Exactly. 2014 felt more like a contractual obligation and they didn't really want it with it being pushed to after The Block and cut down so much. And yet somehow despite clearly having no interest in the show they paid up for a contract that locked it out of appearing on rival broadcasters for a further 5 years.100% agree. The last episode of LNF was extremely fun, almost felt like uncut. It was all so raw in these episodes, it all felt more natural. It is a real shame it was short lived and didn't return for the next season. There was a lot with 2013 that could have helped the show progress in a positive direction, had nine taken the show seriously and given it the treatment it deserved.

A big mistake in my opinion. Had they given the show better treatment they could have a constantly performing show that could have potentially still been on air. Other than MAFS there's no other show Nine had for that length of time that was a success. Not the mention they would go on to eventually lose the voice. Further experimentation with new shows like the Hot plate and Reno Rumble in later years proved to either be one off success or nothing at all. They had a lot of potential to have something great but didn't take the risk that could well have paid off.Exactly. 2014 felt more like a contractual obligation and they didn't really want it with it being pushed to after The Block and cut down so much. 25:04. Also on Ben and his meet with Bert and Patti, I would love to know the logistics of this. I understand he was affiliated with Channel 9 but was he actively on television at the time? I was very young when he was on TV still so BB was the first I had heard of him as I grew up watching a lot of Foxtel over FTA. I would love to know how long in advance this was planned and how it came about. I wonder if production knew and expected Ben to last to his birthday and had this arranged very early, or if it was planned a bit last minute.
I am also curious as to why the Garden of Eden wasn't used until this point in the series. Other than this instance the area was only used for Nathan getting to bring in Mikkayla and Ben, and also the pent-ultimate day in the house (someone remind me if it was used before). Was the area even in existence until this point? The intruders as we know were not intended to initially join the show until the series extension, so I wonder why the area wasn't used.

Obviously there were some casual viewers because this forum would not have made an unforgettable guy as the winner. The only thing I can remember him doing is posing like a roast chicken. That should not be a winner move not even on a dud season.
Hmmm yes a very good point. He had a completely invisible edit for ages and I actually forgot he even existed even when discussing the season, so yes a few people outside of the forum were possibly watching.

I remember that too. He was shown almost never apart from the frozen chicken for about the first 5 or so weeks. Then during the servants and workers task he was finally shown being snarky towards Travis in the task, and from there he suddenly became a large a character and even scored the highest votes to save in his inaugural nomination. In all honesty in some ways the more I think about it, I am suddenly excited to watch 2014. I’m sure I’ll find some good parts about it.

I remember the big brother Facebook page shared a graphic with all the HMs but they seemingly forgot to include Ryan at all. How he won remains a mystery, but just like in 08 a crappy winner for a crappy season.
Hmm what do I remember about 2014? Clawson I guess. That guy being referred to as “that guy”. Skye and Penny’s T&A. That might be it?

I remember a lot of the beginning. Skye's crush on Jake, his showmance with Lisa. Lisa's beef with David, Gemma's tantrum (which I remember being acted?), Travis and Aisha, Leo and Skye, Sandra being really insecure in the house and Skye being looked at as stupid. I remember liking Cat a lot in the beginning as well. The last thing I remember watching of the series before switching off was an argument between Aisha and Lawson and she called him a weak human. Everything else I either didn't watch or don't remember.I remember the big brother Facebook page shared a graphic with all the HMs but they seemingly forgot to include Ryan at all. I also remember Ryan and Skye having a bit of a tiff or heated argument that was like the A-plot of one particular daily show towards the end which was a bit out of the blue for him getting a confrontational edit.
oh and David and the boys vs Priya 'DEFENCE DEFENCE' discussion that was a scene and a half of one episode's plot.

I'll have to look some dates up I'm a little fuzzy on it myself, but from what I recall Good Morning Australia had ended around 2006 or 2007 (replaced by 9am with David and Kim on TEN for a couple years IIRC) and he was hosting Family Feud on channel 9 (before much later TEN revived it with Grant Denyer). Also on Ben and his meet with Bert and Patti, I would love to know the logistics of this. I don't think he'd been on TV since around 2008-2010 ish (did he partly host the Logies in 2010? one of those I seem to remember he did). Anyways I'll look it up.

