Last movie you saw

Mary and Max hands down one of the best films i have ever seen i think i'm going to watch it again, you guys really need to find this movie and watch it, it's about an 8 year old girl in Melbourne who finds a penpal in Max a 40 something year old new york man with asperegers, it chronicalizes their friendship and lives spanning twenty years. 9.5/10

Elvis and Annabelle 7/10 very touching, great acting i really enjoyed this film. It's about a boy who gave up his life to look after his ailing father while a girl takes part in a beauty pageant, she dies unexpectedly and ends up in his embalming room where she miraculously comes alive again and they fall inlove, very sweet.

Paranormal Activity

Really excellent. Genuinely creppy. It's nice in this day and age where "scary" movies are typically violent blood orgies to see something that is so ingenious and well done that something as simple as a door moving actually is chilling. I have often wondered if people really get scared in movies, I for one never have, but can be creeped out rarely. Genuiningly it's just the entertainment exilleration factor, but this genuinely was creepy as hell. Shot as if it's a couple filming a spirit in their house, the couple are dead on convincing which helps sell this film. While probably two things let the film down, it's really well done. It all depends if you can buy into this style of film, but if you can it's worth watching.

Appaloosa
A western with Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen, Jeremy Irons and Renée "chipmonk"Zellweger. Yeah it's a sort of interesting story not really explored. A film that wishes it was suspseful tension but is ultimately a whole lot of nothing really happening and never achieves much atmosphere. It wasn't terrible but was genuining a whole lot of nothing. No actor really gets a chance to shine. There's hints of more interesting things going on, but they are never explored. The films about the tone and the mood which is never achieved.
I would say, yeah give it a miss.

Surrogates. Meh.

I didn't understand why all the people controlling the surrys weren't big blobs of gelatinous fat considering they rarely left their chairs.

Just pretend there was some sort of future pill they took that was developed for space flight to reduce the effects of atrophy.

Departures (Okuribito)

A well crafted film about a Japanese man who loses his cello gig, so he returns to his hometown with his wife (Ryoko Hirosue, who is cuteness personified), and is unexpectedly employed in the funeral industry. He soon becomes absorbed by his work, but trouble ensues when those close to him don't quite share his perspective.

I found Departures a fascinating glimpse into Japanese culture. Their funeral practices are as strange to me as their bathing customs. A sentimental, moving story.

I found 3 movies all in series called "The Librarian" some kind of adventure thingy. Are they any good? The blubs on the back of the DVD's looked kinda interesting but anyone seen them?

That sounds dodgy! the old guy sounds like a pedophile, and why is he growing asperegers? Is it because he can ask the little girl if he's pee smells funny so she gets close to his man bits?

Hilarious pawlini, aspargaus and aspergers are two different things.
It's one of the most touching films i have ever seen (and no not in that way pawlini)

Watch The Bad Mother's Handbook here - http://video.google.com.au/videopla...QBo6mwgON1cnDAw&q=bad+mother's+handbook&hl=en

Direct viewing on google videos, it's a great little BBC movie about 3 generations of women/mothers.
Stars Catherine Tate, and Robert Pattinson - of Harry Potter/Twilight fame as an adorkable dork.

I just saw The Boat that Rocked, it was great fun, loved the cast and the soundtrack is superb.
It dragged in the middle a bit, first and last sections rock. I hated the the politician bits, and they should have given it a broader perspective - I mean I wanted to know more about this pirate ship stuff, that could have been much more itneresting and exciting. But genrally enjoyable and some very cute youn Brits in in plus fabulous Bill Nighy.

I watched this last night on dvd. It was the strangest movie. Not what I expected at all considering the writers. I spent the first 1/4 thinking WTF? then then started to really warm to it. By the end I thought it was really good. Some of the scenes cracked me up and it's not very often I actually laugh out loud at a movie. The dvd also has about 40 minutes of deleted scenes and there was some really funny stuff, some of it was the best of the movie, that they had to cut to keep the movie a viewable time. Worth seeing. Don't forget the deleted scenes. Loved the music.

They have a lot of fans. I have only seen the first one, and it was entertaining in a b-grade somewhat cheesy way. They're a successful series of TV movies and so yeah a bit underwritten, bit over reaching in what they attempt with the budget or at least the first one was, but it was entertaining. It wasn't great, wasn't bad. Just don't expect a polished script and top class film making. It'll really depend on what sort of film watcher you are. If you can just go along with a film and not get stuck on the flaws but go with the entertainment then you'll be fine.
I do keep meaning to watch the other two. I think I actually wrote my original thoughts on here actually.. i'll go find it.

The Librarian

Never had seen any of these direct to TV indiana jones, light hearted action adventure movies. Had the three sitting on my shelf, so finally decided to check them out. It's nice that people still make movies that are not meant to take themselves serious, embrace the low budget and are just there to have fun. That said, I think i slightly lacked a level of fun and goofiness it fully needed. It just wasn't quite all there to completely work. There was a sense of fun, just not enough of one and not consistent enough that held the film back from truly working. Films like Romance & the Stone did the whole comedic tone better. It was enjoyable enough and I will soon watch the next two.

I don't go to movies to be critical. I go to escape and have fun. I love B movies and B movie sendups...... Sounds like I would probably enjoy these.

All 3 were $9 at Target

Star Trek on DVD.

Wow! I was pleasantly surprised and I can't stand the old Star Trek! JJ Abrams has really improved this franchise.
