Looks like it has something to do with this:
I'm reminded of a time, about 2006, watching the BBUS feeds, when the camera operator zoomed right in on a cigarette packet which was left standing up on a table in the yard. It was kinda surreal that they would do that.

Oh wow I wish I could go back and watch the 2006 feeds of BBUS that’s my favourite season

In summary:
  • Nostalgia with a modern twist
  • Letting the experiment play out
But I couldn't help but double take at this line from Sarah:
'And don’t be surprised if Big Sister turns up this season'

Is this Lil' Sis but all grown up now or something entirely different??? 🤔🤔🤔

Or maybe just a nod to a female BB acting as one of the voices / deputy producers, which is fine and nothing to be alarmed about

It’s this image that has made me spiral more than anything:

The typeface in the capsule-like design, the colours… for a show that did everything they could to pretend they didn’t take ideas from BBUK once upon a time, so far this is literally a carbon copy of the current iteration of BBUK. If the on-screen graphics continue to look like that (i.e. HM names, day number and timestamps, etc), I’m afraid it’s not giving BBAU a chance to have its own identity. Still hopeful but I’m suddenly nervous about the editing now as well.

Oh, I'm just SO excited, you guys. 😍

Is anyone else finding this to be the closure they never got from BB07-BB08? 👀 So good to see Gretel so happy and settled again, even though it must be super weird to be back at Dreamworld and surrounded by Big Brother stuff.
Back to this point - I feel like this moment right now before the launch is very much giving that closure, while also offering up a bit of optimism.

The closure is comforting, it reminds me of constantly rewatching this closing package / retrospective from BB08 as the C10 era came to a close. Is it dumb that it’s making me emosh?! To quote Jamie… IM NOT CRYING.

Also very pleased that I am not the only one so terrified & annoyed about this. They’ve done so well with the typeface & visuals so far, a good mix of OG & modern. Even if they add that stupid diamond-ish eye logo to capture some of the fans of the 9 & 7 eras, it’s ok. But to me, BB is always that photorealistic eye on a blue background with big bold letters, not this purply vibe.

Also, Gretel…talking about Big Brother and the revival…positively. 🥹

“So it’s 24 years ago. Isn’t it amazing because it’s still so fresh in people’s minds? I really wish Mel and the whole gang all the best. I hope that it’s a triumph.”

Let's not forget the Alice in Wonderland oversized chairs from 2013 😂

The texture on those chairs strobed in every close-up shot, too. 😒

This is so nice to see, I feel like she usually goes out of her way to NOT talk about it. Even on TAR, all they got out of her was, "I was the host of... a TV show that.... was quite a phenomenon in its day", and then she immediately pivoted. 😄 Even with Mikey today, I don't think Big Brother was mentioned by name.

Also she looks gorge. 😍

She did the same thing when Nine's era was about to launch too.

She did get one thing wrong though.

Sonia Kruger will be a terrific host

This. I suppose the hasty transition to similar graphics was a hint too.

I can live with the house but they’ll lose me as a viewer if it’s quite literally the same as what BBUK is producing. They’ve had a promising start with their build up to the series. Will they stick with no influencers? Will each episode heavily feature pop music? Will punishments be a crap little jail cell in the yard? Will we have cheap dramatic lighting changes during evictions? It’s giving Disney and The Sims.

So far the only difference I can spot is that nominations will be live, which the UK doesn’t do.

Idk, I’m optimistically wary. I’ve been stoked for this since it was announced last year but these previews have left a lot to be desired for me. Perhaps my expectations were a little high but I did expect some Australian originality. Nothing stays the same but this could possibly be veering too far off course.

Big Sister - I assume a female voice. That’s what the female voice in 2007 was referred to.

While I'm thrilled with excitement BB is back I'm abit disappointed with a few things;
- Leon murray returning as the voice
- the live show area (can't really call it much of a stage)
- the house design, while it's exactly what I expected simply because this is what BBuk have done and we seem to copy mostly what they do. Its also the same production company that produced the I'll fated 7 version so they weren't going to change to much in the way of house design especially in the small area they where given, its basically a step up from the 7 era houses and abit nicer and more polished.

I just hope that they have picked a good group of housemates, it's abit concerning with so many infulancers coming foward saying they where approached by producers to be on the show. I also don't really want to go down this silly head of house or super power twists they have done previously. Just put the people into the house and watch them. That's what the show is about and that's what made it great, seeing how they act.
Let's just pray bb works and gets the views because if it doesn't then this will be the end of big brother in Australia.

to wrap things up, if i was the boss of the show 😂 I would of done things differently but I see enough potential here for it to work.
Come on BB and the production team! U have so many people wanting it to be a success

Agreed. Tho I would’ve thought some massive changes would’ve need to have been made for 10 to even consider hiring the same people. Could this be a false promise of return to basics? Let’s not put that out there.

Confirmation of what we already knew:
  • “small eviction arena and outdoor standing-room area”
  • absolutely no “traditional camera runs where camera operators once worked under black sheets behind two way mirrors to capture footage, instead it is all remote rigged cameras mounted around the house”
  • Gretel Killeen got the biggest applause at Upfronts 👏
