Anyone into the Harry Potter films? The last one is the only one I haven't seen yet.
But Guillermo Del Toro (director) has again been linked to the final films, as he has with "The Hobbit" - so we can expect a darker vision.
The last Harry Potter movie will in fact be two movies, as will "The Hobbit".
I'm still a little disappointed that Peter Jackson (the second most famous New Zealander) won't be directing "The Hobbit", but apparently he's tied up on other things and doesn't want the fans to wait!
Goldenberry, everything you have there about Harry Potter is for now, rumour and speculation on the fan community's part, not fact.
Now down to business, it was a double entree today... I was bored shitless because I was supposed to be jet setting tonight, but a last minute change of plans altered that, and so my day carried on without anything significant, 'cause everyone thought I was gone already. What's a guy to do? Go to the movies of coarse... and what a brilliant time it was.
First up...
The Kite Runner
What can I say? I LOVED this film through and through. It is certainly not for everyone, but I'm tempted to say very much that this will most probably be my number one movie for the 2007/2008 season, despite loving so many other films from the last year with much adoration, and many upcoming films that are looking to be nothing short of awesome ('There Will Be Blood, The Dark Knight). What sets it apart from other films for me? The fact that it gave me a new understanding of things I couldn't really comprehend before. It is such a BEAUTIFUL, funny, but also frightening film at times; and I came out bawling, as did many others all around me - I think I cried something like 5 times throughout the whole film, it's just... well, I can't put my finger on it.
Lovingly provided by Wikipedia...'It tells the story of Amir, a well-to-do boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, who is haunted by the guilt of betraying his childhood friend Hassan, the son of his father's Hazara servant. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet invasion, the mass exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the Taliban regime.'
Now I know what you might be thinking... this doesn't sound like a movie that would really interest me; I thought the exact same. But then I actually saw the film, and what do you know, it has immediately become one my all time favourites. I don't know if I could watch it again, but it definitely left an impact on me. Just to get an insight into the cruel, harsh world that others only a day or so away are living in... I think that it's important, and it kind of made me realise my own ignorance; and somewhat changed my views on immigration as well.
Yes, the film does contain subtitles, but not all the dialogue is foreign. Don't be an idiot now and throw your hands in the air and say you're not going to see it because it has subtitles; that's just being ignorant. If anything, it hightens the sense that you're entering this completely foreign world, just as the main character Amir is, but in his own country.
I don't know what else to write about it, I really can't describe my thoughts and feelings with words... it's not just a film to
me, it means so much more than that; it's an experience - but it is certainly a top contender for the Oscars, no doubt about it.
The other that I saw, and about time too, was
Juno.
It's hard to describe really. It's almost like this little quirky teen movie, crossed just *slightly* with a romantic comedy. I gotta say, I really did enjoy it, especially as the whole teen comedy thing doesn't really appeal to me. No, but this is different, this is smartly written, witty, and genuine in all its emotion, not so much played out and in your face as they usually are. Actually, I don't know that you could even call this a teen comedy... well it is, but... all I know is that I liked what I saw and so did everyone else. It kept me laughing, and even if just for a moment, have actual feeling toward the main characters, feeling feeling, not 'awww, isn't that sad, let's give 'em a great big hug feeling'.
The cast was great; spot on with the comedy, and I really liked the colour palette of the film too, though I'm sure I'm probably the only one that really makes a point to notice something like that anyway, haha.
Sorry these reviews are kind of 'blah', but I'm feeling 'blah' too at the moment. So much to digest, not just head and heart wise, but also fluid wise - I drank about 10 gallons of water and coke today... I can literally feel the adrenaline in my veins.
