Doctor Who

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet but if it has sorry - In this weeks TV Week they mentioned that David Tennant may be moving on from the role of "Dr Who". Seems he has committed himself to starring in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production "Hamlet" which means Dr Who would have to be postponed until 2010.

Yeah, this has already been reported. What they are doing actually suggests David Tennant will be staying for a couple years yet as they seem to be working the show around Tennant. They will shoot a full fourth season with Tennant at the helm and then in 2009, there will be no fifth season; instead we will be treated to three feature-length specials throughout the year to be followed by a full fifth season in 2010. Nothing has been said as to whether or not Tennant will be in all three specials nor whether he will even be the current incarnation after the fourth season finale but it seems as if he is sticking around if they are, as it would appear, altering their production schedule to allow for Tennant to take up his stage role.

Don't know if anyone else posted this but got this via the internet

Doctor Who to return for fifth series in 2010

David Tennant to return to the Tardis

After months of media speculation, BBC One can confirm that the
Bafta-award winning Doctor Who will return for a fifth series in
spring 2010.

Viewers are in for a treat this Christmas, as a special episode starring
David Tennant and Kylie Minogue will be broadcast on BBC One in
December 2007. Series four, which went into production in July 2007, will
hit UK screens in spring 2008 with a special episode for Christmas 2008.

In 2009, Doctor Who will return with three specials starring David
Tennant, with Head Writer, Russell T Davies. The full length fifth
series will transmit in 2010.

Jane Tranter, Controller, BBC Fiction, says: "Doctor Who is one of the
BBC's best loved and most successful dramas. Its journey over the past
three series has been one of the most ambitious and exciting that we
have had, and I'm delighted to be able to confirm not only three exciting
specials for 2009, but a fifth series in 2010."

Menna Richards, Controller, BBC Wales, says: "The success of Doctor
Who is a fantastic tribute to the dedication and expertise of the
production team at BBC Wales who have worked on the project from the
outset. This announcement is marvelous news for all involved, and
more importantly for the program's amazing fan base and audience. BBC
Wales is looking forward to producing the fifth series."

Following the critically acclaimed season three finale, the BBC has
announced that Catherine Tate is set to return to the Tardis for the
complete 13-week run of series four of Doctor Who, reprising her role as
Donna from the 2006 Christmas special. Freema Agyeman, who won
praise for her portrayal of Martha Jones in series three, is also set to
return mid series four.

The latest DWM interviews Catherine Tate and she assures us that Donna's relationship with the Doctor will not be romantic. Praise the lord!

Of course that is the whole point of Tate to cut the romance for a second or 2, we need a buffer and Martha was going there too soon after Rose.

We watched a bit of Who last night and it was so cool, 13 year old boy began to rave "that actor is so good, he's amazing the Doc Who guy, he's just so good at acting" ( he never says stuff like that), and I watched David Tennant's confidential about how everyone working on the show was influenced in their career/dreams/ambition by DW as a child...............

Only 2 more sleeps :)

Thank goodness David Tennant has now been confirmed for the fifth season. I would absolutely love to see him break Tom Baker's record as the actor playing the Doctor for the longest time because I can't get enough of Tennant as the Doctor.

Now my wishlist for season four, the specials and season five is much simpler. I'm not asking for any great returns of classic Who villains. I am not asking for the return of past companions. I am not asking for previous incarnations of the Doctor (although I seem to remember reading somewhere Peter Davison is returning for this year's Children in Need special, no?) but rather, I have quite a simple wishlist.

I want the Doctor to be able to travel happily with his female companion and not have he fall in love with him. I adored Rose and I liked Martha but the romantic desires were unnecessary. Apparently, as stated above, Catherine Tate as said in an interview Donna will not fall in love with the Doctor. This is one of three taken care of.

The second one is for us to receive a full-time male companion. It doesn't always need to be the Doctor and a female companion. Jamie and Jack have been two extremely popular companions so why can't we have it again? If not for Torchwood, I would want Jack to return fulltime but obviously circumstances are different with him. I enjoyed the extremely breif period Mickey travelled with the Doctor and I was delighted for Adam to join the group but was rather disappointed to see him ousted the very next episode.

Last, but certainly not least is my third wish. We know Martha Jones is going to do a brief crossover stint on Torchwood during its second season. I want a crossover going the other way. Ultimately I would like either Ianto Jones or Gwen Cooper to go over and spend a little while with the Doctor although Owen Harper would be an interesting choice too, regardless of my dislike for him. Perhaps when Martha returns to the Doctor in the fourth season, she could temporarily bring one of the Torchwood team with her? If it's Ianto, that could also be my fulltime male companion, although I would prefer him to stay on Torchwood.

They may be unlikely, I'll admit. Still, at least I'm not being completely unreasonable with my requests.

Good ideas hankyspanky, I'd be happy with any of your suggestions. Ianto & Martha would be a good combination, but I'd be wary of a romantic relationship forming... She could be his type (similar to Lisa the Cyberwoman).

hmmmm I see no confirmation regarding Tennant for the fifth season.

There isn't anything new there, we knew about the full 2008 season, the three specials for 2009, all of which Tennant is scheduled for, but there's never been any mention of who's got the role for the 2010 (fifth) season.

And apparently in a recent interview Billie Piper avoided questions about a return for Rose ... interesting ...

Thank goodness David Tennant has now been confirmed for the fifth season.

I generally am pretty well informed about Who and I certainly haven't seen any confirmation. I wish they would as I wouldn't be so annoyed about 2009 if I knew there was a point.

You're quite right. I read the first two lines and got carried away, connecting them when perhaps there was no connection to make. Argh, I added two and two and got five!

I was under the impression the break in 2009 isn't to keep David Tennant happy, it is to keep Russell T. Davies and the rest of the production team on board.

Weren't there rumours that RTD was going to quit as Executive Producer because making Doctor Who is so time consuming, hence the BBC deciding to lighten the workload in 2009?

Or perhaps it serves to do both.

Yeah well they sure have a lot to manage as the Dr Who franchise is exploding it's so loved and popular, people can't get enough of anything to do with it.
We now have NuWho, torchwood, sarah jane, k-9, confidentials - and they still produce the books, cds etc.
I just went to the library for some Who stuff, and just about everything is out or reserved.

Last of the Time Lords

At last ! It is Saturday and in a few hours I finally get to watch the season finale. Man...I'm gonna miss my weekly WHO fix.

I've been counting down the days, the hours, it's so exciting - I've seen clips and it looks fantastic.
Got wine/snacks and plenty of doc who dvds for after :) I can't wait:)

So you liked it then? ;)

I didn't watch it tonight, but I've seen it twice & I'll watch the series 3 boxset when I get it.

Because this episode seriously sucked and you need to see some decent episodes again?

I mean come on ... time reversal ... what a great way to get out of the cow dung. :(

Yes Burn...there were some serious flaws.....the homonculus Doctor, for example...and the tragic Human/spheres scenario...completely improbable....but the end bit MORE than made up for it :D

The Face of ucking BO???????

Now that was serious :D

It wasn't perfect, but I did really enjoy it, particularly Martha's storyline. Wasn't overly fond of the Doctorhobbit.
