely self-aware and just having fun with the ridiculous nature of the concept.

Personally I thought it was great! Lots of fun, very entertaining! The silly nature of some of the idea's, scenes, characters, scenario's I thought were played right into the big fun, entertaining nature of the film, being self-aware it wasn't stupid. Entertainment for entertainments sake. You couldn't do the film if it took the concept straight.

True but I like my end of the world movies all full of doom lol

I hope The Road lives up to that. I haven't seen it yet but heard its good and depressing.

Revolver

You know, the guy richie film that is meant to be unwatchable?
I actually quite enjoyed it. It did get a big confusing at times, and isn't completely set out and straight forward. It's one of those films though that are meant to be a bit confusing and unclear, although it all was there in the end. Apparently I saw the shorter, dumbed down for america version of the film. Which is annoying as no where on the DVD did it say it was not the UK/Global version of the film. I think i'll check out that version later on. It is the sort of film that seems as if it'd benefit from repeat viewing. I think with the quite intelligent premis, it is delivered deliberately to be quite complex and confusing, but that's to sort of mirror what's going on in the film.

Definately not a film for everyone. If you can't stand deliberately complex, confusing films, then yeah stay away. Definitely not what I expected from Guy Richie, but I liked it.

I don't even know how to explain the premise, because there's the basic set up of Jason Stathoms character getting out of jail, where he learned the formula for the perfect con and that ties into the main point and story, but I can't explain that with out giving the film away. There's also some really brilliantly done scenes in the film although a little self-indulgent. Not as much as Richard Kelly's Southland Tales. This is a much better concept though and shorter, although they are only similar in that the directors are not over confident, being self0indulgent and not as straight forward and clear as most films.

I will order from the UK the proper version and watch in a few months I think.

Well that's meant to be a ultra dark serious approach.

I don't know whether to read the book before I see the film or not.

OSS 117: Lost in Rio

Caught this at the French Film festival and it did not disappoint! If you like comedies, like spy movies like the old bond ones, film for you. Although see "OSS 117: Cairo Next of Spies" first. This time OSS 117, heads to south america to track down a former Nazi and works along side a sexy Mossad agent. I'll have to look up some reaction to this film, some of the jokes and humour were so non PC, it was absolutely hilarious and I think a lot of people may not get the humour. I really liked the first in this modern series of oss117 films and I really liked this. Can't wait to see more when they get around to making another!

I saw the movie of The Road a few nights ago. It's a good faithful adaptation. But you just can't get into the meat of the themes in the story in 1hour, 45 minutes. The whole greyness of what makes a person "good" or "bad".

I don't think it matters whether you see the movie or read the book first. It's not a story of shock surprises. But read the book or download the audiobook. I suspect if you see the movie first you'll possibly go "Huh? Is that all it is?". It's not Mad Max. It's something quieter, and sadder.

I also saw The Bad Lieutenant.
This is the kind of movie that makes me like Nicolas Cage. Not the fluff he's been doing lately.
He's a drug addicted corrupt cop in New Orleans. Supposedly chasing down some killers, but that is just the side story. The real story is this guy getting more and more wasted on crack and cocaine, and getting weirder and more over the top reckless as his life heads towards a cliff.

"Shoot him again. His Soul is still dancing"

Aaaand... I just saw Avatar again.
It's near the end of it's run. Only a few cinemas still showing it. Heck, only about 8 people in my session.
It was on a smaller screen. This time the 3D didn't wow me, but hey, still looks great.

And this time the story worked better for me.
People saying "It's just a remake of Pocahontas". Yeah it is.
And that actually makes the movie more poignant, because in the end you know what really happened to Pocahontas' tribe. Those New York Indians are long long gone.

We own the Disney DVD "Pocahontas 2". Where our Indian hottie heroine goes to London. And she really did in real life. It actually happened. What the Disney movie doesn't tell you is that she caught Smallpox and died in London.

The main unrealistic problem with Avatar is that it gave the Na'vi a happy ending.

The whole "remake of pocahontas" thing kind of annoys me. Yeah it's similar, but that's because that was similar to many things, there's plenty of films and books and fiction and true story that have the same themes and ideas. I think it's too simplistic to just say that. Maybe it just annoys me, because, and it's not directed at you, just the general, it seems kind of lame how because it's such a successful film, everyone has to add their own little negative comment or something as if it's some what beneath everyone to have enjoyed the most successful film ever. It's like, yeah like it or don't, whatever, but have a criticism that isn't just a ticked off, neither here nor there type thing to if the film was good or not.

That sort of thing annoy anyone else? People feeling the need to put the little dig at the film after saying something good? Just seems douche. People do it for lots of main stream films, as if it's embarrassing to enjoy something popular, or that isn't dark or edgy. Just one of those things that bugs me, and there's been a lot with avatar. "I liked it, but it was shit" kind of thing.

Story themes, being nothing new but now in a sci-fi arena and not the most original, amazing thing ever... yeah as i've said many times before... They never would have made the film if it was anything but well worn and tested themes due to the budget needed.

I don't know if i'll see it before it leaves cinema's which may be when clash of the titans comes out in a couple weeks. They said they might re-release an extended version later on in the year when there's less 3d films out, might wait until then.

Evolver

Two kids win a prize in the form of this little interactive robot thing. The snag is it keeps evolving and to a point where it becomes dangerous.... It's a silly movie but I like silly.
