Episode Day 30 (Tue 27/08/13 9:30pm): Late Night Feast #1

Ben really is a nothing housemate, so very pointless. That's why I hate how much focus he gets. They're focusing on nothing.

I haven't noticed that much attention on him after the first week or two. Mostly Drew/Jade/Ed/Tim

maybe we should all try out for BB next year, they would definitely have a great show then and lots more adult content and a greater diversity of convo areas and less boring hms

Yet so many other people will think 'oh, now adorable. Isn't he just lovely.'

But part of the whole BB experience is meeting people who we would never meet in our real life and getting to know them at a deeper level. How many of us know anyone like BEN?

random thoughts

- i just realised why BB has sucked all the social voyeurism out of the show: costs. They don't monitor the house full time and build stories from what's actually happening. Instead, they stage events and have the production crew cut those into vingnettes. I'm sure it's a great way to keep production costs down, but it's why it feels so manufactured and why the HMs still feel unknown 3-4 weeks in.

- by comparison, the i think something like 5 of my 6 favourite "moments" this season, were spontaneous, pulled from footage of HMs initiating interaction. nuff said.

- tonight's staged event was a mixed bag, even fairly disappointing. sure, it was fun, but there was a lot of diary by-play of "what happened was...". Story-telling tip: don't tell me, show me.

- The adult conversations felt a bit forced compared to the last couple daily shows, but it was still good to see them. In particular, people's passions were on display. I actually felt like I learned more about many of them tonight than I have all season.

- i could have done without the extended "sloppy snoggin, streakin and sexdancing" stretch though. Sure it had a couple laugh-out-loud moments, and probably plays well with the kids, but it was more cathartic for them than satisfying for me. could be just me though.

- i would have preferred footage of D&Ms from the past several weeks, cobbled together in a stream of consciousness fashion. but as I said, that's probably too expensive for the shoe string budget the profit imperative requires.
