Oh that's pretty interesting. Education is the most amazing thing, being able to educate people who see it as the privilege it is (i.e., adults, children in developing countries) would be really rewarding I imagine.

I'm actually dusting off my teaching degree this year I think, I'm a bit scared though - it's so long since I've been in a classroom!
Ooh that's exciting! Good luck with that :)

In a way, but I have taken on a part time role teaching ESL to adults and looking into starting up a community homework club to help struggling kids. Unfortunately there's not really enough money in that (if any) to be the only way I live.
Once I have competed the Cert IV I might look into running teacher training or something on the side.

One day I would love to go on mission and help the staff and students of schools. Probably in the islands (so perhaps Tonga or Fiji etc.), but could even be somewhere in Africa. Don't know exactly what the future holds, but pretty excited :) all of this stuff now, along with my teaching experience will all come in handy for work such as this.
Oh that's awesome. Such a rewarding experience. I did some missionary musing work in India years ago.

See, just because some do not believe in God, there is something kinda wonderful by the love given, from the energy created by the belief xxxx

Hats of to you - that is amazing to do that xxxxxx

I have some friends who did some nursing and teaching work in Nepal and they absolutely loved the area and regions, but most of all the people, and would go back I think.

For me, my desires and goals changed after a trip to Tonga in 2013. We went to a small island, into a small community and helped out in a school. The major thing we conducted was some teacher training which was very well received. In fact it was transformational for this little school who had not really received any in servicing, ever, I believe.
The following year was the first year that they had their whole Year 12 equivalent cohort make it all the way to the exams and for the first time, every child 'passed'.

We provided the school with a new bank of PCs with Internet access which opened up a world of information for the students, but, more importantly, we helped the teachers change their models of teaching by challenging pedagogy and encouraging them to be more students focussed. They were still very much teacher-centred as the missionaries of hundreds of years ago had taught them.

So much change in one little school that the director of education started sending teachers from the main island and other islands to visit the school to see what the teachers were doing differently in that school to bring back to their own school.

We spent three weeks with them, I fell in love with the people and the culture, and it helped me to see how much of a positive impact I could have. I still keep in contact with some of the staff.

And whether it is about pushing religion or is it so, it is ABOUT caring about others. Just caring about others. If they get your message - if you have one or not - who cares? Sometimes, life just gives you something to believe in, even if you don't have the backup
Science Education etc to make the way ......... WHO KNOWS what is Right and what is Wrong and what you believe is right and you are wrong and whatever LOL

Hey, if you are able to go and share any form of Education to places like this, the world will be so much happier :)
Most of the times I have seen and heard of Missionary Support, there has been no real mention of bible bashing etc, but love given :)

There has never been, you must love God or you will not get this meal ......... Starving kids etc - I am not sure if I am getting my message across, in my dumb way that I have been portayed here
- anyway :(

Just Sharing and Giving with no selfish ways is Just so Awesome xxxxx

Good for you!

I am really hoping to do some nursing missionary work in Papua New Guninea at some point.

I work with a nurse who spent 3 years there, and her stories seriously inspire.

Good moaning OT thread!

My broken hearted son came home yesterday with his car boot packed (ruined by days plans, though to be fair it is not the first time I have dropped everything for him, nor will it be the last...).

Nothing upsets me more than seeing my son sad.

Oh dear. Nothing like being with your mum when things aren't looking good. He's going to be staying for a while?

He is meant to be coming back home to weigh up his options, but after the hours he spent talking to his gf last night, I think he might be going back.

That's great if he can work things out! Whatever will make him happiest is best, umm well obviously.

Oh hope your boy is ok. And yes some missionary work is very rewarding and inspiring. Though sad as well. I know I came home after my stint and thought how lucky I am.

Second night with my son back home. Sadly for me, I think he is going to go back to his gf. While I treat her with love and kindness, watching the way she treats my son is heartbreaking for me. Unfortunately it is his lesson to learn. As his mum I have to embrace who he chooses, keep my mouth shut and catch him when he falls.

I was thinking about it last night. He has had a long term gf since he was 17. There have been three so far, and he has maybe 2-3 weeks break between each. I wish he would be on his own for a bit.

Oh you are a good mum, agree, he probably does need to be on his own for awhile. He sounds like a kind hearted boy, unfortunately they can be trod on by people. Hope he works through it. He's a lucky boy to have a mum there for him, it would be heartbreaking watching him go through this xx

Thanks Gracie.

He really is a beautiful boy. I actually think I picked up the wrong baby.

He managed the situation really well. I am so proud of him. He has decided to give his relationship another go. She is actually a lovely girl when she is good, but when she is bad she is a demon.

She is not who I would have chosen for him, but it's not about me.

But bringing back to me, with a 1, 2, 3 - best sleep ever last night!

Good Moanin OT thread!

I have exciting news! After pondering and planning my New Year's Resolutions for exactly 31 days, I have decided that today is when I start to action them!!

Enjoy your Monday!

I feel like Feb 1 is way more realistic anyway.

I was coerced into a semblance of exertion this morning so maybe it really is the day for new beginnings.

What are you actioning today??
