another tour of the TARDIS

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-24957282

I think it may take me a year to get through all the glorious Whoness out there, it just keeps coming, and coming and - I plan on wallpapering the lavatory walls with Doctor love:)
Starting with your artwork -
did you ever get into Richard Scarry and Busy Town? Your 11 Doctors reminds me of his work a little.

...hahahaha!... that is fantastic kxk!... what a brilliant idea!... when you have all of that Dr Who stuff on the wall I wonder if the toilet will look bigger on the inside than it is on the outside?... lol!... sorry... I couldn't resist that one!... lol!... cheers.

LOL
stickyfingers it's going to take me all day to catch up with all the latest goodies you posted

And OMG it's Doctor heaven, he's everywhere, so much stuff - I went to facebook, oh good lord, more stuff...........

It's only 4 more days!, Well 5 if you count today.

Hide was so awesome.
Re-watching some episodes, I missed a lot.
I have been ill and the medications - well I drifted off more than I realised watching stuff over the past 12 months.

That guy trying to get DW to film in Oz is an idiot, producers have already said it's way too costly to fly everything here for no real gain - they have an avid fanbase here, have done forever.
So they do USA to promote the show, that needs no promotion here at all - fanbase is solid, huge and still growing.

Ooo you know what would be cool? They should get a royal to do a cameo, Harry!
Or the Queen she could knight the doctor - and she has already done a Bond thing so.............

I can't wait for the weekend, I especially want to see how/who plays Verity. And I do hope we get the specials on each doctor they are producing, and that afterparty.

...lol!... I thought that you'd be pleased... you said in your other post about Verity Lambert... what a great lady... if it weren't for her we probably wouldn't have anything at all now as far as Dr Who is concerned... it was good to see her in that video of the three Doctors interview that I put up earlier...

...it would be so awesome to see Prince Harry in an episode of Dr Who for sure!... I think that he would do really well to be honest... he's got devilment in him that boy lol!...

...by the way... I just so love Catherine Tate as Donna Noble... she's my most favourite companion of all time with Billie Piper a close second...

...guess who this is?... cheers.

Tuesday, 19 November, 2013 - Reported by Chuck Foster

Australian broadcaster ABC have announced a special "pop-up" radio channel dedicated to Doctor Who for its 50th Anniversary celebration, which will run throughout the day on Sunday 24th November 2013.

So the Whovians of ABC Radio are creating a dedicated pop-up station, with nothing but Doctor Who 24 hours a day.

It will kick off straight after The Day of the Doctor with talkback to find out what the wider Whovian community thought of the TV special.

This will be followed by interviews, profiles, panel discussions plus Dr Who inspired comedy and music. There will be contributions from fourteen year-old Benjamin Maio Mackay, of the Preachrs podcast; 'The Women of Dr Who', a panel discussion featuring Tansy Rayner Roberts; and two academics from Bond University will explore the cultural impact of Dr Who.

Dr Who on ABC Extra is brought to you by Joel Rheinberger and Andrew Hogan, of Nerdzilla, with help from the ABC wide network of Dr Who fans including Spencer Howson, Robbie Buck, Rodd Quinn, Cassie McCullagh, Nicole Dyer, Damien Larkins and Paul McIntyre.

Matt Smith's 'Doctor Who' exit was brutal, says Jenna Coleman
Published Wednesday, Nov 20 2013, 12:16am EST | By Morgan Jeffery |

Matt Smith's Doctor Who exit felt "brutal" and "traumatic", his co-star Jenna Coleman has admitted.

The actress spoke about filming Smith's regeneration scene and Peter Capaldi's arrival as the 12th Doctor on ITV's Daybreak this morning (November 19).

"I knew it was going to be sad, but it was really traumatic," Coleman said. "It was very emotional and overwhelming."

The 27-year-old added that "the nature" of Doctor Who - with the show's ever-changing cast - means that filming on the series can be "so brutal".

"It's a strange thing [but] it's the nature of the show," she conceded.

"Matt leaves, Peter arrives in his costume and the scene carries on. You just keep going - that's the show."

