BBUK returns Sun 8 Oct 2023 (and Celeb BB back in 2024)

The one good thing about the 2017 series is that the diary room was so awful that nothing will ever be worse.

I think I’d prefer it without the logo - it doesn’t look good folded in the middle. It’s not what I thought it was going to be at all. I don’t hate it but I was definitely underwhelmed when I saw it. I do dislike how big the room seems - I do like it when the diary room seems more compact and intimate. This is quite clinical and cold (which is the BB Australia influence).

IDK like the current era of BBAU this is all starting to feel like a little more style than substance. Let’s hope the rest of the series isn’t.

Of course we aren’t in the early days of reality TV so some visual appeal is warranted but I think it would have been better to go back to basics in terms of theming. Paying homage to the original series but in an updated manner would have gone a long way in terms of appeasing fans AND pleasing new viewers.

I think the BB19 house was stripped back yet still with the bells and whistles that we are accustomed to modern BB, that would have been a good look for a rebooted series.

I do think the house will win alot of people over then the big question is casting.

The live feed situation has turned an easy win into an obvious loss, and though I'm looking forward to the launch show I'm dreading the highlights as I just know I'll find Marcus Bentley as big a barrier to enjoying them as I did on C5 - and from all his promo work this week it seems very unlikely he's toning his style down.

From what I've seen of AJ & Will this week considering they're on site every day for the live aftershow they probably should be linking the highlights too. Would immediately make the show feel different, and producers really needed to realise that is what they needed to do, even if they'd probably get more scrutiny for that than for stepping into the shows of Davina and Emma.

All around literally everything from BB19 should have been held over for a revived series.

ETA: Just expanding on the above comment. So much of what they did in BB19 was wasted as unlike BB11 the incentive to prove that there was still life in the format just wasn’t necessary. The roadmap for the show moving forward was obvious with or without a proof of concept.

As someone who has never watched a UK series. What's the format? Is it 6 nights a week? Live streams etc?
How easy is it to watch or will it be a commitment?

Highly recommend checking it out if you’re longing for something that more closely resembles the original BBAU format.

6 nights/week with a spin-off chat show every night following the highlights (usually a miss unless there’s something major or post-eviction). Live feed will follow for 2 hours post spin-off. The entire series is 6 weeks which makes it fairly easy to stick with over the course of the series. The biggest and most notable difference between BBAU and BBUK is the demographics… BBUK is more adult.

Is it a requirement under new rights deals that you literally have to plaster the logo everywhere? Eye in the backyard, eye as the chair… one of the things I hate about the 7 series.

Maybe we can give it a pass this time around. First season on a new network, making a comeback after several years and all that. Go heavy on the branding to make your mark and then hopefully they will lighten up next time. Possibly wishful thinking.

Quite a bit of info in that Guardian article. I do think one bedroom is a mistake, especially if they overfill it with housemates (been reports of 16 for just a 6 week series - 10 would have been sufficient, 12 at a push).

Impressive and to be honest I actually don’t mind it. It’s not my favourite house but I’ll respect the fact that they did something completely different with it. There’s definitely something very BBAU about it.
Yeah but it’s also more… real?
7 have focused on shiny plastic looking walls and led strip lighting everywhere. This still looks like a house? I respect the fact they have actually built a structure within to give it a pitched roof etc.

7 on the other hand had no roof and it’s just open with studio lighting.. no attempt to make it feel real.
