Defence-gate...

I agree that David was using the situation to put down Priya in the eyes of the new neighbours, which to me was evident after he had spent time previously with them making a point of pointing out what he perceived was her flaws with them when he was invited to spend time with them earlier. I think the boys were jumping on the bandwagon with him because they know he has some popularity from watching the show.
Having said that when it was pointed out to him by Priya that he had made her feel uncomfortable he did support her with the discussion with the other boys. He works in the health system and is aware of all issues around bullying etc so would be aware when stepping over that line and I do think he was sincere when trying to rectifying the situation.
I work in a similar job to him and I know that your behaviour will be always influenced by the tenets of your profession regardless of the situation you find yourself in so I do believe he was sincere in trying to make things right again (btw I am not a David fan)

Just viewed it and felt intimidated ON BEHALF OF Priya.
David has let this game and his perceived popularity go to his head. He instigated the entire situation because Priya is his BIGGEST THREAT, then played all passive aggressive... Weak as piss.
As for the 2 intruder dudes... Full of excuses.

I love how people take one tiny incident (having a joke around) and just assume that it must be part of some grand sinister plan to make Priya look bad. I'm sure that arsehole slipped Priya a roofie as well so she'd fall asleep during the sleep task so he could commence his sinister agenda against her.

I suspect both David and Priya have moved on from this by now. The editing makes these sorts of events seem like a much bigger deal to the viewer than than it was for the housemates.

Speaking as a Priya fan David is all right. Even David admits that he lacks diplomacy sometimes. And Priya did admit that she can be a bit defensive. I didn't like the way David handled the apology, but I think the bad feelings would have cleared pretty quickly.

Exactly. They were hugging one another by the next night so they obviously got over it very quickly and didn't see it like the big deal some here seem to.

Ok, I have just watched this episode and I am actually very uncomfortable with it. I think the kicker for me was how the four boys were standing over Priya on the shallow part of the pool and Priya was below them in a very vulnerable position. That alone, if they'd thought about how that might feel from Priya's perspective, would be enough to apologise for.

I'm not sure the real point got across in the discussion, the boys were all brushing off the issue and I don't think Priya really said what was bothering her about it. David suggesting that it was a cultural difference and that Priya was somehow in the wrong because of this difference was really abhorrent too. It just reinforces Priya feeling different and vulnerable again. Ugh. He really dealt with the situation terribly and is completely unlikable in that moment.

Also, Travis siding with Priya while they were all talking about it and then doing a complete backflip later really showed that no one really understood the point which is actually kind of sad really. Ultimately, I think Priya made a stand, not only for herself, but for the fact she is a teacher and that bullying (regardless of gender, though in this situation it was a part of it) is something students face on a regular basis, being able to handle it, and face the person who is making you feel vulnerable, is an important skill.

You think he was just having a joke around? Come off it. He often says and does things to discredit mainly the girls.

Exactly. Claiming that Priya misunderstood what the they were doing was due to her lack of getting an Aussie joke was just crap. I like Dave but this gaslighting is happening more and more. I'm also not even a HUGE Priya fan but saw that situation as Dave painting a negative picture of her to the others.

ERMAGERD!! Me too!! I was totally thinking that!!

FWIW, my take: David is so excited that there are people in the house who actually treat him like he is worth listening to, since he has been disregarded or shut down left right and centre by the original housemates, that he gets a little carried away with a joke at someone's expense. They talk about it, clear it up and it's over. In thirty minutes or less.

Yeah, I do. I think they all were. I do think David lacks a certain level of social awareness, meaning he doesn't fully recognise when it's time to stop (Travis the same) but I don't think he intended any malice. If he did Priya wouldn't have been so friendly with him the following day.[DOUBLEPOST=1414811164][/DOUBLEPOST]

You're reading my mind ;)

It would have been better if Priya said something when it happened instead of the deep & meaninlgfu talk with David.

I was sad that this didn't happen after the talk with Priya & the boys.

And no Priya isn't the lord in the singing. :D

Bu bu bu but socially awkward!

Bu bu bu but just a joke!

Bu bu bu but remember when a thousand years ago someone was mean to him?!

Seeing the same old TIRED and STUPID excuses for David's behaviour is beginning to wear THIN.

NOBODY was as forgiving for LISA after she apologised to David for being a cunt. Nobody on here was making excuses for her.

Whether or not David INTENDED malice is totally irrelevant, as is the fact that he 'lacks a certain level of social awareness'. That is no excuse for an intelligent, articulate man of ~30..... IMO.

As Priya said, she FELT ganged up on and quite frankly, that is the whole point. I can see why she felt that way. The fact that she was then friendly towards David the next day says more about her maturity and has little to do with Priya sticking up for herself for being misrepresented to the 2 new male HM's by Travis.

The situation is being discussed in this thread because it featured in the Episode.... Not sure why it's an issue that people are having an opinion about it, one way or another.

That's because there was no ambiguity to Lisa's maliciousness.

But I did acknowledge it.
