Since 2013, Egypt has been ruled by a military dictatorship under President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

Ball dogs in Brazil, awesome

At the command of their trainer Andrea Beckert, the dogs retrieved the balls with their teeth and ran off the court to their trainer. The unusual initiative was made to promote the adoption of abandoned street animals.

Beckert said the biggest difficulty was to make the animals more confident and playful. 'These are dogs that were mistreated. We have to make them adapt, feel the environment, the court, the noise of the balls and the noise of the people. Some are doing well, others are still a little scared,' she told journalists. The basic commands that the dogs learned were 'pick the ball,' ''let it go,' ''stay' and 'come.'

Kylie Minogue Is Preventing Kylie Jenner From Trademarking Their Name
HuffPost Australia | By Julia Naughton

If you played a game of word association two years ago, chances are when given the name “Kylie” you’d answer “Minogue".

But according to Kylie Jenner, the youngest reality star of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians", the princess of pop should no longer feel so lucky.

Why? Because the 18-year-old doesn't want Minogue -- or anyone else for that matter -- trading off the first name “Kylie”. As in, nobody else can make money off that name except Jenner. Like, EVER.
According to TMZ, in May last year Jenner filed an application to trademark her first name to "entertainment in the nature of providing information by means of a global computer network in the fields of entertainment, fashion and pop culture."

But it seems Minogue is not having it.

According to the Mirror, Minogue has filed a court notice to formally oppose Jenner from trademarking the name “Kylie”, describing Jenner as "a secondary reality television personality who appeared on the television series Keeping Up With the Kardashians as a supporting character."

The “Spinning Around” singer already owns various trademarks including the name “Kylie” as well as the domain name kylie.com.

On Sunday night, the 47-year-old posted to Twitter what we can only describe as a cheeky territory mark.

“Hello..... My name is KYLIE #lightyears," he wrote.

It all seems a bit silly really. And we are certain Kylie Mole, Kylie Kwong and Kylie Gillies would have a lot to say on the matter
.................................................
Go Kylie - love that bold bit

Can people really trademark names? Is it possible to do so? Or is it something that will be laughed out of the courtroom? Just seems so weird to me. And not the good weird.

What I've read is that our Kylie got the domain name Kylie.com the year before the other Kylie was born. As it's the US Patent and Trademark Office who is looking at it, why do I think that it will be granted.

A great case was Chinese violinist Lang Lang's lawyers telling an Australian country town to stop using it's own name. I think they said get bent.

Have you ever considered what will happen in China & India with all of the surplus males?
Huge issue, over populations of males has historically led to = WARS, so much cannon fodder.

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/there-are-more-boys-than-girls/

It's one thing to wish for a boy or a girl when pregnant; but it's something else entirely to take steps to guarantee your wish comes true. Enter China and India, where the ratio of boys to girls is so lopsided that economists project there may be as many as 30 to 40 million more men than women of marriageable age in both countries by 2020.

...................................................................................
http://www.cmfblog.org.uk/2015/02/0...-34-million-more-males-than-females-in-china/

It is hard to comprehend what it would be like living in a society where 1 in every 4 adult men you meet will have never married, and not by choice. The prospect of never finding a life partner can be one of the greatest fears in a person’s life, exacerbated by a culture (like China’s) where there is societal expectation to establish and maintain the family unit. Moreover, it is generally the poorest men (the less ‘marriage-able’) who are disproportionately affected by a marriage squeeze.

Large sex-ratio imbalances could lead to instability as more men remain unmarried, raising the risk of anti-social and violent behaviour.Historically, a surplus of young men can lead to unrest or expansionist foreign policies. Already, China’s crime rate has nearly doubled in the last 20 years.

The presence of ‘excess males’ is also one of the main driving forces behind human trafficking and sexual slavery, not only in China but in surrounding nations as well.
A US Department of State trafficking report says that: ’Women and children from neighboring Asian countries… are reportedly trafficked to China for commercial sexual exploitation and forced laborChinese women and girls are subjected to sex trafficking within China; they are often recruited from rural areas and transported to urban centers. China is also a destination for women and girls, largely from neighboring countries, who are sometimes subjected to forced marriage and forced prostitution upon arrival.’

Sadly, the problems for women do not stop there.

China is the only nation in the world where more women commit suicide than men. It has the highest female suicide rate of any country in the world. According to a US Department of State Human Rights Report, the number of female suicides in China has risen to a staggering 590 per DAY.
China leads, and India follows with a similar gender gap.

Rio Olympics Will Have a Refugee Team
What a brilliant idea. The Rio Olympics will have a team of refugee athletes.

Overnight the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that the official team comprising refugee athletes -- to be known as Team Refugee Olympic Athletes (ROA) -- would compete and be treated like all other teams of the 206 National Olympic Committees.

Team ROA will get its own welcome ceremony at the Olympic Village just like all other teams. It will be housed in purpose-built Olympic village accommodation, just like all the other teams. The IOC will appoint key personnel such a Chef de Mission as well coaches and various technical officials. It will also provide uniforms.

I wonder how many of them will do an illegal bolt for the hills before the end of the Olympics?

The last time Australia had the Commonwealth Games, 22 athletes from lesser Commonwealth nations skipped out on their Visas. Took them months to round them all up again and deport them.

That happens at every games now, olympic & commonwealth, some seek legal refuge too. They should just apply for a scholarship.

Record $286 billion invested in renewable energy in 2015, more than double fossil fuels
ChinaPanels.jpg

In the latest indication that renewable energy sources like solar and wind power are ascendant worldwide, a new report finds that, in 2015, a record-breaking $286 billion was invested in renewable energy capacity worldwide.

This translated into 134 gigawatts of renewable power added worldwide last year, compared to just 87 gigawatts two years ago.

This was more than double the $130 billion that went toward coal and natural gas, according to the data produced by Bloomberg New Energy Finance, the Frankfurt School and the U.N. Environment Program.

The annual report, released Thursday, shows another important milestone was crossed last year: renewable energy capacity investments were focused more on the developing world, particularly China, than in industrialized nations. James Cook University professor Terry Hughes says he flew over 600km of reef and more than 60% was bleached
CeTTnvmWIAAFIBn.jpg

An aerial survey is revealing the worst bleaching ever seen on northern parts of the Great Barrier Reef, as the scientist leading the survey live-tweets the devastation and pleads for the world to take action on climate change.

Bleaching occurs when coral gets stressed, usually by heat, and it expels the colourful algae that live inside it, giving it its brilliant colour and providing it with most of the energy it needs. If it stays bleached for long enough, the corals die and the reefs risk being colonised by other organisms such as seaweed.

This bleaching event is linked to the current El Niño, which raises temperatures in the region, on top of climate change-induced warming. More... http://www.theguardian.com/environment/great-barrier-reef
