BBUK returns Sun 8 Oct 2023 (and Celeb BB back in 2024)

I didn’t really see Hallie being annoyed with it but more just needing to get different perspectives. I think in general she’s more used to having discussions with people who at least have a base understanding that trans-woman are women and are able to approach her with questions that are more insightful and less crude, and/or insensitive sounding. I think Farida would have been better off asking another HM how to approach the question first so that she could approach her questions in a more sensitive manner.

I’m also someone who generally doesn’t mind questions but at the end of the day answering the same types of questions over and over again does get annoying and some times I’m just not in the mood for my sexuality to become a topic of conversation. At the end of the day it’s 2023 and not only is it not uncommon to know someone in the LGBTQI+ community we have a wealth of information at our finger tips. If you want to know something you can be informed.

Like I said above I think Farida would have been better off talking to Hallie by starting with a more informed base. Just because you can ask her yourself doesn’t necessarily mean you should.
In regards to Hallie probably being more exposed to more educated people, I think this is a good chance for her to get some practise with people who may be uneducated. Her coming across them is inevitable in her future, I think it’s great that at 18 she’s put herself in an environment where she will most definitely be somewhat out of her comfort zone, talking to people who aren’t as educated as others.

And what a great opportunity for her to not only educate people but also to learn how to deal with the situation mentally strong. A right of passage for a lot of LGBT people. And in a time of there being generally more acceptance, what better time for her to educate not only housemates, but also any ignorant or uneducated viewers who may be shown a new perspective.

As for the “questions” topic, I completely get being sometimes over the questions. It does almost make you feel pigeonholed. But, in other ways I try to look at other people (mostly straight men) who ask questions and do come across as ignorant, are only just trying to educate themselves. And for those who do not have any education or exposure at all, are bound to say something or ask something a bit questionable.

But that is to be expected, and the fact that they are going out of their way to ask me a question shows their first steps towards being educational and more tolerable. if they weren’t in some way open minded they wouldn’t be approaching me with a question. So as frustrating as it is I do try my best to look at the positives that do come from my opportunity to speak out.

I’m going to make an assumption that Farida has had minimal exposure to LGBT (maybe specifically trans) people so she is likely to be unaware that what she may say is actually offensive. The onus then lies upon the educated ones to inform her. Uneducated people will not always be aware of their unintended bigotry, unless they either are informed by someone else or themselves.

But we also cannot expect people to go out of their way for every single group and topic in the world. Yes I do agree there are respires out there to educate people l, but people will not necessarily go out of their way to learn something that doesn’t impact them. So having people ask me questions is something I try my best to see the positive side of it. And I look at Farida wanting to be educated as a good trait of hers. I’m warming to her.

As for Hallie, I just didn’t like that she essentially bitched about Farida to everyone else and down played it when speaking to her. Olivia did the same thing with the Salmon. Farida seems to be someone who may be unaware of things she does potentially making other people feel uncomfortable. I have a feeling she will be nominated.

I don’t disagree on most of what you’re saying here… Where we disagree on was her reaction/response. I don’t see her talking to other HM’s about it as “bitching” or negative. For one if she really had an issue with Farida she wouldn’t have answered her questions and two I think it’s totally normal to look to others for perspective. I didn’t see anything that Hallie said in those conversations that was bitchy or even really complaining.

To me she was painting Farida in a negative light. It came across to me like she was making sound worse than what it actually was. But what 18 year old doesn’t I guess. I didn’t like that Olivia also told everyone else about the salmon situation before she spoke to Ferida (which she hasn’t even done). I think Ferida is coping more than she deserves tbh.

As much as people like to say they don’t like talking about people it’s a perfectly normal thing that we ALL do. I think she approached the conversation in a way where people could form their own opinions and not in a way that told others they should view Fardia negatively.

As for going to Farida about it before talking with anyone else I think that would have made it seem like Farida did something wrong which is not the impression I got.

As for Olivia will she did paint Farida in a negative light, it wasn’t overt and most people agreed they would have also been annoyed. It was a first time occurrence and approaching her about it probably would have made it a bigger issue than it needed to be. If it happened more than once that’s when I’d make it a “let’s talk” type of issue.

To be honest I probably talk too much about people than I’d like to admit. And yeah these girls are young and IMO aren’t totally mature. I personally interpreted it as bitching, she didn’t appear like her intentions were to gain other perspectives, I think she just genuinely wanted to talk about Firida to other people. Hallie is just not a housemate I’m warming too atm. She’s coming across as a bit of a pick me girl.

