HOT SHOWS, Revenge, Downton Abbey etc

Another recommendation from here in the UK - The Fall, starring Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan. It's two episodes into a five episode run and essentially the story of a serial killer who is married with kids (Dornan) and the investigation into the killings, with Gillina Anderson playing the investigating officer. It's all set in Northern Ireland so has the added dimension of policing in a very politically sensitive area.

I know I'm not really selling it, but it's very good and kind of very matter of fact. It feels quite different to other crime dramas - they've kind of done a good job in grounding the characters so there is nothing sensationalist about it at all.

I'll give it a go, loved your last recommendation Broadchurch.

Glad you and a couple of others here enjoyed Broadchurch - it'll be interesting to see where the second series goes. Hopefully they don't ruin the beauty of the first.

Not really a lot else to offer from this side of the world at the moment - we're at the beginning of the summer lull so most big shows will be held back till the autumn. There is a major new BBC series called The White Queen due on air soon, set against the backdrop of the War of the Roses and with a pretty impressive cast (of people you've probably seen in other historical dramas). The BBC have been plugging it for ages but it still doesn't seem to have an air date.

The last major BBC drama was The Village, set in a village during World War I. It's good, but quite a tough watch - certainly not recommended for the suicidal!

oooooo that sounds interesting, love the title

Does anyone follow the plot in Revenge?

It's too much trouble and has spun into total nutso soap, and that's OK, a good sassy bitchy ridiculous night soap was long overdue.
Go crazier - and keep the frocks and pretty houses coming.

OMG it's a total mess .......... Team Emily is nice and all but the plot's a mess. First series is good but this one. There's a bit of everything in it. Evan a bit of Jamees Bondish stuff with the hidden cameras and stuff.

Yeah, it's why does every character have to have a secret/secret agenda/weird background whatever - keep some of them as just, ordinary extras floating by.

Still have no idea what all the Japanese stuff is about; and no clue where that secret lover of Emily's came from - where did he come from?
Kill a few I reckon.
Vicki's long lost son better be hot and evil:)

I've been watching Revenge but I can't begin to explain anything, it is so involved, each family with its own agendas but each week I tune in, lol!!!

Yep, was a double episode last night. Who cares if it's far fetched it's fantasy magic world, anything can happen.

Like Charming may actually turn out to be the lead singer of Coldplay - and not just look like him.

I love this show:) and it has some damn fine talent, Robert/Rumple/Gold is awesome.

Oh no not complaining, did you not see the smiley face in my post.

I love the evil queen. She's just so evil :)

You mean grannie bitch?
Or baby bitch?

They both like ripping out hearts. Did you see there is a spin off coming soon? About Alice I think.

We need more fun shows like this, totally off the wall imaginative fantastical - shits on reality:)

I mean Regina.

So evil you have to love her. And she's not a granny. She's bloody hot.

Of course she is, all the fairytale women are hot, my favourite is Mulan, oh and Hook is yummy.

Granny bitch is regina's soul-less absolutely evil Mummy dearest - currently torturing poor misunderstood reggie:)

I also got a friend onto Broadchurch and she loved it too.

I am now up to episode 5 season 3 of The Borgias. Liking it a lot although the 1st season was a bit slow. So much sceming and plotting.
Not as graphic as some of the other series I've watched but the poisoning and stabbing in the stomachs is quite nasty.
Love the pope and how everything is we and us with him. Michelletto is quite a hidden star in this show, he is so creepy. Thanks again Brekkie.

I see that the actor who played Juan Borgia is to be in The White Queen also.

I never got into The Tudors, perhaps it's worth another try.

Might have a look at this The Village though.

Spoilers for next season of Downton Abbey. Not big spoilers, mostly predictable stuff but I thought I'd put it in spoiler tags for those who really don't want to read it.

Series four Downton Abbey
On 23 November 2012, ITV announced that a fourth series had been commissioned and that filming would begin in February 2013. The series is set to air in the autumn of 2013 in the UK while there will be a 5 January 2014 airing in the US on PBS.

On ITV, the Downton Abbey official website has released some information about series four. Viewers will find Lady Mary Crawley mourning her husband Matthew Crawley, who died six months earlier in a car crash. Matthew had just visited his wife and new baby son George in hospital, and was returning to see his family when his car overturned, killing the heir to Downton. Viewers will find out whether Lady Mary will find happiness again in the new series of Downton Abbey.

In March 2013, it was announced that new cast members have joined series four: actor Tom Cullen as Lord Anthony Gillingham, an old Crawley family friend whose history with Lady Mary dates back to childhood; actor Nigel Harman as a visiting valet named Green; Dame Harriet Walter as Violet's friend Lady Shackleton; Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, who will play a singing house guest; Joanna David, who will guest star as the Duchess of Yeovil; and Julian Ovenden as the aristocrat Charles Blake.

Returning to the series four in the 2013 Christmas episode will be Shirley MacLaine, who will reprise her role as Cora's mother, Martha Levinson.

There will also be at least three other characters: a nanny for the children, a drunkard named Sir John Bullock, and the show's first black character: jazz musician and singer Jack Ross. Ross, who will ignite some race-related controversy, will be portrayed by Gary Carr.

Actress Siobhan Finneran, who played lady's maid Sarah O'Brien, will not be returning in series four. A rep for the ITV series has confirmed the departure, but said that the character would not be killed off and could potentially return in the future.

I really enjoyed Broadchurch too. Not my usual kind of series but it really sucked me in. I really only started watching it because David Tennant was in it but it was an excellent story line. A good piece of writing and lots of good acting from the whole cast.
