Last movie you saw

Haha, I love that movie. And that rape scene is the best part. But I'm sick.

Well, I don't like it in THAT way. It's just a very daring scene to put on film and I applaud the director.

Just watched African Queen on TV. (Bogie & Hepburn) Movie making has sure changed a lot in the last 60 years. They cut two holes below the waterline in the bow of their boat to shove in some torpedos and then are shocked it sinks...well duh!

It's very confronting..... I felt most uncomfortable watching it hence why I stopped the movie.

Did they ever get the correct guy for her rape? I read one movie review before seeing it saying they got the wrong guy.

Disgrace With John Malkovich. (He kept rustling his chip packet and I had to tell him to keep silent).

It's a film made with Australian finance and Australian directed, but starring John Malkovich and set in South Africa (first Cape Town and then out in the country).

Based on the Booker award winning novel from 10 years ago, by JM Coetzee (who now lives in Adelaide I believe). Could be imagining it, but I know what Coetzee looks like, and I thought I saw him in the audience.

You know, it was pretty good, amazing acting from Malkovich as you'd expect. Quite deep in dealing with human emotions, self destructiveness, and responses to crisis.

His response to the charges he faced as the uni professor summed up one of the central themes, ie the things we do sometimes have no rhyme or reason to them, and while these acts may harm ourselves or others, they are neither evil or good acts in intent sometimes, they are what they are.

Also possibly a bit of a metaphor for white South Africans as a group, in which case the ending was probably totally apt. It was certainly a low key finish, but a very contemplative one.

So like a lot of good arthouse films, it keeps you thinking about it as you walk home up Toorak Rd.

Our friends wanted to see Transformers instead, but everyone went with my choice and went arthouse. I was a bit anxious that people wouldn't enjoy Disgrace but everyone seemed to.

You couldn't get two more different films.

Anyway at least you can take the pinot gris into the arthouse theatre and hopefully avoid any previews showing the crass and tacky Sascha Baron Cohen (wake me up when he's been and gone, I ask you).

Want to see. I saw the review of this, and just had to admire his blatant honesty infront of the tribunal. I instantly liked the character.

It's to do with the central theme, I guess, being about the "mad heart". He accepts his actions had negative consequences but thinks it's dishonest to say that he 'regrets' it, because he had no regrets at the time.

Just saw this trailer. :)

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

LSCP, numba1son, and I have just got back from seeing the latest "Ice Age". Didn't bother with the 3D version. Twas a pleasant diversion and just as much a hoot as expected.

However, I found myself mere minutes into the film, recasting it with popular BBBA identities, which I've listed as follows and in no particular order.

Please don't be offended by either inclusions or omissions ... in fact, feel free to come up with your own recasting to suit you. :)

Obviously you'll have to see the film to understand my recastings. ;)

Diego = Cosmo
Manny = Bono
Ellie = CBBB
"Peaches" = A certain blossoming romance. :)
Sid = CLE
A Very Colourful butterfly = Bkeela
Mumma Dino = DQ
Dino hatchlings = The Mod Squad
The Acorn = the interNut
Scrat the Squirrel = Ben
Scratte The Flying Female Squirrel = Shiloh (a big lol for the squirrel recastings. :))
Big Bad Rudy = ackbar (hey, dinos just get bigger with age, not smarter ;))
Crash & Eddy = hmmmm. Considering who is gunna play Buck, I dunno. Sockpuppets ?
Buckminster = Yours Truly. :D

Ah, that will do ... it might add an additional layer of lol for some viewers.

Who could Rave be? or DanielaAshleigh

Been a while since i've been her. Probably watched a couple of things that i'm drawing a blank on...ummm

Watched Good Luck Chuk
Eh it was watchable, just sort of fairly tame film about what you'd expect. Story wasn't really fully developed as I would have liked. Pleasant enough and generally light amusement through out.

Bruno
Well it's about all I expected. I was disappointed with Borat. Mainly because it just wasn't simply as funny as the TV borat and having seen all of that, it was just some what of a disappointment. I think i preffered this more first time round. It didn't seem to have less in it, and missed a lot of the smaller moments and rapid fire laughs of Borat. I think the basic problem is with Borat he can poke fun of everything, the possibilities are much less her. There's plenty of funny bits through out, some very funny. It also wasn't as "shocking" as i was expected. The other thing really out there pushing it was the Penis bit.
Compared to borat this really was more story orientate, every thing was basically there to run into the next set up. This is where I think the main downfall of these films compared to the tv series lies. The characters were invented for the interviews, not their own stories. The Story in this, i don't care about I just want to see Bruno interacting with various people in different situations. The situations never develop as well as in the TV show because they have to serve a purpose. So while funny, the tv format allows for them to be funnier.
It's still a very funny movie, definitely not for everyone. I don't think it pushed the gay thing as much as I expected. It also just feels it has less material than borat did. I still enjoyed it, but like with Borat I am on the out of thinking it's amazing. I really do think with this and with Borat the documentary set up just isn't done in the correct manner for the characters. One has to wonder, while stringing a fictional storyline into these films, which is very thin and just to set up real scenes, which are to set up fictional storylines to set up the next fictional scene, why bother with a story at all?

I also get the feeling there's probably a lot of gold material that didn't make it in the film. Sacha on letterman the other night mentioned a part of a scene that's in the film.. yet that part wasn't in the film. The infamous bingo scene wasn't in the film. With a problem of the Borat production shifting direction of the film halfway through filming, this would have avoided this, and maybe is what let to it seeming less fully of the little moments and more contrived.

I guess i'm just rambling, it's hard to talk about a film like this. If you think you'll like it, go, it is very funny, but as a film it's not great. If that makes sense?
