I just caught episode 3.
Sorry to hear you have reservations Mr S. I absolutely loved it.
As a series aimed largely at kids, it's startling how 'adult' it is.

PS. What's wrong with the Sarah Jane Adventures?

...oh really?... it's aimed towards kids and not adults?... with Charlie and Matteausz (thanks for the spelling my friend) 'making whoopee' in bed together and with so much blood and gore in it that surprises me that it is being made for kids... it has so many 'adult viewing attributes' about it...to me it is nearly as 'gritty' as Torchwood with showing the 'coach' with the dragon tattoo walking fully naked from behind (with a hint of nutsack showing) in the shower scene after killing someone... I'm surprised that it's being made more for the kiddies... I never knew that!...colour me surprised!...

...haha!... I thought that my post may have come across as a bit harsh in parts and it possibly did because to be honest I would've preferred to have seen Doctor Who this year rather than Class to be honest so subconsciously perhaps I was sulking when I watched these first 3 episodes and was still annoyed that they completely canned Doctor Who this year entirely... (with the exception of the impending Xmas show of course) they had absolutely no right whatsoever to do that to us as far as I'm concerned... and I totally blame The Moff for it too...

...unlike when he took over from Russell T Davies and just got stuck straight into it he wanted a distinct year long break in the show to say to all of us... "this is the end of the 'golden age' of Doctor Who because I was in charge and am not now and anything that happens now is pure crap now that I'm gone" type of statement as far as I'm concerned... he was being such a selfish self absorbed diva as far as I'm concerned... good riddance to him I say...

...but I digress my friend... I do think that Class is a really good show... but not great as Doctor Who is and that Torchwood was that's all... it does have room for improvement in my eyes though and I have no doubt that it will... it's still a tad bit rough around the edges methinks... but yeah... I really would've been happier if they gave us a series of Doctor Who rather than Class so perhaps I was wearing my 'grumpy pants' with my reviews but I do put the blame for that fairly and squarely on the shoulders of The Moff for that too lol!...

...I'm sure that it'll improve and I think that once the cast and production have a few more episodes under their belts and have 'settled in' they will have production and values on equal par with Doctor Who/Torchwood and The Sarah Jayne Adventures... speaking of which... with The Sarah Jayne Adventures... that was aimed at purely the kiddies... I didn't begrudge that... in fact it was a great bonus to all Whovians around the world as far as I'm concerned and I was really happy that they rewarded Elisabeth Sladen with her own show... she so deserved it with such a vast contribution to the Doctor Who universe as his most well known companion up until that time...

...apart from it's sometimes dubious special effects at times it was just a tad bit too 'campy' for me... and I've always disliked K9... ever since he was first introduced into Doctor Who all those many years ago and always hoped that he would be taken to the dog pound and would be put down... (confession time:redface::shy::)) and when Elisabeth Sladen and K9 starred in that Dr Who episode with David Tennant and K9 got blown up I was so overjoyed and did an air fist and screamed out "yeeeessssssssssssss!... at last!"... lol!... pathetic I know but I was so happy!... sadly... The Doctor rebuilt him for Sarah Jayne right at the end of the show and I was gutted!... lol!...

...I didn't hate the show... I just didn't warm to it that's all... unlike Torchwood...that show was just sheer brilliance with it's entertainment value... I loved it!... so there you have it my friend lol!... cheers.

K9 was awful. I mean I give old doctor who some leeway due to its budget issues and context. However even I have trouble stomaching that useless metal mongrel!

In fact you could probably put a line between the great Tom Baker era with its gothic era like stories, and the more childish and boring Tom Baker stories with the introduction of k9.

It's all good Mr S, I didn't think your post was too negative, and you've clearly justified any reservations you have about Class.

I know what you mean about being disappointed that we're not getting real DW for ages, but I look Class as a bonus. I didn't expect it to be a full-length drama at all, I kind of expected it to be 15 minute "interludes" or something. I also didn't expect ABC to show it, I thought I'd have to be downloading it, so it's all good! And yes, it's aimed at kids. Mot pre-schoolers :p but "young adults", mature teenagers I guess. Which makes me at least 20 years out of the target audience range, so if I hadn't liked it I would have just accepted it and moved on. As it is, I'm delighted that I do like it, it bridges the gap between Doctor Who, Sarah Jane Adventures & Torchwood.
I was surprised (not shocked) at the level of sex and gore in Class, far beyond anything in DW, and more in-line with Torchwood as its most "adult". But I guess teenagers are blase about sex these days, and unless they're at it like rabbits and not being safe about it, then good for them. It's good that there are now same-gender relationships and all kinds of racial diversity, and no one bats an eyelid. It wasn't like that in my day (lol).

