USE of the word “slut” in a classic Roald Dahl story has seen the book removed from a supermarkets shelves.
Aldi has reportedly removed Revolting Rhymes from sale after customers complained about the use of the word.
The book only went on sale this week but customer reaction was swift, Fairfax reported.
A spokeswoman for Aldi said a small number of complaints were received by customers worried about language in the book, which led to its removal.
Other books by the famous British author will still be stocked.
Revolting Rhymes is a collection of classic poems originally published in 1982 that takes well known fairy tales a funny revamp.
“Who’s this dirty slut?”, is used in a modern take of Cinderella
The Merriam Webster defines slut as a promiscuous woman or a slovenly woman.
Customers have reacted furiously — and hilariously — on Aldi’s Facebook page with their opinions of the censorship.

After a post about a mystery product that was deliberately blurred several people asked whether it was a “Road Dahl book”.
“Let’s burn it, just in case it’s a Roald Dahl book. We don’t want children to read the same stuff we grew up with. Look how we turned out!,” one customer wrote.
Another said: “Dear Aldi, you practised censorship yesterday, bowing to the opinions of a small number of people who unfortunately did not appreciate Roald Dahl’s humour in his classic ‘Revolting Rhymes’. You have also contravened the worldwide policy of ‘Freedom To Read’. Now, that’s truly revolting! Reinstate the book in all your stores, please!”
One of the books also on sale was about dinosaurs, leading one customer to say: “They have not yet censored the Dinosaur book so luckily they are not creationists

RIP Joan Rivers, you sarcastic bitch, who will rip shreds off celebrity fashion now?

She's always was quite funny and someone you'd stop and watch when on TV.
However her recent calls for the genocide of the Palestinians pretty much destroyed any good will or care I had towards her.
If you were ask the average Arab (not just a so-called Palestinian) how they genuine felt about Jews, the majority (if not 100%) would express a similar sentiment only that they would be deadly serious unlike a comedian who dabbled in bad taste jokes. *shrugs*

This hatred gooooes a long way back UON, you're naive to think that it started or is fueled by the current 'Palestine' situation. If the power were ever to shift in the ME region I'd bet my bottom dollar what Nazis did in WWII would look like childs play compared to what muslims/arab would commit against Jews.

Joan Rivers saying Palestinian children deserve to be killed and Israel should kill them all is flat out wrong and there should be no excusing or tolerance for such statements.

It isn't less wrong because some Palestinians want to kill Israelis.

Two wrongs at opposed ends doesn't make each other right.

Simone Battle from the girl group G.R.L who have a current hit with "Ugly Heart" has reportedly passed away from an apparent suicide, and I know a lot of you will have no idea who this is, but RIP, another life gone, another reminder that people have struggles, some silent, some not so much, another reminder to be kind to one another, behind the mask we wear in our daily lives, people face shit you don't know, a smile, a kind word, an olive branch or touching base with someone who care about can make the world of difference, more than you realise. RIP Simone, I hope you are now in peace

I didn't think she was going to make it. :(

RIP you unapologetic bitch.

from here: http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/...un/comments/joan_rivers_conservative_kind_of/

She wouldn’t let a friend pay a bill, ever. She tipped like a woman who used to live on tips. She was hilarious that day on the subject of Barack and Michelle Obama, whom she did not like. (I almost didn’t write that but decided if Joan were here she’d say, “Say I didn’t like Obama!")

She was a Republican, always a surprising thing in show business, and in a New Yorker, but she was one because, as she would tell you, she worked hard, made her money with great effort, and didn’t feel her profits should be unduly taxed. She once said in an interview that if you have 19 children she will pay for the first four but no more. Mostly she just couldn’t tolerate cant and didn’t respond well to political manipulation. She believed in a strong defense because she was a grown-up and understood the world to be a tough house. She loved Margaret Thatcher, who said what Joan believed: The facts of life are conservative. She didn’t do a lot of politics in her shows—politics divides an audience—but she thought a lot about it and talked about it. She was socially liberal in the sense she wanted everyone to find as many available paths to happiness as possible.

Very timely clip. Thanks for posting.

Even though she has said some NQR things recently, Joan was a legend of comedy, a trailblazer for female comics, and a surprisingly kind person. She fully lived life right up til the end, which is exactly how she would have wanted it. I saw her live a few years ago, and she was so funny. RIP to the Queen of Mean.

That clip looks like it is from the doco, ABC or SBS has run a few times, saw it last night. Gave me a new perspective of the woman.
I never liked her humour much, she seemed kind of crass and trashy & old fashioned, those old comedians that just stood telling gags do nothing for me.

But boy, after that doco I had a new respect for how hard her life was, and how hard she worked - and the live stage stuff was far funnier and also rougher than the prime time TV stuff.
Worth watching, very interesting time in her life, during celeb apprentice.

Lynch, 39, stood just 3 feet tall, but his reach was long thanks to the entertaining chemistry he developed with Stern over a decade of phone calls.
