Do we have a politics thread to discuss things political?

When I lived in the Inner West of Sydney, Albo was my local member. He is a great guy, very passionate, loves his community and is always out and about chatting with the locals, etc. A very nice guy.
But nice guys don't win elections, and he is not the right person to lead Labor, or Australia.

Women
Labor have such a treasure trove of brilliant and relatable women
Males seem like whiny waffling midgets beside the colossally talented sharp women of Labor
And, see what quotas do dimwit libs with your dumbarse old boys sexist club
Quotes just open previously shut doors to all the very superior women, as Labor clearly displays

Libs lost their one shining light with their sexist crap, Julia Bishop is a born leader

Climate change should be a priority.

This country is dumb. Even if you want to sidestep Climate Change as a motivator or focus. We need to be modernising our country for the future. The future is a post-fossil fuel world. We need to prepare the economy for when no one wants to buy our coal. We need to work on building a power grid and infrastructure for renewable power. We need to be building the means to produce that power. We also need to be building electric car infrastructure now.

There was some progress with Rudd but then Gillard and Shorten fucked that up. So then we get the Liberals who just like to sit on their arse and go, "she'll be right." Never actually try and achieve anything. Which we are all experiencing right now with the vaccine fuck up. Do the bare minimum when they have to, hope it works out. Scramble when it doesn't.

We're already in a situation where we're closing old coal plants with no plans for what will replace them as governments want to sit on their arses unable to accept the fact the future is not fossil fuels. We also have stupidly high power costs as a result of this denial.

We're going to be fucked in a few years if we don't build the electric car infrastructure. It was so stupid at the last election with the liberals running against preparing for electric cars. Claiming Shorten is "stealing your ute and the weekend." We could very well find ourselves in a few years to have very limited car buying or quality car buying options when all the main manufacturers are almost entirely making electric cars and we haven't prepared for them. Of course after destroying our car industry. Where they'll say, "it's not practical for Australia." When really they just aren't practical for a country that denied they were inevitable in the short term and still wanted to rely on petrol cars. Of course with no means to build petrol cars for the actual situations electric cars aren't practical.

We'll probably end up in a situation where it'll all catch up to us, then there'll be a scramble to modernise the country. Which will end up being patchy, poorly done and cost way more money than if we were slowly working on doing it now. It will also of course roll out focused on the rich areas first.

Just look at how poor the internet has been managed. Rich areas like where I live had 100mb internet before the NBN. Poor areas didn't and weren't getting it anytime soon. Rudd put forward a plan to modernise the country after this had been neglected by the liberals. Denying the future is coming and you need to prepare. The liberals bastardise and messed up the rollout. Aiming for the bare minimum. Using inferior technology. In denial we will need a faster internet. Denying the future and reality we already knew to be true.

We end up getting an expensive substandard network, which immediately needs to be replaced and upgraded. To be replaced with the technology that was originally meant to be laid out.

Just think how much worse it would have been for Australia if we hadn't even gotten this substandard internet upgrade? Which enabled people to work from home. How many billions of dollars did that investment just provide to the economy? Despite it being made inferior. How much more benefit would we have gotten if we had the internet the original NBN would have given us?

Yet if the Liberals had gotten their way completely and it was scrapped. We'd be left behind and there'd now be a massive rush to try and modernise in the quickest dirtiest way. Of course the privileged rich areas would have all be fine to work from home. We've already seen the class divides with how COVID has been going, it'd be way worse with out the NBN.

So year, I think it's highly informative to see how stupid the country is, well a lot of it, that we're against modernising for the future we know is coming. Climate change aside, the actions that will reduce emissions need to be done anyway.

Yeah we have shocking internet here. I also remember how Rudd and Turnbull, back in 2009/10 were overthrown by their parties partly because of their stance on climate change. Of course there were other issues, but the climate stuff seemed to be the main reason.

WTF
Politicians talking about changes, to recognise different trade qualifications across states

Why hasn’t this been sorted out decades ago?
Professions sorted it out long ago

As @up_all_night says, we are a dumb country
We need to get smarter very quickly

What is even more fucked up is those that have put solar panels on thier roof are now being penalised by the power either not being allowed to go into the grid, or the power companies looking to no longer pay or possibly even charge people to put the power they generate into the grid. So people will disconnect thier solar panels as it will be too expensive, and fossil fuels will continue...
