Exactly. 2014 felt more like a contractual obligation and they didn't really want it with it being pushed to after The Block and cut down so much. And yet somehow despite clearly having no interest in the show they paid up for a contract that locked it out of appearing on rival broadcasters for a further 5 years.
A big mistake in my opinion. Had they given the show better treatment they could have a constantly performing show that could have potentially still been on air. Other than MAFS there's no other show Nine had for that length of time that was a success. Not the mention they would go on to eventually lose the voice. Further experimentation with new shows like the Hot plate and Reno Rumble in later years proved to either be one off success or nothing at all. They had a lot of potential to have something great but didn't take the risk that could well have paid off.
I remember a lot of the beginning. Skye's crush on Jake, his showmance with Lisa. Lisa's beef with David, Gemma's tantrum (which I remember being acted?), Travis and Aisha, Leo and Skye, Sandra being really insecure in the house and Skye being looked at as stupid. I remember liking Cat a lot in the beginning as well. The last thing I remember watching of the series before switching off was an argument between Aisha and Lawson and she called him a weak human. Everything else I either didn't watch or don't remember.
I'll have to look some dates up I'm a little fuzzy on it myself, but from what I recall Good Morning Australia had ended around 2006 or 2007 (replaced by 9am with David and Kim on TEN for a couple years IIRC) and he was hosting Family Feud on channel 9 (before much later TEN revived it with Grant Denyer).
I do remember that Skye and Ryan fight. I remember him disliking her because she was "immature". I remember also when the four intruders were entering the week Ryan was HoH, I was worried that four housemates were being evicted and swapped with the intruders and I feared that Skye would be evicted by Ryan. Of course this was just a gimmick where the housemates were just swapped into the sanctuary, but my teenage brain was hormonal.
I suppose him being associated with the network made it easier to make it happen, I don't think it was any sense an obligatory thing, I think when Bert spoke of Big Brother he was genuine with his comments. But this is a huge example of production favouritism. I understand that it wasn't a farfetched idea to put to practise, but I seriously doubt if there were to be a housemate who loved the block that they'd bring in Scott Cam to meet them.
False. Even on my lockdown rewatch binge, the flaws were just evident as before. It’s only “decent” when you completely remove it from any sort of Big Brother context and/or compare it to the Seven iteration. If anything, it was an indirect precursor to what we were about to receive in 2020 in terms of lack of footage from entire days in the house and manipulated edits.
I've tried to watch it twice before since it aired. Have never made it past week 3. You are probably right.
Watching all of 2014 has stopped me from watching any of the channel seven era. The only one I may watch is this next one, mostly as I am curious to see Reggie and Tim interact.
