There doesn't seem to be the usual amount of traffic on the roads this morning from what I can or rather can't hear.
You look really happy in your updated pic!

You're starting to selfie like a Kardashian!

:)

Thankyou. This was taken by the eyebrow in the pic with me so technically it's her selfie, cropped but not shopped. It was at my birthday dinner on Tuesday. The previous picture was a selfie as are almost all of my profile pics on fb, so I'm adept at them.

It would be nice to have a long weekend option with my partner though. Sometimes I feel I would be happy to pay not to go. And keep in mind we have to work two weekends a month too.

While the money is nice, I do lose out in making memories.

Oh yeah totally, I may have been showing my materialistic side there because that is some awesome money, but for sure if it was the only time off together I would much rather pass on the paycheck.

I've literally never once received a penalty rate in my life. I've either had the day off with normal pay, or being self employed as I am now I have a lot of freedom with my hours which is amazing but it means public holidays as a concept don't exist for me which can annoying at times.

I know the feeling. I quite often consult to other organisations so while they all talk about how much they are looking forward to the day off, I just think it is a day I would get paid for if it wasn't there. Especially as my partner was a shift worker so often didn't have the day off so we wouldn't be doing anything celebratory anyway.

Yep, annoying hey. My choices usually are take the day off and not get paid or occasionally to work but at my regular rate. My partner thankfully has better hours now but a previous role saw her working on average 70 hours a week with no public holidays off so it wasn't like the former was overwhelmingly appealing, but neither is the latter really.

OI! OI! OI! although I really just feel like going back to bed ... this overcast start to the dsy is uninspiring!

Good Moanin OT thread!

AUSSIE! AUSSIE! AUSSIE!
How was your day at work? I don't mind working the public holidays, but it does screw up family time. My nieces swam in a race in the harbour today. The 14 year old did 2 km swim in the ocean, came 7th. The 12 year old did 750 m in ocean, came third. Great day.

Easy.

No Dr's rounds no deteriorating patients and a fabulous AIN made my day easy peasy. The NUM sent us home after handover, so I got an early finish to boot.

Sounds like a great day :)

Have a silly single day off today. I already have it planned. I am going to clean my house, head to the Plaza, then it's CBB time!!

Good for you!

Are you back to full time work?

And good Moanin OT thread!!!!!

Nah only part time for me this year, well for as long as I'm studying. I've enrolled in Cert IV in Training and Assessing. After that I'll decide what's next for me :)

Oh that's cool - what's your plan after that? Well I know you said you'll decide after, but is there a rough direction you want to go in?

Oh r u leaving teaching?

In a way, but I have taken on a part time role teaching ESL to adults and looking into starting up a community homework club to help struggling kids. Unfortunately there's not really enough money in that (if any) to be the only way I live.
Once I have competed the Cert IV I might look into running teacher training or something on the side.

One day I would love to go on mission and help the staff and students of schools. Probably in the islands (so perhaps Tonga or Fiji etc.), but could even be somewhere in Africa. Don't know exactly what the future holds, but pretty excited :) all of this stuff now, along with my teaching experience will all come in handy for work such as this.

Oh that's pretty interesting. Education is the most amazing thing, being able to educate people who see it as the privilege it is (i.e., adults, children in developing countries) would be really rewarding I imagine.

I'm actually dusting off my teaching degree this year I think, I'm a bit scared though - it's so long since I've been in a classroom!
