13th Place - 702,000 - October 27th
STILL 13th Place - 784,000 Timeshifted
14th Place - 671,000 - November 3rd
17th Place - 636,000 - November 10th

Its slipping lower each week and STILL the 'spin' of how well BB is doing, continues :-).

Can someone post the URL of where to find the LATEST timeshifted viewing figures, please?
The 3rd November isnt on the tvtonight.com.au site yet, or wasnt 2 minutes ago, so presumably someone is getting the figures from somewhere else? It only had the figures up to November 2nd.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics
"Lies, damned lies, and statistics" is a phrase describing the persuasive power of numbers, particularly the use of statistics to bolster weak arguments. It is also sometimes colloquially used to doubt statistics used to prove an opponent's point.

The term was popularised in the United States by Mark Twain (among others), who attributed it to the 19th-century British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli (1804–1881): "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." However, the phrase is not found in any of Disraeli's works and the earliest known appearances were years after his death. Other coiners have therefore been proposed, and the phrase is often attributed to Twain himself.

I don't believe everything on Wikipedia, but this is a well know enough saying.

Why are you so negative in all your posts?

Why are you so negative in all your posts?

I am only negative in the ratings thread, where people try to make out that this years Big Brother is a complete and utter success.
Also negative about the shit editing this series, the way they chose most of the contestants and the reduced viewing hours. Apart from those, which I am sure a lot of other people also agree on, I am mostly POSITIVE.

I hope you didn't just join up to post that, now that the show is almost over. You might need to do more reading.
Do you work for Endemol or Channel 9?

Well I wouldn't go as far as to say people are trying to make out that it's a complete success, more that it's not as bad as some people (you included ;)) make it out to be when factoring in the demographics and whatnot.

Firstly, sorry about my error up there. Those figures are correct for November 3rd. I got them from mediaspy forums.

Who said its a complete and utter success? Find me saying that and I will concede. That is certainly not my opinion.

But let's be fair, what I did say was fact. Last night, BB was #1 in all 3 demos in its timeslot.
Over the whole prime time it came third to Big Bang on #1 and #2, (both Channel 9 shows which preceded it.)

I love how anyone who disagrees with you works for Nine or Endemol! get a new retort, it's getting stale.

What you state here, is also fact, yes.

35,000 less total people viewers than the previous week.
66,000 less total people viewers than a fortnight before.

I never denied this. Yes Ted, the total people numbers ARE down.

Does this mean it is a complete and utter success? No, never said it was!

Does this mean it is a complete and utter failure? According to David Knox earlier in the season, with lower total people but high demo ratings, the show can still make more money than it costs? Making a profit is not a complete and utter failure.

Will BB be back next year? It could be? Unless Nine think they have another format which could dominate the demos and bring in a profit in the late timeslot. If not, then I think it is in with a chance -- This is my opinion. You think differently, and that's ok. Neither of us actually work for Nine or Endemol, so we really know squat!

I love this quote and have used it on many occasions.

It's a bit rich coming from you though, I use the demos to show why the show is profitable (again, as I just said, not because I KNOW this, but because David Knox at TV Tonight, a man who knows this kind of stuff says a show with BB -type ratings can still be lucrative and profitable).

You use total people numbers (stats) to portray the message that the show isn't performing well.

Neither of us have all the facts, neither of us actually know what will happen. We are both interpreting the data through our own set of 'belief' systems I'm going to call it.

My 'belief' system, based on my own research is that the demos matter. Your 'belief' system, for whatever reason, tells you they don't and only TP numbers matter.

I would appreciate you not accusing me of lying (which I admit is done indirectly here, not specifically aimed at me), when we are both doing a very similar thing :)

The irony of your default retort @tedfthis .. "you must work for Nine or Enemol" is that IF we were indeed the programming decision makers, then it wouldn't matter at all what you thought. If we liked it and thought it was "a complete and utter success," it would be renewed. lol

I don't think anyone is saying the show is a huge success this year. I think we all know that the show is way down on its performance in 2012 and 2013, and Nine would have wanted the total viewer numbers to be higher than they are.

However, the point that is being made is that BB is still performing quite well demographically, and would be quite valuable to advertisers who are specifically interested in the audience in that age group. BB is also airing in a later timeslot this year, and the expectations for an 8:40 show are lower than those for a 7:30 show. When compared to other shows in the same timeslot, BB isn't doing too badly.

Also, David Knox, Editor of TV Tonight, and Steve Allen, Media buyer and ratings analyst, have both said that the show's strong demo performance give it a chance of renewal.

Whether it does get renewed will depend on many different factors, like cost of production and whether Nine have other shows that they think will do better. It's not as simple as looking at raw ratings data.

And before you ask, I don't work at Endemol or Channel Nine. Do you work at Channel Seven or a rival production company?

If you couldn't identify my comment as sarcasm, you are slipping.

Well I guess the real question is whether we even want Channel 9 to continue with BB? I mean with the demo's performing so well we could be looking at renewals, but imagine what the next season would be like after 2014. I watch many other versions and somehow this version is way too wishy washy. They don't have a solid idea and every week is another stunt, I mean TBH I wouldn't mind BB dying with Channel 9 because I feel like a bunch or monkeys could produce this show better. It would be great to find out the real reason behind why this season has been super stunt central..
