Hi all, this is the first time I've really considered what's in store in the next few months for my viewing pleasure...BB is back. YAY

Just like to say my son-in-law is serving in Afghanistan and as far as I'm concerned he is definitely a hero along with all those that have served in the past, those that currently serve and for all those that will serve in the future. What's that little rush of air you just felt??...ahhhh.... sitting here right now waving my little Aussie flag

I don't necessarily think all soldiers are heroes. I've heard far too many horror stories about the shit that goes down in terms of abuse of power and the sexual harassment of female soldiers etc to think that. I also don't think that those fighting in Afghanistan are "fighting for this country" right now but that's a whole different political issue. I DO think soldiers are incredibly brave and for a lot of them the desire to protect and serve is a noble and genuine one, so I give them (and Matt) the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah.

I don't get why anyone would go into a combat role these days. Well since the Vietnam war onwards, because you're giving your life and offering to take the lives of others on behalf of the government. A government who won't use that responsibility wisely or only when it's needed.

Onto soliders and horror stories. You always will get atrocities. However you get worse when it's a volunteer army. As in not conscription. With conscription armies you get a better cross section of the society. However when it's just people joining, you do get a disproportionately large amount of bad apples compared to the broader society in your army. So you get more problems.

You know that soldiers don't just 'kill people' right...they're there in foreign aid for countries and when natural disasters happen...they aren't just for fighting wars...

The primary function of a countries military is to fight wars.

Just because a Doctor may empty his waste paper basket, doesn't mean he is a garbage man.

Prediction - wont last more than a month, will clash with the teacher Mikkayla and Tully, may exsanguinate Tim, I know I want to.
Update - loved it when Ben totaly got caught checking him out. Matt is the token awesome gorgeous fella, don't think he will last
 
So anyway, earlier in this thread, people were saying Matt didn't strike them as a bogan. Have you changed your minds yet? :D
 
so is he single or taken? i am under the impression he is taken, but in last night's daily show BB lined him up along with other single men in the house. i am confused.

Except more squashed in from the temples....not attractive at all and from what some of the housemates are implying his personality is making him even more unattractive
 
Don't like Matt at all.
Seen a lot like him out there -"one of the boys", very conservative and narrow minded.
Comes across as very cocky and arrogant, as well as considering himself the leader of the cool group.
You could see how surprised he was that ppl nominatd him.

Has a squinty old man face.

I want to like Matt - think he would be a very interesting HM but.......so far the only I get from is he doesn't like when people do to little in the kitchen and he doesn't like it when people do to much in the kitchen. Oh and that he likes Caleb and Tully. Though with Tully I think he is more a fair weather friend - could be wrong. Think he is the type of HM that cruises through to the top 8 or 5 then is booted out :).
