Spaceballs.
I got it ages ago cheap on DVD but never got around to watching it.

God it's got some bad bad gags in it.
"We have to jam their radar!" - and a jar of rasberry jam is thrown at a radar dish.
"Comb the planet for her!" - and the baddies have giant combs to scrape the sand with...
Yeesh.

But it's good for seeing Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet, and Mel Brooks as Yogurt.

LOL I bought and rewatched that a while ago Karaoke and I remember feeling slightly let down by it. I loved it when I was younger but unfortunately for me hasn't translated as well now i'm older. I still found it funny, as you said there are some bad gags, but it was a tedious experience.

Oh good I don't feel alone then..... I watched it once got one or two giggles out of it then chucked the dvd...Same for Wall-E 2nd time around it didn't hold up too well.

My kids really like Spaceballs but they love Galaxy Quest and Robin Hood - Men in Tights. They have that type of sense of humour. Oh, and of course Monty Python and the Holy Grail. They're forever quoting them. When my 8 year old fell out of a tree and broke his arm, his first words to me when they bought him home were "But I'm not dead yet" Cracks me up. (the quote, not the broken arm)

Well, I've been having a bit of a movie week this week.

I've watched the entire Child's Play series and I've fallen in love with Chucky again. It's been years since I've seen them and it was good watching them again. I might have to actually buy them.

I also rented Sweeney Todd. I've been meaning to watch it for ages but always forgot. I quite liked it. I thought there may have been a little bit too much singing, but the appearance of the movie made up for that. The makeup and costuming was brilliant and the sets were amazing and just the way the people were killed was great.

I recommend it. =]

I really liked Sweeney Todd, the violence was so OTT that it wasn't disturbing. But I enjoy most Burton movies

Hot Fuzz was on last night, hilarious rip-off of cop movies!!

Club Dread

I got Club Dread... It's funny in a sick humour kind of way. Basically the crew of a holiday resort find one day people are being bumped off one by one o this island paradise kind of holiday resort.

there are some funny moments and the ending is good. I liked the ending. And lots of people in bikinis. Perfect fun for people who like bikinis and the outdoors.

Sex Drive: Second viewing and I still loved it. Such a fun movie.

You watch the directors cut? or unreated cut? With the random naked people super imposed, and out takes and shit?

It really was a surprisingly funny movie.

"Curse of the Ring" turned out to be cursed/scratched (which is a shame as the half we saw ...right up to where the "fall in love" potion is being handed over, was pretty good), so we are now watching "Bubba-Hotep" ... another Bruce Campbell movie.

I've heard the curse of the ring was decent low budget entertainment. I think i have the dvd somewhere, might check it out. If you turned it off, must be good! : haha

Bubba-Hotep was ok.... it was watchable but not particular good as you'd want from BC.

I watched it the other night. I wrote something on my laptop about it, i'll post it later today.

I thought that ending just wasn't quite explored, maybe in a book when thought processes are explained more, while I understood it, it just didn't seem to quite work.

Paul Blart Mall Cop - just terrible, the kids loved it of course.

Easy Virtue - a period type piece with Colin Firth. not that good.

Elegy - with Penelope Cruz and some old bald bloke......um not sure about this one, it had it's moments, it's art house so you need to be "in the mood"...um...if you thought you might want to see it like me than you're better to satisfy your curiosity, I don't think you will be disappointed it was a bit sort of...not boring but...uneventful maybe oh I'm struggling to express myself on this one.

I had always heard quite negative things about the film. Being too long, self indulgent, incoherent a complete mess ect. So while i purchased the dvd some time ago, i never got around to watching it, expecting to dislike it.

Finally got around to watching it tonight, and I actually quite liked it. Yes the film is a complete mess, but not in a terrible unwatchable way. It comes together a bit at the end, and I don't really know what it all meant, there's a lot there to see if it all fits together. The basic premise is straight forward, it is very much all over the place, but I did enjoy the film, and did find it interesting. I don't think there's any great hidden meaning, just a bit of an abstract all over the place, but some how all fitting together.

It's definitely not a film for everyone. For those that don't know, it's set in an alternative 2008, in hollywood, where the USA is in a police type state, the middle eastern war is much larger, there were nuclear strikes against the USA in 2004, brining on all this. It follows a porn star, a political connected through marriage actor with amnesia, a cop and his twin brother, an underground movement, trying to black mail the government, alternative energy, big brother sate.. and yeah there's a big tapestry in this film. Go read a summary. A quick look at the IMBD and i see a comment that does follow my sentiments.

I liked the film, but I don't know if I could recommend it. I suggest you have to make a judgement call on if the film sounds interesting, and then with all the, many elements, the some what of a mess of simple elements, and story threads, if you think you won't find it too annoying, or not for you.

But yeah i dug it, expecting not to.

It's interesting seeing different people's reactions to this film. It completely befuddled me (whereas I LOVED Donnie Darko), if someone asked me what it was about, I have no idea how I would answer them. However, my Hubby loves this film with a passion and would put it in his top 5.

Anyway, we got the DVD resurfaced at the shop and tried again and it worked on my partner's laptop after that, which meant we could cuddle up while watching the tragic romantic second half.

On my "worth seeing" list ... along with the theatre movie "Knowing", starring Nicholas Cage.

It was funny, he wrote one of the first reviews for the film, very positive, then was shocked when he found out most other reviews were really negative. Over on his site he then wrote a piece about, how he was surprised by this, and was he wrong, or was everyone else wrong.

Yeah, I read rogerbert's "roll of whose dice" review after seeing the movie ... and then spent a couple of hours reading and exploring the comments.

Conclusion ? Yanks seem to take their movies (and pennies) REALLY seriously !

I read Eberts comments back when it was news. I just went over to rottentomatoes, not a single one of the top critics listed there liked it haha
That movie is meant to be terrible in all regards. Even the more rational ID proponents can't even support it.

Disturbia

Always meant to see this, heard it was good, but never gave it much thought until i saw it in the discount bin in JB a few weeks back. It's a loose remake of the still excellent Alfred Hitchcock classic, Rear Window. Right there, is a red flag to not bother as another remake of a classic that doesn't need to be remade. However it's really only the basic core concept. This time it's about a 17 year old teen on house arrest over the summer with an electronic ankle tag. Another red flag to miss it.. teens. It stars Shia LaBouf, so that is a red flag if you are someone that dislikes him. Personally I quite enjoy his take on the smart talking, quick thinking, geeky teen. He's essentially the same character as in Transformers. So yeah it generally sounds like it won't be a good film, or just lame or what have you. It definitely is not though.
So Kale (Shia's character) is stuck in the house, no xbox, no tv, no itunes, and starts looking out the windows onto the surround neighbours, and the hot girl who just moved in next door. Of course his attention is attracted to one very creepy neighbor who lives alone behind his house who he starts to believe is a serial killer. It actually was a thoroughly entertaining and suspenseful film. Way above average. I was watching it by myself in the home theatre, and I was laughing out loud and just into the film way more than i normally would be watching a film by myself. I was thoroughly engaged, thrilled and entertained by the film. Really was way better than expectations. Definitely a film worth checking out. While you're at it, get Rear Window. There's no need to compare the two, it's just the core concept of someone confined to the house looking out at neighbours and thinking one's a killer.