I do remember that Skye and Ryan fight. I remember him disliking her because she was "immature". I remember also when the four intruders were entering the week Ryan was HoH, I was worried that four housemates were being evicted and swapped with the intruders and I feared that Skye would be evicted by Ryan. Of course this was just a gimmick where the housemates were just swapped into the sanctuary, but my teenage brain was hormonal.I also remember Ryan and Skye having a bit of a tiff or heated argument that was like the A-plot of one particular daily show towards the end which was a bit out of the blue for him getting a confrontational edit.

I don't remember much at all with Priya honestly. She had a friendship with Skye didn't she? I don't recall anything else.

yeah Wikipedia says GMA ended at the end of 2005 (had run since 1992 on TEN) and Bert went back to Channel Nine, hosting Family Feud in 2006-07 and 20 To 01 from 2006-2011. He also as I thought Hosted the 2010 Logies. and appeared as Celebrity Contestant on Million Dollar Wheel of Fortune (2008) & Millionaire Hot Seat (2012). I think he had a part of Celebrity Big Brother in 2002 as well.

I suppose him being associated with the network made it easier to make it happen, I don't think it was any sense an obligatory thing, I think when Bert spoke of Big Brother he was genuine with his comments. But this is a huge example of production favouritism. I understand that it wasn't a farfetched idea to put to practise, but I seriously doubt if there were to be a housemate who loved the block that they'd bring in Scott Cam to meet them.yeah Wikipedia says GMA ended at the end of 2005 (had run since 1992 on TEN) and Bert went back to Channel Nine, hosting Family Feud in 2006-07 and 20 To 01 from 2006-2011. Although, I may take that back. They probably would have for the cross promotion. I just can't picture a housemate who would have been so lucky to enjoy such treatment.

On a somewhat related note I also remember the literal last minute switch before premiere in 2010 by Seven to replace Matthew Newton as host of the rebooted X Factor when he had his issues with alcohol and DV rear up again. Iirc he'd done one promo for it before they replaced him with Luke Jacobz and I think they cut him out of the audition episodes and just had Jacobz narrate over the top of it until the live shows.

Also with it being Federal Election Season, 2013 was the first series where they needed to get the Housemates to vote whilst it was running (2001, 2004 and 2007 were all held outside of the series runs). Didn't they get to see a campaign message from Kevin Rudd (and maybe Tony Abbott too?) or something?

Yes they did. Kevin Rudd spoke of marriage equality which made Tully and Ben emotional. And during Tony Abbott’s a lot of the housemates laughed, his featured his two daughters. They also saw Clive Palmer and the greens representative.
This episode was the first time I had any exposure to politics. I didn’t know what liberal labour was and I had no idea what the voting system was. It was the first time I had ever seen voting booths and the papers as well.

I watched most of 2014, 3 years ago on YouTube. The episodes were sporadic hence why I didn’t end up finishing the series. But honestly, it was pretty decent on a binge. It’s one of those series in which at the time it was a horrid mess. Considering channel 9 and there arrangements. Overall, it was decent and am too kind of intrigued how my opinions will differ when I eventually get there.
False. Even on my lockdown rewatch binge, the flaws were just evident as before. It’s only “decent” when you completely remove it from any sort of Big Brother context and/or compare it to the Seven iteration. If anything, it was an indirect precursor to what we were about to receive in 2020 in terms of lack of footage from entire days in the house and manipulated edits.I watched most of 2014, 3 years ago on YouTube. Other than that, did it have potential? Absolutely! But it was not a decent season.

I've tried to watch it twice before since it aired. Have never made it past week 3. You are probably right.False. Even on my lockdown rewatch binge, the flaws were just evident as before. Weeks 9 and 10 are a bit iffy to watch, with the intruder live specials and evictions/nominations moving to wednesday/thursdays as well as the cancellation of confidential next week, there is a huge decrease in house content. A lot of the focus is on the live shows and intruders so there isn't any major storylines occurring.
Also, does anyone here remember the rumour about Justynn being kicked out of the house after having an altercation with Ed?

Watching all of 2014 has stopped me from watching any of the channel seven era. The only one I may watch is this next one, mostly as I am curious to see Reggie and Tim interact.False.
