I had to ask Jeeves about both those things.
What's it counting down to? Midnight? Shouldn't it be counting down to the launch show (AEST)?
Or even the evening of the taping. After all, that is the main event, right? 
I'll avoid entering into any debate regarding unimportant localities in deficient time zones, at leastOr even the evening of the taping. After all, that is the main event, right?

God damnit. I want to go to the launch but the rest of my real life friends and boyfriend aren't the same calibre of fans as I am.
Seriously contemplating ditching them all and going solo. Make new friends once I'm there haha.
The VIP tix are all out. The $40 goldies are still there for the moment.

I find this all so strange. They never release when the finale is before the show starts to keep the housemates guessing. Why now? Is it legit that it is 80 days?
@Katy Purry Being so late in the season, there's only so many days available before the Finale would be bumped into the 'non-ratings' season of television in December - the previously standard 86+ day season wasn't going to happen.
But Big Brother didn't actually 'release' the date. They just decided to partner up with a dodgy and unfinished looking audience ticketing provider which had all the details just there. The rest is history.
