Episode DAY 9: NOMINATIONS #1 (90mins)

Most of you hit the nail on the head. This show is a complete joke. Remember when we had stuff like BB UpLate? Some of the most chill, relaxing, fun and engaging shows to watch. Real fucking people talking about real fucking things in real fucking stories. No contrived bullshit, no overly edited nonsense, no interfering, just letting the housemates go about what they do AND SHOWING IT, ALL OF IT. Which is the whole point of the show, to fucking watch people do shit.

Big Brother is not Big Brother anymore. The housemates inside might be real people, but the current show is as real as Home and A-fucking-way.

I still watch, because Big Brother at its core is one of the best concepts on television. Too bad the BB producers don't know or even understand that. All of them need to be fucking fired. Fucking disgraceful. Makes me so mad.

Don't be shy, tell us what you are really thinking, no beating around the bush. :p

I agree Serge I used to love the uplate going to bed when they did enjoying the chatter I was dubious when Nine took it on that they would botch it, hence the reason I didn't watch much last year, Not too much of a fan of Sonja either, I can only hope we get some juicy stuff in the confidential night but I doubt it. However BB is still addictive tv we know its bad for us but we keep glued to the set. :)

LMAO! God I love your posts!

I just miss the original core format so, so much. Good daily shows, Uncut, and BB UpLate. No overly contrived editing or "twists", just no nonsense.

Chilling in bed watching UpLate and watching real people about talk real stories with no overbearing editing... good times, and good memories, that unfortunately we will never relive, because the show currently caters to young children and people wanting Home And Away 2.0

LMAO! God I love your posts!

haha, thanks.

Tonight I didn't even bother to turn the sound on for the noms show but rather just left it going on the secondary screen while we started watching the third season of "Falling Skies" instead.

Trouble is, we're now already up to episode 4 (BTW, JBHifi have the first two seasons available for $19.95 a go at the moment, and ya get another TV season of something thrown in for free ...), and we've not even got to the first eviction as yet.

Oh well, I guess I could start a new character in Skyrim again.

Oh, and does everyone think that Tim is a protected character and although BB will allow it to be toyed with, no way will it be permitted to be killed off before BB is ready ?

Anyhoo, if (like me) you think BB has become an utter farce, make sure that you not only don't vote but also make a point of NOT buying anything advertised during the daily shows, etc.

"In short", don't be played; don't be fooled.

I think everyone is feeling disheartened about BB at the moment. It's basically all over the place at the moment and frustrating all of us! 9 just can't seem to get it right. Shame really because I really do like the cast. Don't really agree though that Tim is a protected character - guess we will just have to wait and see - if he is saved on Thursday then I'm going to be pretty suss about the whole show within a show and these twists aren't really twists but spot decisions made by the producers.

Noms are the same every time.. the attractive girls are up for eviction. I wish we could nom so we can get the boring HMs out, such as Sharon, Matt, Ed, Drew and Jasmine.

Wow - a long read. So much to comment on.

Did we just start Monday night after those new housemates in, therefore skipping everything that happened on Monday before 9pm?

Come on! We just missed an entire weekend of content, and now we can't even see what happened on Monday. These housemates think we get to see all the interesting things they do, but we don't. Jasmin and Sharon could be the most interesting people in that house, but I would never know. If they were up for eviction, they would go as a result. It's making it difficult to find a housemate to support other than the ones that we are told to like.

It's unfair to us and it's unfair to the housemates.
And the footage from last night was poor too - all we seemed to see was Tully crying, the "twins" doing not a lot and a quick convo with Rohan in the diary room - but zero footage of him in the house (other than going to bed).

So, just so we're clear, we've barely seen anything from the house from Friday to Monday. This is a problem!
Exactly - they seem to have 7 1/2 hours of airtime across the week with nearly half of it being highlights of Tuesday and Wednesday, then the rest of the week having to share with nominations, Showdown and the eviction.

The nominations are properly live, right? I don't see the "LIVE HOUSE" graphic...
Was absolutely clear they weren't live - just like Showdown you can just tell. Also seemed clear Sonia was on a secondary set rather than the main stage - it just all felt a bit cheap. Someone in the Showdown thread said Shelly filmed her part for Showdown in Sydney so I guess this was the same set, presumably to enable Sonia to do more editions of Mornings across the week.

I would love to nominate! Would be so fun. I can't believe some people cry over it. It is a game!!!!
Exactly. People wouldn't go on Millionaire and cry about having to answer questions, so why complain about nominating on BB. Also think how a HM nominates reveals a lot about them - not just how they feel about each other but how they see the game themselves.

Wow, Tahan voting strategy! Didn't see that coming!
A really wasted vote so early on though - you don't vote strategically in week 1 based on not being able to beat someone in the final. Kicking out Ed now would make it harder for Tahan to make the finals - in the early weeks you vote out the people who would vote you out before beginning to think about who you can beat when it gets to the end.