Doctor Who's 50th anniversary special 'The Day of the Doctor' airs on Saturday (November 23) at 7.50pm on BBC One. It will also be simulcast worldwide, and screened in cinemas around the globe.

A World Without Doctor Who

Published November 19, 2013

Guest contributor Philip Cole ponders the unthinkable.

doctor-who-an-unearthly-child-a.jpg

The TARDIS purred and groaned once more, the shadowy police box pitching down in Totter’s Lane again. Ian and Barbara stepped out and bid Susan farewell. The Doctor, the young girl’s grandfather grumbled his thanks before he returned to his ship with Susan. Within a few seconds the TARDIS had vanished and Ian and Barbara began the walk home.

What if, I ask. What if this had been the ending to An Unearthly Child (remembered only as 100,000 BC), the lone pilot to Doctor Who. A show we love and cherish forgotten over the years, occasionally making an appearance in the form of a retrospective article fondly remembering it. What if there was no first anniversary, let alone a fiftieth anniversary, what if Doctor Who was consigned to oblivion? Wiped by the BBC during the time when they were impetuously tossing rolls of film onto a bonfire, Doctor Who would go on to become something of a myth.

William Hartnell would become less of a household name and more an actor who our older generation only eulogize for his participation in The Army Game and This Sporting Life. Hartnell’s co-star William Russell would only be Sir Lancelot (of The Adventures of Sir Lancelot), not Ian Chesterton, and Jacqueline Hill would just have been a moderately well-known thespian. Moreover Carole Ann Ford wouldn’t be nearly as famous as she is today. Doctor Who did so much for so many people (contrary to Ford’s claims that the show ruined her career) and without it – and I don’t want to overhype the show – I don’t think Britain today would be the same.

The police box outside Earl’s Court underground station would be just that, nothing significant, not the background for someone’s profile photo, just a disused police box. The TARDIS would be a figment of the past and the Doctor – or Dr. Who – simply forgotten. Imagine a world without Doctor Who, just imagine it.

This article wouldn’t exist (I’ll abstain from that timey-wimey area), the comments wouldn’t exist – we would all be worshipping some other show launched by the BBC. Merlin? Atlantis (a particularly chilling thought)? What? We wouldn’t be watching Sherlock because it wouldn’t exist either – in Turn Left fashion, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat may not have met and developed such a bosom friendship – nor would a show like Elementary in America. It’s the ripple effect; drop a stone in the centre of the lake and it’s not just that area that changes, it’s the entire lake. Where would we be today? Would we be the same people? I shiver at the thought.

I fear that my life would be a pale shadow of what it is now if it wasn’t for Doctor Who. Those ‘non-fans’ could contest and say there’d just be a black hole in scheduling (probably filled by some ghastly talent show) but, really, everyone reading this sentence’s lives would change. And probably not for the better.

William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston - probably not David Tennant – and Matt Smith would not be as famous as they are today. They wouldn’t be the Doctors. That gallant band of men united because of one character we all love would just be a group of separate, completely unconnected actors.

So thank God for Doctor Who.

How Likely is an Eighth Doctor Spin-off?
Published November 18, 2013

Guest contributor Henry de Ferrar shares some views on the possibility of Paul McGann spin-off.

mcgann-night-regen-potion.jpg

After Paul McGann recently reprised his role as the Eighth Doctor, the comments on this site have been packed with demands for the Eighth Doctor to be given even more screen time – whether that be another appearance in an episode or even a spin-off series just for him. This would be the first time a Doctor has had his own personal series alongside the main run of Doctor Who, and it would be a major event for the show if it was to happen. However, is it likely to happen? I’m going to look at how possible this spin-off could be, by drawing points from both the fictional side of things, and the non-fictional side.

The Fictional Argument

Possibly the first thing that springs to the mind of a quizzical fan is, in terms of stories, how would this spin-off work? When would it be set throughout the Eighth Doctor’s lifetime? Would the stories be set in a series-wide arc similar to Torchwood’s Children of Earth and Miracle Day, or would it be similar to the way the series are at the moment?

