In regards to Hallie probably being more exposed to more educated people, I think this is a good chance for her to get some practise with people who may be uneducated. Her coming across them is inevitable in her future, I think itās great that at 18 sheās put herself in an environment where she will most definitely be somewhat out of her comfort zone, talking to people who arenāt as educated as others.I didnāt really see Hallie being annoyed with it but more just needing to get different perspectives. I think in general sheās more used to having discussions with people who at least have a base understanding that trans-woman are women and are able to approach her with questions that are more insightful and less crude, and/or insensitive sounding. I think Farida would have been better off asking another HM how to approach the question first so that she could approach her questions in a more sensitive manner.
Iām also someone who generally doesnāt mind questions but at the end of the day answering the same types of questions over and over again does get annoying and some times Iām just not in the mood for my sexuality to become a topic of conversation. At the end of the day itās 2023 and not only is it not uncommon to know someone in the LGBTQI+ community we have a wealth of information at our finger tips. If you want to know something you can be informed.
Like I said above I think Farida would have been better off talking to Hallie by starting with a more informed base. Just because you can ask her yourself doesnāt necessarily mean you should.
And what a great opportunity for her to not only educate people but also to learn how to deal with the situation mentally strong. A right of passage for a lot of LGBT people. And in a time of there being generally more acceptance, what better time for her to educate not only housemates, but also any ignorant or uneducated viewers who may be shown a new perspective.
As for the āquestionsā topic, I completely get being sometimes over the questions. It does almost make you feel pigeonholed. But, in other ways I try to look at other people (mostly straight men) who ask questions and do come across as ignorant, are only just trying to educate themselves. And for those who do not have any education or exposure at all, are bound to say something or ask something a bit questionable.
But that is to be expected, and the fact that they are going out of their way to ask me a question shows their first steps towards being educational and more tolerable. if they werenāt in some way open minded they wouldnāt be approaching me with a question. So as frustrating as it is I do try my best to look at the positives that do come from my opportunity to speak out.
Iām going to make an assumption that Farida has had minimal exposure to LGBT (maybe specifically trans) people so she is likely to be unaware that what she may say is actually offensive. The onus then lies upon the educated ones to inform her. Uneducated people will not always be aware of their unintended bigotry, unless they either are informed by someone else or themselves.
But we also cannot expect people to go out of their way for every single group and topic in the world. Yes I do agree there are respires out there to educate people l, but people will not necessarily go out of their way to learn something that doesnāt impact them. So having people ask me questions is something I try my best to see the positive side of it. And I look at Farida wanting to be educated as a good trait of hers. Iām warming to her.
As for Hallie, I just didnāt like that she essentially bitched about Farida to everyone else and down played it when speaking to her. Olivia did the same thing with the Salmon. Farida seems to be someone who may be unaware of things she does potentially making other people feel uncomfortable. I have a feeling she will be nominated.
