They own the rights but they have minimal control over the vision. Pre-recording might have been a suggestion during negotiations but I’m doubtful they went around pitching the pre-recorded format directly to 7.

Very dramatic. Can’t remember details of what we fought over but there was definitely a war between myself and the organizer about something lol.

Might have had something to do with participants posting their own footage of the lock-in and the organizers demanding it be taken down.

Drinking the kool-aid is very different from being the inventor of it 🙄. We’re talking about the modern era where networks pretty much exercise total control over their productions vs the days where Endemol people onsite disapproving furniture because it looked too “luxurious”. The choice she had was take the EP job or not 💁🏼‍♂️

I believe that Endemol has already developed a pitch for a pre-recorded Big Brother long before they've talked to 7 about a revival. There was a time when streaming platforms wouldn't do anything live and I'm sure that Endemol tried to find a response to that, which they can then pull out when needed.

But fully agree that Endemol didn't go to 7 and was all "Hey, we have this format here which you should do live and it would give you a chance to work on the show while it airs and change things up, when it's not working, but we recommend not doing this. Let's pre-record it, because it takes the hassle out of editing an episode a day. We haven't had an issue with this 20 years ago, when we still used tapes to record everything and had to do everything manually.. but it's certainly a problem now!"

7 made the demands, Endemol responded to it.

Didn't someone (a producer?) say they were still editing the end of some of the BBAU daily shows while the start of the episode was airing? 😅

I feel like a lot of Big Brother editing is outsourced nowadays anyway, e.g. BBUK post production is credited to Braxted now.
 
I suspect the 24 hour turnaround ultimately works out cheaper - they probably spent as long editing the 20-30 episodes a series in the Seven years as they did with the quick turnaround of a full Ten series - and did a worse job of it.