In my opinion, a series-wide arc seems far more likely. I saw someone suggest that the Eighth Doctor could be in exile in Victorian London and meet the Paternoster Gang, or he could be fighting an alien force on earth over the space of a few episodes. It would work perfectly – there would be no need to worry about interfering with canon set already in the series since the revival, as the arc could operate perfectly well without the Doctor having to meet the Daleks or another enemy.

If it was to be a five episode series similar to Children of Earth, it would be left open to it being a single outing for the Eighth Doctor. Some will see that as a good thing, some will see it as a bad thing. Personally, I see it as a good thing; there is no need for there to be a 13-episode, Sarah Jane Adventures-esque spin-off. Make it something worth watching, and make it something worth savouring. We already have a series of Doctor Who each year (or a half series at the moment), the potential spin-off shouldn’t steal the limelight from it. It should be a special event – it could have been a 50th Anniversary event – and that should be respected. I feel that Doctor Who needs to be rationed, and that it needs to be savoured.

The Non-Fictional Argument

This is the slightly more disappointing part of the article. I’m going to look, realistically, at how possible this spin-off is in terms of how the BBC might see it. Is it likely to be a success? Is it likely to be easy to orchestrate? It is going to be easy to promote? I’m going to weigh this all up and try to reach a realistic conclusion.

Firstly, we have to realise that the BBC are already putting time and effort into a series of Doctor Who each year. To take on another series would require hiring new staff (assuming that The Moff is already too busy doing the main series), it would require new marketing, and of course they would consider if they could be more successful with a different spin-off.

For example, a Paternoster Gang spin-off seems far more viable and easier to produce. It could be aimed at kids, and gives them a way to link up the series that they watch on Saturday nights and CBBC. I doubt a huge number of them know and realise who the Eighth Doctor is, and how much of a big deal this series would be. On the other hand, they would be far more aware of the Paternoster Gang and they would appreciate the series.

The fact that Doctor Who has gained so many fans since the relaunch, rather than before the cancellation, also poses a problem. Another Eighth Doctor series would just confuse people. I already had one friend who didn’t know what was going on in Night of the Doctor – yes, we all know that it’s Paul McGann, but the casual viewer doesn’t. They would be completely and utterly confused; how are Paul McGann and Peter Capaldi the Doctor at the same time? How is this Paul McGann show linked in with the Peter Capaldi show? There’s a reason that prequels to TV shows are never broadcast the same time as the main series.

Conclusion

I think the whole reason that Night of the Doctor was made a webisode in the first place shows how unlikely a spin-off is. If Moffat expected people to appreciate McGann’s appearance for what it really was, it’s possible that it might have made its way into the pre-credits sequence of The Day of the Doctor. However, it’s evident that Night of the Doctor was just a treat for the fans. My respect for Moffat for taking the effort to make that episode is immense; we were asking for Paul McGann, and we got him (and an explanation for Hurt’s Doctor). We should be grateful for that, and not go asking for too much – a problem that’s lasted 17 years has been resolved, surely that’s good enough for us?

Moffat Wants to Ensure 100th anniversary
Published October 2, 2013

doctor-his-lives-and-times-300x381.jpg

Steven Moffat has explained why The Day of the Doctor will be more than just a “parade of the greatest hits” and how he hopes to ensure the show stays alive for the next 50 years.

In an extract from The Doctor: His Lives And Times [Via], Moffat says: “You’re going to get every kind of retrospective in the world when it comes to the 50th and you’re not going to be short. To make this show just a walk-down, just a tribute to the past, a backward glance, would be like one of those end of year shows: ‘That was the year that was! Look back and feel slightly old and sad.’ Don’t do that! Of course it’s a celebration of the legend of Doctor Who, but more importantly it’s ensuring there’s going to be a 100th anniversary.

