Big Brother 2025 starts November 9 (Sunday) on 10

It really sounds promising, so I am really looking forward to the launch, but I also cannot help but be a bit nervous because I don't want to be disappointed again. Though whatever will be, will be, this is probably the best chance BB has had since its original run and I hope it is a success and brings some of the OG feels.

I'm looking forward to seeing who the new housemates will be. Some of them sound quite interesting. Mel is also going to be a great host. She is a super fan like us. 😍

I can't see the show being extended over 4 weeks because of that ride nearby re-opening on a certain date etc. but it would be nice to have some extra time if it's possible. Having a longer season next year would be ideal, hopefully.
 
So what are you guys reading into this?

How many weeks is the show running? Will you be doing double evictions to get the numbers down?
Sarah Thornton: “We haven’t (confirmed weeks) but obviously you can see we’re heading to Christmas. We will up the pace as we get to the Final, definitely. But, we’re sort of hoping to get to the Final with enough people that the house is still entertaining and that viewers still feel like they’re getting to decide on their favourite for the winner.”

Surely they have a finale date set in stone? Or are they willing to let it run an extra week or two if ratings are good? 15 Dec finale? 22nd (that'd be crazy)?

As for the Christmas present for QLD, could they air the eps an hour earlier on a multichannel there? i.e. same time as NSW/VIC. idk what channels they have any more.

I'm just gonna say it. I'll punt that we are indeed getting the speculated 6 weeks - and if they keep drawing inspiration from ITV, which so far they've mostly been doing, then that's exactly the length of their first two seasons. This is backed by the "Christmas present" comment, if the finale is (currently) penciled for December 22/23.

Odd time of year to do it. Big ratings risk if true. But so far they seem to be going balls to the wall. On top of being very coy about the length of the season, I suspect all signs are pointing to that currently being their tentative plan - with the proviso that it's subject to change.

Promise I can live with. It’s workable. What I can’t deal with is yet another round of ridiculous imposing mandates.

After reading that interview I think you’d be hard pressed to have left the impression that’s what’s happening here.

Are they being maybe a bit too cautious? Perhaps. I don’t however think anyone at 10 is ruling with an iron fist.

The strategy as I see it seems to be very much like what I would have expected it to have been in 2001. Cautiously optimistic as well as adaptable.

Yes however BB will get back to you. Works for me 💁🏼‍♂️ or at least signals there’s some potential of expanding the series in the future.

Streaming, streaming, and streaming. My understanding from what I’ve read in the ratings threads is that’s pretty much 10’s core business these days. Far more flexible for everyone than it would be using one of their multi-channels. But I could just be talking out my ass for all know?

It only really works when FTA is used as the funnel to BVOD. BVOD-only content won't have any value.

Yes and no. Networks panic also if it rates its socks off because BB is rare in the way it’s produced they can try to capitalise on good ratings and increase their network share for the week. I wouldn’t rule it out. At the end of the day it’s all for $$$
 
Speaking of marketing, with word that BB's voice is now making announcements at Town Hall in Sydney plus murals/billboards popping up across Aus and cross-promotion on other shows, this is officially the biggest pre-season marketing campaign we've seen for BBAU.

Going through archives, the closest in scale and multitude of TVCs was the 2007 season, which simultaneously ran alongside the Starburst contest. 2007 is also the only other year where the style of TV promos didn't stick to a single idea and evolved over the course of pre-season.

2007 had "Vote1BB" ads and then "election promise" promos, which shifted to the iconography teasers (of which there nearly 20 different variants), we moved to the Gretel "press conference" promos, before reverting to 10sec text teasers about the HMs, then we got several audiowave announcements by Big Brother's voice interrupting ads, before landing on Gretel revealing twists about the house, alongside a daily countdown to Launch.

Comparatively, the evolution of the 2025 promos shares a lot of similarities, in addition to the $10,000 Contest. We've also officially surpassed the amount of promos for 2025 (over 50+ and counting) than what aired back in 2007 (approx 30-40 promos). Huge.

I tried to go back and wanted to compare the first hallway promo with the new one.. and I've seen that we had our first copyright takedown for the season. And those were just the promos.

Edit: No need for the picture anymore.. was a nonsense claim.

An incredible cross-promotion during Talkin' 'Bout Your Gen. There was a quiz segment with iconic historic quotes remixed into a DJ rap and they had to guess what they were. Gretel's "Everybody sit down, sit down. Merlin are you going to speak?" was mixed in. Right there alongside quotes from speeches by Martin Luther King and JFK. 😂😂 😂

This campaign keeps on giving.
