Big Brother back in 2025 on 10! AND LIVE!

Well it clarifies that there hasn’t been a deal done to end the holdback clause.
What a ridiculously incorrect statement, with a touch of misguided arrogance.

It's a low rent gossip story about someone not under contract with Banijay/Endemol. 9 and 10 just don't think it's worth covering whilst 7News will cover any old shit. It had absolutely nothing to do with any holdback clause.

I dunno, there was this article posted on Channel 10 about a host of Channel 7's AFL coverage.

Do you think that maybe it means next year we'll have Channel 10's coverage of Channel 7's coverage of the 2025 Toyota AFL Season?
Considering Abbey was a contestant on survivor and 10 still has a good relationship with her, of course they’re going to run a story on her.

And the next broadcasting rights for the afl is 2031, so your comparison is pretty dumb.

Could we actually do better than ukbb for once ?
I see potential with the right formula but stuff like this “… and non-stop hijinks” coming essentially right from the horses mouth shakes that. The focus should be on re-introducing the Australian public to the core format not gimmicks. If they play their cards right there will be time for that down the road but they’ll have nothing if they can’t prove they can deliver the basics first.

I personally interpret the “non stop hijinx” just as a way to say watch all the fun the housemates get up to. I don’t expect there to be zero gimmicks either.

As we edge closer to saying BB is returning THIS YEAR I’m starting to prepare myself however for potential disappointing ratings. It’s gonna take a while for viewers to trust this show again, which is why I do hope the series is as long as it needs to be.

You’re right I probably reading too much in to that particular line, however... I think we've seen countless times now (including in the OG 10 era) where they'd say all the right things pre-series and deliver a subpar series.

Also if it's going to take a while for viewers to trust the show again it's all the more reason that this should be a re-introduction to the base format. As for gimmicks let's go back to when the show first launched; the format on it's own is rather gimmicky. Let the cast do the heavy lifting coupled with the fact that for the first time in nearly 20 years there will be live streaming. I can't imagine a series full of twists is really what's going to win back viewers trust.

👆🏻neither will trying to reinvent the wheel in the name of bringing a new generation in to the viewership.

I’m going to keep screaming this (and hopefully production still read these forums) but make a show for the fans and I promise everything else will fall in to place!!!!

The fact that they’ve committed to reviving the live feeds speaks volumes in terms of credibility I’d hate to see them fuck it all up with “hijinks”.

It's on Ten - disappointing ratings are standard. However they almost always give shows a chance to grow so unless it's an absolute disaster it should be something they'll look to nurture rather than axe.

Obviously the ratings system has changed since the last Seven series but I think comparable averages are still there - and the last Seven series absolutely flopping should mean even if they're sub-400k Ten will still be able to boast they're 50% up on the previous series.

Initial ratings will also be dependent on how much they’re willing to invest in pre-season promotion. The standard 3 to 4 weeks just won’t cut it.

The standard seems to be more 3-4 months now - and then they slap a promo on screen throughout the programme promoting whatever is coming along to replace it a couple of months later. Seems quite disrespectful to me to use one programme as a billboard for another.

Arguably Big Brother would actually benefit from less promo than usual - rather than overhyping it leave it until the last opportunity to promote it and rely on the element of surprise.

3 to 4 seems like a bit overkill but if they build an actual campaign, ease their way in to it, and avoid setting too many expectations I don’t see it getting too overwhelming. Also given the state of 10’s ratings they’re definitely going to need more than just advertising on 10/Social Media.

IIRC the OF 10 era used several different ads vs the prior two eras that pretty much just recycled the same theme/format with a few variations/lengths.

A positive is that TEN are probably going to be pumping ads out for BB during the Survivor AU vs the World’s broadcast. Which should rate reasonably well since there seemingly isn’t any major competition at that time, so hopefully a lot of survivor’s audience move over to BB.

We really need the holdback to go away so we actually have more to dissect other than the upfronts description lol.

Speaking of the hold back I definitely think no news is better than actual news at this point... In other words the fact that we're not hearing anything says a lot for this being a negotiable issue and not potentially derailing 10's plans. Negotiations are always done best behind closed doors AND anyone with a vested interest in the show would know this. Also take in to account what's riding here... I think BB has the potential to really turn things around for 10 so I can't really see them being that hard to work with in terms of a settlement.

I hope they pick housemates with no social media presence.
I think in reality that's a very high benchmark nowadays - most people, especially looking to get on TV and able to spare a couple of months, will have some kind of presence and it's basically the 2020s equivalent of being a promo model during the original run.

To be fair the Seven casting was pretty decent and cast their net wider than the Channel 10 days, and the last series arguably sold the cast short by only concentrating only on their hot single instagramable status in the promotion.
