Last movie you saw

Re year One - I saw the trailor for this and it looked dam terrible, really really bad, I couldn't get the gist of it and not one person laughed in a fully packed cinema.

I bought Flying High 1 & 2 for the kids and they laughed their heads off, so did I. Quite junvenile and pathetic. :D

I look at this movie as a basically crap movie that has a few ok chuckles that makes it an ok experience, not a complete waste of time to watch, while being far from a good or clever movie?

Hows that compare to it?

You know someone should releae a movie and call it "Crap Movie" I mean actually have that in the title, like it would be fun

I wonder if you could do a film like that but with some brains behind it.

"Not Another Crap Parody Movie"

But actually work in a story and do a huge number of references in a clever way and taking the crap out of those parody films... hmmmz i reckon it could be done

Serving Sara

This was a fun comedy starring Matthew Perry and Elizabeth Hurley. It starts out with Hurley going on a holiday and saying goodbye to her millionaire husband played Gordon played by Bruce Campbell. Anyway no sooner has she jumped out of his car he goes down the road a bit to the other end of the airport terminal and picks up another woman, his mistress. You see Gordon wants to divorce Sara but in such a way that she can't have nay of his money or assets. So he files to have her served under Texas law, Texas being where he lives, as if the husband files divorce first the wife gets nothing.

So enter Matthew Perry as Joe the server. And madcap chase as he tries to file papers on Sara and do it before his dimwit rival Tony beats him to it. There's lots of funny moments in this and a lot of that is to do with the rivalry between Joe and Tony..

Anyway this was I thought a fun movie and I laughed a lot.

I tell you what I'm annoyed at, is that IMDB is now only putting new movies in IMDB pro which is a pay service! I knew slowly they would charge for this site being the biggest movie index on the web.

Occupation

Technically not a movie but a 3 part, 3 hour bbc series which really is just one movie. Basically it follows the impact of serving in Iraq on these three soldiers lives over several years. Based in Basra and back in the UK this is the sort of series that is hard hitting to the point where it would never be made in the USA. While I really enjoyed the excellent HBO 7 hour Iraq war movie Generation Kill, this actually brings home how war changes people. It was also nice to have at least, and while too small, but actually did pretty effectively show the transition of the life of Iraqi's. This is the sort of tv experience which is TV at it's top level. While it doesn't explore the issues as far enough as they should be explored, and while the iraqi experience is done no where near as much as those hundreds of thousands of dead demands the series does come with an emotional punch. The political side is cast aside and the film is about a few select experiences. War takes it's toll and it's the people on the ground that suffer. This is tv as good as it gets.

Really my main criticism falls into, why aren't we seeing the full extend of the real victims. Its a side effect of our culture. It's like all those vietnam war films about how hard it was on the USA soldiers... it's like.. excuse me they were their by choice, whether by theirs or their governments, the real victims are those with the situation thrust upon them. That is the greater story that needs to be told. However this did really show the suffering of the educated females in the society and actually did show why people would turn against the allied forces. I found myself one minute thinking how an iraqi character should be angry as hell at the foreigners in his country and what they are doing, but then a minute later hating that character for what they are doing in response. Such are the complexities of that situation.

Top Quality Tv that packs an emotional punch to the gut.

And IMDB doesn't always check their data... Why are you paying for it?

Today's the Day

Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus

Now this was quite fun... I don't mind that it has slightly dodgy effects it's not meant to be a serious movie. That you had fun watching it is all that matters so STFU movie reviewers because you are paid to review movies with a bad attitude go and get effed.... I enjoyed the ride.

Love the plane attack and the underwater attacks. And love the giant octopus swatting fighter planes. Idiot pilots should have learnt how to fire missiles, that's what they're there for.

OH and it seems the DVD is region 0 meaning the makers don't believe in region coding

I finally saw Terminator Salvation.
Some good bits. There's a good movie with a few smart ideas hidden in there. Somewhere.

But so much stupid stuff. So, so much.
If you get an iron girder shoved through your chest, it doesn't merely give you a "heart that can't handle the stress".
And Christian Bale was basically yelling with a hoarse throat and being angry for the entire movie. Not a wide emotional range displayed there.

And... really, the whole Terminator idea is stupid anyway. Really. You want to destroy humanity? Making robots is a silly waste of time. What about poisoning the air? What about if the Nukes of Judgment Day didn't completely do the job, then do a couple more Judgment Days. Nuke the planet good and proper.

Don't forget who directed this movie ... Did you expect much else? He's not that good.

Acquired "Gran Torino" at "Readers" in St Kilda yesterday, it was exchanged for a book someone bought my partner. Haven't started watching it yet, but will let you know when we have! I've heard good things about this movie mostly.

We went for the DVD because we couldn't think of a book we wanted. And wouldn't you know it, as soon as we bought the DVD I noticed JM Coetzee's "Disgrace" at the front door. D'oh! Now that will be an interesting movie, so it might be good to read the book at the same time.

Devil wears prada...well most of it...i watched the first 10 mins got bored and started cleaning the house...then stopped every so often to see if it had gotten interesting yet...but it never did :/

Boring..... I never got the point, and made up a couple of my own :) Namely that there's this magazan where ths aged woman has everyone stroking her fragile ego and this is the story of that magazine and that woman. There story told.

got to around the 15 minute mark actually, on that one. It's always harder mind you, watching stuff in bed.

Oh gosh, that movie was soooo dull and meaningless. I should've known I wouldn't like it as it clearly doesn't tailor to my demographic or tastes but I thought I'd try it and definitely regretted it. At least Anne Hathaway looked nice.

Oceans 12

Never seen it before. It was entertaining, but just wasn't as slick or witty as it needed to be or as the first was. The plot was a complete jumble and a mess and I don't think makes any sense, the humour wasn't particularly great except for a great twist towards to end of the movie that elevated the rest of the film. Back to the plot an structure, you know the basic premis that kicks the film rolling then it's really just over the place you rarely know what's going on more than the current scene. It actually could have done with a better polish on the script to being more coherant, although the carelessness of this means they probably just didn't care.

I understand Oceans 13 was done because everyone agreed something was off with this. I shall watch that soon.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

Oh come on were we really expecting a pulitzer prize winning story in an action movie? The first one barely had a story .... I'm still excited to see the sequel but know it's just a straight action piece. So I'm not going in there to be blown away with stellar story telling. That was never going to happen.

I'm more angry that Hollywood can make these movies and not give any thought to solid writing and a good story versus action. They let the action take over from the story. It could have been light years better then what it was. That goes for both movies.

Both could have been so much better yet they went down the path of least reistance and brain power for that matter and just let the FX and action sell their product.