He adds: “It’s a hugely important story to the Doctor. That was my mission statement. Very, very rarely in Doctor Who does a story matter to him very much at all. Obviously he runs around, defeats mutants, meets a space badger, saves a civilisation, causes epiphanies to happen to everyone he meets, rushes back to the TARDIS and forgets everything about it. If you asked him he might have a vague memory of the badger, and that’s it.

“My intent was to move it forward, to have a show that’s equally about the next fifty years of Doctor Who. Attaching the word fifty to anything… I almost tried to rip the logo off saying ‘Why is that good?! That show you’re watching is really old!’ Why is that a good thing to say? It’s about proving we’ve got many, many more stories to tell, and in a way, being able to say the story really starts here. People ask me how am I going to please the regular audience and I say I’m actually on a recruitment drive to get the people who’ve never watched it before to watch Doctor Who. That’s what matters. There are some people out there who’ve never watched it before, God help them. You want them to think, ‘Oh I’ve been missing out, I’m going to join in now.’

“If you’re going to celebrate Doctor Who, you’re celebrating the Doctor – well, why not tell his story? What’s it like for him? What’s it like being him, what defines him, what defines what he is? How do you make that might moment in his life? What would be the Doctor’s most important day, what would be the show that would change him as a person for ever, alter the course of his life?

“That’s what’s big enough to do for the 50th, rather than just a parade of the greatest hits. Never mind that space badger one; this is the adventure that he really remembers, and thinks, ‘That was the day everything changed."

...wow... another 50 years of Dr Who... it makes me want to live until I'm 110 now!... lol!... cheers.

McGann & Colin Baker on Minisode, Regeneration Limit
Published November 18, 2013

Paul McGann has spoken about returning for The Night of the Doctor and gave some thoughts on the regeneration limit now that another one has been used up.

Asked if he thought it meant the end was nigh for Doctor Who, he told Flicks and the City: “Are you crazy!? They’ll simply move the goal posts.”

McGann also talks about spoiler leaks and how hard it was to keep the mini episode a secret, how he’s definitely not in the 50th Anniversary special, the audios being part of the Doctor Who canon, his thoughts on his new costume, his future plans and more.

Matt has a wonderful face, it's so sensitive and tragic at times...........I found him difficult to follow 1st series, his speech patterns and rapid delivery left me a bit lost.
Then I got used to his rhythm, or something. 2nd viewing he is pretty astounding, and deep.

The 3 Doctors I love the most, I can't choose between and don't have to, they have different parts of my heart.
Peter is dashing, 1st love, and a life-long love, I love everything he's ever done. He is a lovely man and a wonderful actor.
David Tennant, is my adult love, and I love him like a wizard romeo.
Such a magical ride we went on with him, the Wilfred/Catherine Tate/David parts are just sublime.
Matt, kind of breaks my heart, I want to protect him, and it seems like only yesterday he arrived. I guess I love him like my child more.

3 days - I can't wait.
And I read that McGann maybe spinoff last night too, interesting.
I feel sorry for people that haven't discovered DW, this is so much fun:)

Thanks for all the links Mr Sticky. Doctor Who is everywhere at the moment, it's fantastic.

Particularly love the clip of the Doctor & Clara with the flashback to his past, I can't believe how much extra stuff they are filming that all looks good enough to be in the actual episode.

A Paul McGann spin off would be fantastic too.

That "His Life & Times" book is on my xmas list.

Oh no not me, I don't want to be spoiled, I want to be hit by amazing, fabulous, surprises:):):)and just revel in it all - a few times.

I haven't had a chance to even peek at all the latest goodies you posted Sticky. Any spare time I have I try to watch some of the glut of DW stuff on the ABC that will vanish, I didn't realise until just recently all the old series they are putting on iview, and crap some of them are about to expire. The McGann movie is there now, 54 days left to watch that at least.

News item

David and Matt will appear together on Graeme Norton, squeeeeee. 22/11/13, that is just before the big day.
Emma Thompson is the other guest, and she had better shut up - no I do like her but she can wank on a bit, shit they should have had a companion.

This thing is so big, so exciting, I'm not kidding when I say I almost expect a cameo from a royal, or anyone could pop in.