So surprised Mikkayla is getting so many votes - guess they don't show her yelling and stuff.
Was quite surprised too - especially from the Halfway House people. I suspect she'd have got less if the twist had been revealed earlier.

HAHA, loved that lipstick compliment from BB
Yep, brilliant stuff. Don't like BB putting words into the housemates mouths though when it comes to nominations.

The chamber is better quality from last year. It's been rebuilt.

Why do I say that, cause it is. The door was on the side last year and this year its on the back.
Yes, was clearly improved but still pointless IMO. Just a novelty they could do without really and have noms back in the diary room - though it is good it's kind of neutral ground considering the divide twist.

I love how everyone is comforting M when they all voted for her, lol
It's the same the world over - people seemingly so shocked the person they nominated is up for eviction.

Bye Sharon...that is my prediction
Completely agree.

Wow. Mikkayla has to decide?? Interesting twist I must say. Kinda harsh, but also pretty powerful!
That was a bit wrong IMO. Firstly why not allow a tie - they've got 10 in the Safe House so why not 7 in the Half Way House? Secondly the highest nominee can be tied for points too - so would be fairer if it was the Showdown winner making the call if there has to be one, and considering the divide twist I think fairer that they save one of the 7 rather than just the tied HMs, giving people like Mikkayla who have been in there already a chance to escape it.

WHAT. THE. HELL?!?!? Nominations are not final!?!??!?! INTRIGUED TO THE MAX!
Pretty sure it'll be the Save and Replace task from BBUK 2010, where the nominees compete - winner saves themselves and replaces themself with a HM of their choice. Tough call on who they would choose - Heidi is a safe option as she only just missed out, though if Tim wins it could be anyone.

Yeah the whole editing of Mikkayla v Tully and the resulting housemate noms have me really interested in what really went down.
Very good point - we don't seem to have seen the full story at all.

There's a lot of talk about not seeing enough footage of the house, especially over the weekend.

Has anyone else noticed they've seemed to up the anty & regularity of the 'live video' updates on the OS?

Maybe the stuff we've missed is contained in these videos?

The problem is, people barely watch them. The stuff really needs to be on TV... But, at least its somewhere?

Sharon came across as haughty and cold and uncompassionate tonight, quite a different character from the kindly, maternal, helpful personal trainer shown during the weekday snippets. And 'not being bothered' with getting to know your housemates when you've beaten out thousands of applicants to get a chance to be in the house with them is extremely ungracious.
Totally agree. the I can't be bothered comments really gave me the shits. She can go back to the kids IMO. Clearly she is a non-event. Though it is hard to tell since we never see a complete conversation, argument, etc. This is just getting kind of depressing.

The content on the website should be supplementary to what we see on TV - ie longer cuts of conversations that were cut due to time constraints - instead of being a requirement to find out wtf is going on.

To be fair, they did dedicate the first half hour of last night to Monday's footage but the choice of content to fill that half hour was poor. If they can't show enough footage on the Monday to cover three days of footage, they need to scrap "Showdown" and use the timeslot for a daily show because if we're only going to really see Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I don't think I'm going to bother watching much longer.

I think the biggest problem for me about this season I feel like I hardly know the housemates. Why can't nine do up a proper daily show or at least a weekly catchup in the old channel 10 format and put it on Gem or Go for us die hard fans!? Surely they can spare a spot as it's not like they're running out of airwaves I mean they have two shopping channels ffs?

One more week and they'll have all the ETHNICS in the Halfway House (which I lovingly refer to as North Korea).

So apparently Mikkayla is dialed up to 11 all of the time. We'd maybe know that - if we got footage other than people being put in, people settling in, the weekly tasks and people looking through a fence.

Hmm. Well, after reading the thread,

I'm surpised more people aren't wigging out about the soundproof booth. I thought it was clear that Tim's shouting could be heard by Jasmin, based on her strained smile as he was nominating her.

Also the BB lipstick comments directly afterwards had me gasping for breath due to laughter.

Great TV to have the blubbering nominee have to choose to make someone else's week miserable in the halfway house. (disclaimer: I should mention I have a 3 house BB scenario that involves mental cruelty to contestants...)

Agree that it's hard to know how "bad" Sharon and Jasmin are in the house due to their being the least shown housemates, but can't agree for certain that Sharon will be first out if people aren't that aware of her. ie "I'll vote Sharon out because, wait, which one is Sharon again??"

Also, I thought Istantalent was banned but somehow they slipped back in...

?????????????????????
sounds quite good

Could it be a public vote every week, we can save someone and then chuck out another????

Basically I have given up thinking of this as BB.
You have to think of it as something different - 9's rather clumsy attempt at soap, they have always been jealous of 7 & 10 for H&A, Neighbours.
And 9's TV style is to beat you over the head with a lot of flashing lights and colour and confusion, and the people they approve of.