We will have to agree to disagree on this. For me Hallie is definitely someone I’m warming to and feel the complete opposite towards Fardia. Don’t hate her by any means but definitely see her being an easy target and don’t think she’d leave a big hole in the group if she left. I also see why she’s a bit of an outsider. Kerry being the next closest in age to her is doing a much better job integrating herself. She’s not really doing anything wrong per se it’s more just the cards she’s been dealt.

Aw lol I feel Farida has strong potential to be a great housemate because of everyone getting annoyed by her. And it’s also funnier that she isn’t really aware of it.

Kerry is someone I like also. I’m warming to Matty and Chanelle as well. Chanelle specifically is someone I find to have unintentionally funny moments.

I do not like Jenkin. He just feels like this seasons Kieran type figure of casting. Similar to what’s his name? pie face Jack from BB2015.

First dud episode of the series - the task was just incredibly boring and without purpose. As viewers we've no idea exactly what they're supposed to be doing. BB giving out the initial "Big wig" roles a huge mistake as letting HMs pick themselves would have caused friction as we saw later as Kerry and Farida are clearly fighting to run the house.

Jordan providing a bit of humour in his fire warden role but otherwise the first miss of the series- but all series have dud episodes.

As a witness to my trans friends (who are all in their 30s and 40s) dealing with people, I've seen first hand how the repeated questions can really grate. Right now we're focused on one interaction on a TV show, but can you imagine regular questions about your existence on a scale of years and years... it can wear thin.

I am very cautious around saying things like "this is a great way for Hallie to educate people" because the onus isn't entirely on her to educate everyone. There is kind of this passivity in cishet people that they feel it's up to all trans people to carry this work. But some trans people just wanna live their own lives. Asking questions is part of learning but it does place emotional labour on the person being asked. You can also do a google search if you aren't in the Big Brother house.

And occasionally you come across people who just can't break their binary mindset (usually older people) so they just keep rephrasing the same questions, while not properly listening or considering the answer they get. These people are often lost cases.

This situation plays out in race all the time as well. Look at the Voice Referendum... the No side's slogan is literally "if you don't know, vote no". Completely putting the onus on indigenous Australians to educate them. If I was indigenous, I would be fucking pissed.

All said though, Hallie did say she was an open book. The initial question from Farida was very cringe, but that's more a generational difference on how people communicate. Likewise when Hallie was talking about the question later, that's a generational difference where young people flesh out conversations.

IDK while not the most eventful episode I wouldn’t say it’s a complete dud. For me a dud episode would be one that doesn’t do much to progress the storyline and I’d say tonight’s episode had a few decent enough story points that will be interesting to see unfold. The key point being the storm brewing between Farita/Kerry/the rest of the house. I’d also say that despite the fact that BB chose the “big wigs” it hasn’t spoiled the task and like this type of task should do its exposed some of what has been bubbling under the the surface in terms of house dynamics. I don’t feel like this episode was treading as much water as you think that it was… That said without the above mentioned plot point it probably would have been.

I agree that it shouldn’t just be up to Hallie, hence why I said educated people rather than just trans people. Even those who are not trans have the ability to call out ignorance.

I meant this is a good experience for Hallie in terms of her being able to adjust to people whom may not be educated. She’s only just 18, presumably she has not long been out of school, which are formative years that are quintessential for personal growth.

Ignorance and bigotry exist, we cannot pretend it doesn’t so those of us who are part of the LGBT community know not only how to deal with head on, educate people and inform others as well. And hopefully as the world goes on allies will assist in the educating part and people will be more willing to make use of resources. That way, minority groups can move closer to not baring the sole responsibility.

I enjoyed the episode personally. Yes the task was gimmicky but it was also fun, and wasn’t pointless. Albeit children presenting, it still exposed personality’s and even gave us a glimpse of how these people respond to social class and rank.

I don’t mind that BB chose the big wigs, it allowed someone like Yinran to be in charge whereas, if the housemates chose I could just see the dominating personalities end up in the position. Not to mention the three did good at allocating IMO. The cracks between Farida and Kerry were really fun, and I’m stating to really like Jordan almost in a reggie sort of way.

I want to go back to the point I made earlier about Farida needing some background education prior to approaching Hallie. As a 50 year old Muslim woman I would think she’d understand that there are certain topics that require a bit more tact. She might not have Google in the house but she did have 14 other HM’s she could have vetted the questions to or looked to for answers. I think the fact that Hallie was able to sit through it and still have a conversation with her says a lot about how mature she is in that regard. On the other hand this coupled with her reactions to the task in tonight’s episode really goes to show that with age does not come wisdom.

That said I do see your earlier point about how she’d lead to conflict. She’s definitely worth keeping for now.

I feel the same way about Jenkin, to me he is just one big walking stereotype
