Terrorism fears have struck London with Gatwick Airport evacuating it's north terminal.

The UK development comes just hours after Paris was rocked by a ruthless series of terrorist attacks killing at least 150 people.

No official reason has been released for the evacuation. There are unconfirmed reports a man has been arrested after a gun and a hand grenade were found in luggage.

Gatwick is the UK's second largest airport.

BBC London is reporting a "suspect package" is behind the security scare - information the BBC says came through Sussex police.

YAASSSSSSSSSSSS.

I wonder who our act will be. I assume SBS is going to pick them again so fingers crossed they're decent.

The Europeans are most likely irate at this news.

Oh really? It feels like every article on post on the matter has people bitching in comments about 'Since when is Australia in Europe?'.
Ah well, maybe just within the cross section of people I come accross here in Germany. They seemed mildly amused/bemused once I pointed out to them Australia was competing. But I don't know if any of them actually knew beforehand...

You really are and will always be my favourite news reader.

Just missing the days when we used to have a whole subforum dedicated to news and current affairs. It got lively at times, but it kept the forum going during the off-season.

That sounds like a good idea. I do like this thread, but I suppose because the links can vary between the serious and the trivial, and because the links can come quickly it is hard to get a strong narrative, or a 'big picture situation' in regards to ongoing world events.

All pray for Belgium, and cheer the wonderful citizens of that fine country...

Belgian police asked people not to tweet details of their operations hunting the Paris killers,
but they did ask for Twitter users to 'support' the hashtag #BrusselsLockdown.

Defence Minister Steven Vandeput tweeted: 'Police are asking the public not to report their movements on social media, please support & rt #BrusselsLockdown.'

Sooooo, Belgians break twitter with cats on patrol, cats, whatever, I love Belgians.

That is the 355th mass shooting this year in the U.S. and the 2nd deadliest (after Sandy Hook).

I mean, if 20 children being shot dead at Sandy Hook isn't enough to say "Hang on, this gun situation needs to be addressed" then... I just dunno. When children die and it's just accepted and they say "Yeah but guns.. we need dis" i'm not sure what it would take for them to change it, because if children dying doesn't... what will????

The right to bear arms may have been justified (or more justified) back in the colonial days, but as we enter into 2016, the right to bear arms is totally unjustified and the amendment needs to be changed.

Between the trigger happy police over there & how easy it is for anyone to own a gun or multiple guns, the U.S. is a scary place.