PS. LEAVE K9 ALONE!!!!!!! (imagine that in a Britney Spears fan way if you must) :D

PPS. Torchwood is SO a word, spellcheck...

...hahaha!... well thanks reepbot... I don't feel so alone in the Whoniverse knowing that somebody else doesn't like him lol!... and I totally agree with you about the Tom Baker years about the two differing eras... I so liked him best in his gothic and moody era... he was so much better when he was like that... he even scared me at times being like that... ahhhhhh!... such great episodes of them back then... cheers.

The Brain of Morbius was very gothic. As was the Seed of Doom!

...haha!... okey dokey my friend... but as it progresses I'll give updated reviews on it when future episodes air because as I said before... it will obviously improve as it goes further no doubt...

...hahaha!... I can assure you that it wasn't in my day even more lol!... especially in the 70's!... but yes as you say... it's good with the diversity with both the gay and racial side of things nowadays... it's good to see that we've all grown up now isn't it?...

PS. LEAVE K9 ALONE!!!!!!! (imagine that in a Britney Spears fan way if you must) :D

...bwahahahaha!... you do realise of course why this Photoshop just HAD to happen don't you?... lol!...

leave-K9-alone....gif

...oh lookie!... it just happens to show my most favourite K9 moment too!... what a coincidence!...:whistling::angelic::biggrin:...

PPS. Torchwood is SO a word, spellcheck...

...it always cracked me up that the word 'Torchwood' was 'Doctor Who' letters that were rearranged... WHOever realised that was a total genius!... lol!... cheers.

...jeez!... we have such similarities at times when it comes to all things Doctor Who... now I have this compulsive desire to watch some Tom Baker episodes at the moment... especially those two storylines... the good thing is that there were only about 3-4 or 5 episodes to watch the whole story so aren't so time consuming to catch up with too... cheers.

Hahaha, what a brilliant photoshop, I'm still laughing :D

I also agree that the first section of the Tom Baker era was the best, and is my favourite of all time. Fans call it the Hinchcliffe era (after the producer), and it runs more or less from "Robot" through to "Talons Of Weng-Chiang". That includes all the "gothic" brilliance of Brain Of Morbius, Seeds Of Doom, Genesis Of The Daleks, Terror Of The Zygons, Robots Of Death, The Ark In Space... flawless. Sarah Jane is there until Leela takes over for the last three stories.
The middle era, the Graham Williams era, runs from "Horror Of Fang Rock" (also brilliant), through K9's debut, and the introductions of Romana (both of them). There are some great stories, but it's much less gothic, and more humour-based. It does include "The Stones Of Blood" and "City Of Death" though, two of my favourites. Then we have John Nathan Turner, the JNT era, running from The Leisure Hive at the start of Baker's final season, all the way through to when the show was "rested" in 1989. There are a lot of great stories, but on the whole it's a glossier, and less "classic" run.

...wow!... you're like an encyclopedia of everything Whovian Meglos!... colour me impressed my friend... cheers.

The most polite disagreements on the internet happen RIGHT HERE, lol.

I LOVED K9. Knew he was coming, couldn't wait. Was pretty surprised when we first saw him and he was more of a box than a dog, but quickly got over that and loved him forever more. Oh that skinny waggly tail, happy memories.

But I liked this episode of Class the least so far. Great storyline and character development - loved Ms Quill and her 'sister', and the couples are so cute - but it was such a good concept and then all of a sudden it was solved and over. Still loving it though, will watch it again on the weekend.

And spellcheck totally hates the Whoniverse.

Glad you like K9, nutmeg. I have quite a few K9 figurines, including a remote controlled one. What my 8 year old self would have given to have that!

I'd like to see more repercussions in Class. It can't just be, tough kids battle monsters and are fine again next episode, and all the adults remain unchanged. I think that is the disconnect that Mr Sticky is feeling.

...haha!... I so have to agree with you on this nutmeg... I don't recall ever seeing a discussion on here that has become heated on this thread... The Doctor's love just keeps on giving doesn't it?... (I'm beginning to think that The Doctor is a bit of a tart after seeing all of these Gifs)... lol!... cheers.

Love the gifs!

There are some infuriating fans around, just not on here where everyone is great (which is why this is the only forum I post on now).

I want to see Capaldi do a gothic type story.

Ok I won't do any Class spoilers as I know some of you will be catching up later, but I've just got to say ... awesome.
