Big Brother back in 2025 on 10! AND LIVE!

Disagree. They need new blood because wiping the slate clean is simply the right thing to do in this context. I don't think this so called "new generation" would really know the difference or care either way.

Also I really don't think the "new generation" is where 10's focus should be... They should be focused on winning back the OG's, if they can get us on-board, a big enough marketing push, and a grassroots social media presence everything else will fall in to place. IMO ITV's biggest failure will always be trying too hard to impress new younger viewers/modern audiences and not doing enough to win back some of the audience BB once had.
I think they need to find the balance of winning back OG’s but also appealing to a newer crowd.

Channel 10 Chief Programmer David Mott did say in 2011 he was concerned that "audiences had moved on", when considering whether to revive BB.

Yes, it's a tricky balance to strike. As an OG I don't want a show I associate with my teens/20s now being targeted at 40 somethings, and to thrive it needs to capture a new audience.

No. Market to everyone but the show itself should be focused on the fundamentals not trying to reinvent the wheel. Just look at how well the past two eras have faired with Network execs imposing their vision over what fans were actually asking for. Also looking back at the early single digit seasons and while some of the language/behaviours/situations may not have aged well there really isn’t anything format wise that would turn off a modern audience. Again if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

I’d much rather they focus on finding a solid cast, solid editors, and building a production team that actually understands the fundamental rules of BB than running around looking for solutions to problems that don’t exist.

I completely agree. That’s all that needs to be done. And the Australian audience has been asking for nothing more or nothing less for over a decade now.

Perhaps they should show something for everyone. FNL for kids, Uncut for mature adults, daily shows for young adults, live evictions for teens.

And how would you sell that to advertisers exactly? Demographics cannot be treated like a wardrobe, commit to one age group and market damn well to that age bracket.

Nobody is buying ad-space on a show that doesn’t know who it’s chasing

That's a very good point. Who are they targeting? Over 40s who have been bemoaning the loss of authenticity in more recent incarnations? Or do they believe that because it worked in 2001-2008 they will capture a new audience of the same demographic they won the hearts of then? I feel like they'll fail if it's the latter, but the former isn't exactly 10's usual audience. The only show I watch on 10 is Gogglebox.

Although the show does need to appeal to new viewers advertising wise audiences are trending up and up now. 10 still target the younger age range but overall the trend is to target older. I'd imagine what once was targetted at 16-34 may, advertising wise at least, be targetted more at 25-54. The ads target where the money is. That doesn't mean the show will just target 40-somethings because if they can bring in the teenagers and get their parents watching too that hits the demos for advertisers.

TEN should really just focus on treating BB with the same respect they did back in the 2000s. Nothing crazy really needs to be done to the show, in defence of the later seasons on TEN I don't think the decline of it had much to do with production faults as much as much it did due to circumstantial reasons. If they cast a diverse range of people and deliver us a show that rings true to what Aussies know and love about BB then the viewers of any age group will find themselves watching the show.

The general daily shows and live eviction episodes will appeal to any age range really. Family friendly elements could be beneficial to the show but not when they are the driving force of how the show is produced. If TEN really wants this to succeed then they need to do what NINE didn't and that is utilise all platforms, especially online engagment. Love Island does extremely well with younger BVOD viewers. If it's accessible online then there isn't too much else that needs to be done to appeal to younger people. Reality TV in general already does well in Australian broadcasting.

BB2025 will have a decent advantage being on 6 days a week, no other RTV show is on more than 4 nights a week anymore. But the advantage may take a while to actually have an impact. I don't think it should be expected to pull numbers close to the Block. If it can pull the same numbers as Australian Survivor, then we can hopefully see BB become the show that really does define Channel 10. If they seriously take the same approach they have with Australian Survivor, then things will fall into place on their own.

Like I’ve said all along make a show that the OG fans have been asking for and the rest will fall in to place. BB isn’t new or innovative in the 2020’s and the novelty is really what got the OG generation in the door. IDK for me I think BB could find an audience amongst the younger generation but it’s going to have to happen organically and there’s nothing BB can really do stamp the show as being “for you”. They’re either going to love it or hate it so just make the show for the people that actually want it…. It’s not the younger generation asking for it, we are.

Yeah I do agree with you. The younger will viewers will just have to join in along the way, which I personally think will be the case. Trying to sell the show to a specific age group would do more damage than anything. The fans of Big Brother know what they want, if there wasn't any interest in the format at all then the 2020 season wouldn't have mainatained an audience of 800/900,000. Yes it can be argued covid lockdowsn did play a part in that but the 2021 seasons even managed a total average of 1.1 million.

If the Australian public has genuinlly moved on than the show won't rate well regardless if it its done absolutly correctly or not. So TEN may as well just try and produce the best season the possibly can. If it doesn't rate than there isn't anything else that can be done.

BB has the potential to deliver something that no other RTV show can really deliver and that’s authenticity. I really don’t see how delivering something authentic is compatible with trying to give BB so called “modern appeal”. It’s what they’ve been trying to do for well over a decade and it clearly hasn’t worked.

Exactly right. We have very limited information for the next what? 9 or so months? All we can do is specutlate for now but I really do hope TEN just go into this with a level headed mindset. But with it being live, broadcasting 6 nights a week and including live streaming this is already a top 9 (maybe top 8) season of BBAU before it's even started.

So the only thing I can think of that would bring BB in to the mid 2020’s would be an app and one that would have things that the OS hosted in the 2000’s. Things a house tour/floor plan, HM bios, new/updates, perhaps even a message board/chat, and the live feed.

Having an app would definitely be beneficial for watching the live stream on the go.
