Last movie you saw

I watched Witches last night. :D Nothing was on and I hadn't seen it in awhile. I love that movie, it was my favourite growing up.

There Will Be Blood
Great. Well, the first half of the film wasn't doing a lot for me but I liked the second half which delved more into Daniel's mind and it became more of a character study. Not PTA's best work but definitely a great film.

In Bruges - Was pretty decent actually. Not as good as i was lead to believe, but i liked.

Outlander - An alien(who looks human) and the monster(a dragon type thing) that he is transporting crash land in viking Norway. And the alien guy and the vikings team up to capture and kill it. Awesome! Haha, well it was a good film for a mix of sci-fi, epic, viking action film. Not like a brilliant great film, but it was entertaining and did what it was supposed to do. I hate when people rag on these films for being dumb, but it did what it was meant to do, entertain and had a nice new story to do it.

I recently saw Slumdog Millionaire. I really didn't want to see it, but there was nothing else on and I wanted to go to the movies, so I went and saw it with my mother. I ended up loving every minute of it. It's funny, smart, dramatic and just a plain good movie. And the scene at the end, brilliant.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a wonderful film in my opinion. Such a unique story idea executed brilliantly. Michel Gondry's visual style is amazing, also. I can understand why the film would be slightly confusing as it's told in such an unorthodox manner, but I hardly think it's boring. Of course, this is only my opinion. By the way, I hope your English class hasn't made you believe "boringest" is a word :O

I thought this movie was DREADFUL. I think I said that on another page. It sucks because Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey are two of my most favourite people ever.

The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior

it's a direct to video prequel, to a prequel to the sequel of a remake. That a side, really, what do you expect? It was cheesy, and if you ever asked why films set in ancient times use English accents, this will answer why. The American accents and dialogue sounds so cheesy. I think for a low budget film, it's ok, but if you think there's a chance you won't like it, you probably won't. It's just a cheap sort of film, which isn't terrible and entertains. Just know you're watching a very cheap b grade movie. One thing though, for the budget, its actually pretty well directed with the limited resources. Could have done with some tighter editing and pacing however.

Could the Mach 5 do all the things it did in the cartoons?

I'm gonna put in another plug for Speed Racer. I bought the DVD the other day and watched it sitting far too close to the TV so that the colours filled my eyeballs. It's fun, damnit, no matter what people say in reviews. The race scenes are really wild. The final moments of the last race made my body buzz from sensory overload.

The dialog is corny, but damnit, it's emulating a 1970's (1960's? I dunno) Saturday morning kids cartoon, and the movie doesn't turn it's back on it's roots. It embraces it's cornballness.

I have the series on DVD and love it......

But in the movie does the car do all the same tricks?

Speed Racer was one of the best films of last year. I don't care what anyone says, it was great!! It was a film I went and saw by myself in the last week or so it was showing and so glad i did. As i said to people after i saw it, it'll be a film that once it's out on dvd you'll be hearing people saying how good it is. I think because of the style, people were just put off, and I swear thats where the bad reviews came from. People who made up their mind before they saw the film, or people who can't enjoy a good child at heart sort of film.

I have never watched the series, so can't comment if the cars do the same things, but they do all sorts of crazy physically impossible stuff.

Just saw Gran Torino, it was amazing, Clint Eastwood is such a cool old man, but i had to laugh at the end in the credits were it just had his vioce and him singing 'my...Gran Torino'

But yeah it was great, brilliant direction and acting.

Yeah Gran Torino is brilliant.......geart movie.

You should get hold of the series..... it's anime but it's fun.

The car jumps, and has all sorts of James Bond style gadgets. Other cars have tricks of their own. It's almost like the old Wacky Racers cartoon, but a hell of alot faster and wilder.

And you've gotta love Chim-Chim.

EDIT: *hugs* up_all_night. *snif* there is someone else. I knew there'd be another fan out there.

Rachel Getting Married - well what can I say. I found the whole thing quite off centre and confusing. It's about younger sister Kim who has spent years as a drug addict and who is gets out of rehab at the time her sister is getting married.

It's an arthouse movie done in a sort of a documentary style which I found annoying in this because nothing is really explained and I found myself bored by the long sequences such as the speeches at the rehearsal dinner and wedding as well as the loading of the dishwasher competition. The mish mash of cultures, music and themes were meant to mean something I guess but I couldn't work out what the director wanted me to know and understand.

Yes Anne Hathoway does a great job starring but really I was left wondering what it was all about.

LOL, a friend of mine saw Gran Torino on the weekend.

He described it as 'Dirty Harry gets a niceness epiphany'. :)

MILK - an inspirational and great film. What an amazingly driven and courageous man Harvey Milk was. I enjoyed learning about the man and the gay rights movement. Sean Penn is my favourite actor and this is another of his wonderful, wonderful performances. Worthy of an oscar for sure. I am so glad people like Harvey Milk paved the way for the rest of us.

I saw this reviewed on At the Movies. Like David, I'm no fan of the dogma style. I really, really like looking at Anne Hathoway, but not at the expense of a bad film experience.

I finally saw Australia. I liked the style, but the story centering around the Kidman/Jackman droving story was dull. It might have been different having two fresh, unknown actors in their place. But still, the aboriginal actors and their parts resonated with me, though I'm bored of all this stolen generation claptrap. At the end, the young half-caste goes walkabout with his guardian angel grandfather - that is a movie I'd really like to see.

As a fan of Bryan Singer, I also saw Valkyrie. It was okay, but you know how it's going to end, so not much suspense really. Might have been more fun if they ran with an alternate history storyline.

I thought Rachel Getting Married was very good. The documentary style of the film didn't bother me, nor did I question it. It felt more realistic and therefore I felt more invested in the characters and their situations. Great movie.

I saw Gran Tornino today. It was really great and surprisingly emotional at the end.

Yeah it was great. Interesting to see all the actual people (from the movie) in the photos at the end. And Penn is a very useful actor, you might recall him in "Dead Man Walking". I read a few years ago where Penn has made himself rather unpopular with the blokey American right. (I wonder if this new role will help, lol?)

Shite, the cricket just got rained off.
