Rewatch Big Brother 2008 YouTube stream (Starts 7am 25 Oct)

That was because they did such a terrible job of it, the casting in particular.
Agreed. This is my first time watching this season and most of the housemates are meh at best, and none of them are remotely interesting. Boredom was already setting in by the second Daily Show for me.

I think there was too much reliance on blokey blokes (a common theme throughout BBAU's history) and ocka chicks who did not deliver and overshadowed the rest. Maybe that's mostly who was applying to be on the show by the end.

Compare to BBUK where they usually only cast 2-3 straight young men maximum per season nowadays. Their purpose is usually to start a short-lived house romance or be eye candy and then they're booted.

Well we always knew they got paid a stipend while away from home, that's standard. The health insurance is good to know.

FNL now so time to go and do something useful for a couple of hours. As if I haven't been already.

Definitely preferred Kyle as host over Sonia. At least he's funny and added flavour to the show, unlike the mechanical robot Sonia. Kyle was such a lazy fuck taking so many sickies as host though 🤣 but he's a loveable arsehole imo.

None of them beat Gretel the GOAT as host though of course.

FNL and Fitzy's & Mike's commentary had me in tears of laughter, as someone who enjoys dark and offensive humour. Millennials don't see the humour in it like us Zoomers do I guess, probably a generational thing.

FNL and Fitzy’s comments are difficult to stomach at the best of times, but it’s really something listening to his “jokes” about HMs like Rima, Travis and Bianca that just wouldn’t be anywhere near tolerated today. (“Rima looks like she’s just come out of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.”) It’s awful that this sort of stuff was “accepted” back then.
The noughties weren't the seventies. Many of us here called that stuff out in real time.

I was there. I’m well aware. Doesn’t chance the fact that gender equality, using the word “gay” for something negative, and showcasing people who were different was still widely “accepted” and actually not called out as much as you think back then. At least not in Australia, and not within mainstream media. Our media’s fascination with a person like Miriam a few years earlier is another classic example of this. It wasn’t until the 2010s when there was a genuine shift in our society and culture overall. Looking back at that time 20 years later doesn’t make it any easier. That is all that was being suggested…

This first eviction was an actual mess of a show. Between the energy being as flat as a hunch of adults at a Wiggles show, BB getting returning housemate names wrong, it’s just so bloody awkward to watch.
