Last movie you saw

I've never seen any of the Scream movies, I think I got them mixed up with the Scary Movie series and had no interest. I do love really scary movies - not gore fests but scary shit.

Recommend?

To be honest no, as they're not really "scary" movies as such. Tense, jumpy, suspenseful, and at times hilarious? yes. *Walking into Reigan's (from the Exorcist) bedroom once she's fully possessed* scary? no.

OMG I can't stand M Night Shamalama and his films. The only film of his that I enjoy is The Sixth Sense

Unbreakable was a pretty good idea.
And Signs was damn good, up until the very end where you either just accept the conclusion as some sort of poetic license, or it destroys the movie for you.
The Village... interesting idea, but for me it was a case of knowing the twist beforehand, so it didn't quite work for me.

Don't go to see Sucker Punch........ Craptasic........

Lovely CGI, that was nice the CGI was all the fighting and running, and jumping, but that only takes like 20 minutes of the film......

I think the thing with Sucker Punch is, it's not a traditional movie.

I think this is what is so off putting for most people. It's really an experimental action/art film.

Trying to do a visual live action video game / comic book. Focusing on the visual aspect of such mediums, deliberately removed from traditional story and film structures.

It was interesting an unusual. I don't think it deserves all the labels of crap because it's not being judged on what it actually is.

Does it work.. well kind of. The issue is, the visuals and the music work to an extent. The fantasy worlds often remove you too much from real world consequences to the actions. So it lacks any impact or sense of danger. If this was better the film as a whole would probably achieve it's aim. Just doesn't quite work. It varies and you do get some fatigue due to the detachment of the action not grabbing you.

I think it'd actually stand up a lot better on a second viewing.

Hmmmm I don't know....The advertising made it look like a totally different kind of film to the one you actually get. That in itself led to some disappointment.

Oooh not long to go and I get my copy of Tron Legacy 3 days to go

well you can't trust advertising, they want to make people go to the film. Apparently the studio didn't know what to make of it when they saw it.

Maybe that will teach them not to give director's free reign.

I think it's a case of, they saw he was one of the writers of the 300 screen play and went, oh cool he's got a writing credit for a successful film. Ignoring the fact that it was about adapting rich source material.

It's like with Sin City. Frank Miller had a credit as a director. Due to a lot of the direction based off his graphic novel.

So then they let him direct a movie and it was the god awful "The Spirit."

That said though, Sucker Punch was meant to be like a live action graphic novel, not a conventional movie. So it's not like he tried to do something normal and failed. He just did an experiment.

Well might hire it on DVD once it gets there.

I wouldn't pay for a movie ticket to see this.

Fast and Furious 5

I really enjoyed this movie.

As far as this franchise goes, I quite enjoyed the first but think over time it lost something. I love the second. It's a total guilty pleasure movie for me. It doesn't take itself seriously and it's lots of fun. With two charismatic leads.

The third Tokyo is really a spin off, and is fine but the weakest of the films.

The Fourth, Fast and Furious which is the first true sequel from the first, having Vin Diesel back is quite good. It follows that story through, is entertaining and yeah I liked.

The latest, Damn it follows right on from that and takes the entertainment and rolls with it. I really was thoroughly entertained by this more than most films. Is it great cinema. No. It just sure is pleasure entertainment cinema for fans of this franchise. For some reason this franchise has grown into one with a great sense of fun. One which is adult with out being serious or taking itself serious or seriously.
What actually is great is, it doens't try too hard with the action. There's probably less and certainly less car action the the previous films but it all is too the benefit of the film.
The central main characters now feature ones from all the franchise except from the main guy from Tokyo Drift are all incredibly likable. It's a pleasure to watch this franchise at this point.
I honestly really can't wait for the next installment which is sure to happen unless this film bombs. Which it won't. I also look forward to the Rock, Dwayne Johnson having a spin off film.
The film gave me a smile right across my face for most of it.
Good entertaining escapist stuff!

It's not for people who haven't seen the previous films.. well, 1,2 & 4.. It's just a great franchise.

Also i should point out, Paul Walker is one of the best underutilized actors in Hollywood. Yes he has a very successful career, but he should be a bigger star than he is.

Monsters on dvd. Very good movie, a photographer is assigned to escort his (very rich) bosses daughter through the infected zone back to the US. The area is infected by aliens - it's really well done. :)

Yeah I wanna see that too, because it wasn't a big budget film at all.... That to me makes it more interesting.

Saw District 9 on Saturday for the first time and don't quite know what to make of it. 2nd half of the film was good, possibly even great but the first 30 minutes or so I kept laughing and I don't think they intended that reaction.

I hope the sequel Christopher comes back to take his people home.... with an army.

Also this film didn't really raise my expectations of humanity.

I loved District 9 - I seldom watch movies more than once but I've seen that one three times. I think you are meant to laugh at the beginning, it makes what comes all that much more dramatic.

They intended it to be amusing. So laughing is fine.

I think they said they probably wouldn't jump straight into him coming back. It' d be different that what you'd initially expect. That'd maybe be for a third film.

Although they are not trying to cash in and take their time before doing a sequel, if they do one at all. So who knows where it'll eventually end up.

There was even talk they'd do a prequel and a sequel. Still it's a while away. The guy that did it is making some big sci-fi movie with Matt Damon. Sharlto's in it as well, as is Jodie Foster.

Ooh Jodie Foster I'm hooked.......What movie is this?

it's called, "Elysium" and is out 2013. One of these completely underwraps movies where nothing much is known about the premise. Something to do with Sci-fi, aliens, another planet and earth. Alien invasion, but not to destroy but to live here with us perhaps. There's a bunch of vague stuff out there.

The issue is, it could go into self indulgent territory like Southland Tales.

Of course give benefit of the doubt. Based on talent like Damon and Foster who work when they want, on what they want. Not always hits but generally so. Neither need to be on this unless they except it to be worth while.

My main issue would be District 9 was a lucky shot. It was based on a short film a concept and to be honest, I bet it filmed while evolving. All as an experiment.

From the behind the scenes stuff, it kind of suggests Sharlto wasn't even going to be the lead or in it. So whole the guy made a brilliant modern sci-fi classic, I am not convinced it was done with the skill and talent to pull it off again. Like they started filming with an idea and let it evolve. Ad lib and so forth.

Jodie Foster irritates me, I think it's the way she talks.

Yeah a lot of people don't warm to her. But if she's in a movie I will generally watch it. Loved her in some of her other movies Contact being my favourite.... Of course I love that film for a whole bunch of reasons, not the least the big debate at the heart of the film of religion vs science..

Haven't yet seen The Brave One.

I had a ball last night. Watched a couple of old movies from the 80s... You have got to laugh at some of the movies that came out during the middle of the 80s because they were all unintentionally funny in some parts.

I watched.

The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension

Spacehunter: Adventures In The Forbidden Zone - Featured a young Molly Ringwald and Michael Ironside as the bad guy.

Ice Pirates which is a sentimental favourite.

So 7pm onwards who needs TV?
