Jade is dyslexic....?

This is so interesting, I never paid attention to the puzzles she put together until now. I love how I can learn something new from reading posts like this. Thanks for this.
Just wanted to add that she is quite articulate when she speaks and forms opinions and ideas. I always thought she had a way of interpreting others.

Yep, it's true. I like stories like this, your brother sounds amazing.

Richard Branson (among other notable people) is dyslexic and was constantly told he was stupid growing up, teachers throught he was "slow" (this is before dyslexia was commonly accessible as a diagnosis, I suppose) and grew up believing wasn't capable of much at all.

It has NOTHING to do with intelligence or capabilities in other fields. (of course, that isn't to say someone with a lower IQ can't be dyslexic).

It sounds like Jade has probably been dealt a similar fate. She wouldn't have excelled in English at school and probably struggled with other subjects due to the reading nature involved and probably concluded that she is stoopid, as evidenced by her constant comments on the show.

I wish she would listen to the other HMs who tell her that she is smart. There are soooo many different types of intelligence anyway.
 
My brother was also acutely colour blind. The school (public) wanted to put him in a learning disability school or something. My mother stormed up there and told them he took a clock apart and put it back together when he was two years old. She demanded they keep him on.

Most of his childhood he thought he had brain damage. Very low self-esteem. Like Jade.

But his maths went ballistic and that's where he rose to the challenge. He uses alot of voice recognition apps these days etc.

He writes maths papers too. Discovered new maths. Freaking hyper genius.

He's just conservative and wanted to marry someone really straight. I dunno. How do you have a mega scientist believe in the shit they believed in when they thought the earth was flat... anyhoo.

So she could barely read and on top of that was working what 40-50 hours/week on top of school to support her mother.

Just love her to bits.

Totally not offended. He's racist, sexist, simplistically cynical... UGH!!

But he will help millions re: dementia. He's a brain specialist, well discovered new anatomy, redefined it regarding vascular pressure.

Anyhoo.

Just wanted to add that one of my nephews is also dyslexic. He was struggling at school (with stratospherically clever brothers doing university maths in primary school just to make it worse) wears special blue sunglasses to read. Since the blue glasses he's been doing wonderfully. Not like his brothers but fuck it that's ok. I wonder if Jade knows about them.

My best friend all through school was dyslexic and she would wear pink sunglasses and use pink paper when reading. It broke my heart seeing people make fun of her but she's just finished a university degree so they obviously help her.

thats awesome. People with amazing brain power and ability intrigue me. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. He is lucky to have found his strength so early on :)

Yes around 40 papers and was conferred an MD a couple of years ago for his contribution to medical science. Primarily sole author but he teams up with other neuros occasionally. When he first qualified, his spatial ability is so fast he was reading MRIs ten times faster than colleagues so the AMA had to negotiate with the hospital so he doesn't have to work so much but he's a hospital director now so.... Productivity thing. He only has to work half the year. Most of the time overseas conferencing.

Acutely dyslexic, extreme colour blindness so couldn't do engineering, which he wanted to do... reading an xray sounded like an easier option for someone like him. He made most of his discoveries in his early twenties. This is common apparently.

I've never met a dyslexic person, or perhaps I just wasn't aware of it. So this entire topic is fascinating to me. Whatever can help improve dyslexia is worth a try. Jade said that it wasn't a specific colour, that a friend of hers could only read of purple paper. For me I just can't imagine how a colour interferes with a persons reading capability. But it obviously does. The way the mind can process things but not other things fascinates me.
